All UFA upgrade team:

Assuming Kerfoot is lost in the ED and Hyman/Andersen walk

Trade Engvall for anything

Sign:
Brandon Saad 4 year x 4.5 mill
Barclay Goodrow 2 year x 1.5 mill
Andrew Cogliano 2 year x 2 mill
Casey Cizikas 2 year x 2.1 mill
Zach Bogosian 1 year x 1.5 mill

With roughly 10k in cap space

Saad and Goodrow add more cup experience, Cizikas and Cogliano are local boys who bring experience and solid reliable defensive play. Same methodology as last offseason, but lets grab guys who still have time left on their biological clock.

Saad, Goodrow, and Cizikas will get more than that.

Cogliano is an interesting FA, but I think you've overpaid him. I think you can get him for less than a million per season. Most predictive models have him at getting close to league minimum.

Probably a lot more.

I would have liked Cogliano on a cheap contract, but Simmonds took his spot.

I think people are expecting a lot from the 75th and 80th leading scorers from the Swedish league.
That’s second line production from two guys who are known more for two-way play and who weren’t on the top two lines all year.
It’s not a leap to think they can be serviceable 2nd and 3rd line complementary players.
You don’t have to have hope. I like to.

So something that may actually happen.

Seattle sign Hyman in the window they're allowed to sign UFAs and forfeit selection. Zach , leaving already... atleast saves us from losing someone off the expansion list (Dermott/Holl/Kerfoot etc)

So guys that aren't good enough to play top line in Sweden are going to come make contributions in the NHL?

Heard it at beach Grove golf course just outside windsor ontario
Lots of HOCKEY PEOPLE Around windsor

Hyman's rights are worth a 5th so it is pretty much Rielly for Bertuzzi and #22 in a weak draft. No thanks but it shows that Leafs might be shopping Rielly.

On this board for some anybody and everybody can make the Leafs in the summer. Then when they hit the ice it is pretty clear most are garbage.

The value is bad but the situation makes it really bad. We shouldn't be trading a top 4 D for futures in this window unless we already have somebody pushing Rielly out the door.

If we think Sandin/Dermott is that guy this season our defense could be really ugly if Muzzin takes a step back.

Assuming you lose Holl in expansion that would leave:

Muzzin-Brodie
Dermott-Liljegren
Sandin-

With no depth to speak of. You absolutely need a plan to go hard after Oleksiak and make sure you bring Bogosian and some depth Dmen.

Muzzin-Brodie
Oleksiak-Liljegren
Sandin/Dermott-Bogosian
Sandin/Dermott-Hakanpaa /Nemeth/ Chara/ cheap big guy

-Even then you need Liljegren and Sandin to be ready and it puts a lot of pressure on the top pair.
