Many scouting services are high on the Leafs system. Are Sandin, Robertson and Liljegren not good anymore? Other players like Abramov, Niemela etc have taken steps.
Plus Anderson, Hallander, Holmberg, Abruzzese are all close.
Hirvonen, Kral and Malgin are all coming off strong years. Kokkonen has played well for a bunch of years against men.
There’s plenty of talent around.

Wow, the value Red Wings fans think Bertuzzi has is whacky, given he missed basically the entire season and is a year away from UFA as a middle six winger.

Yet, if a Leafs fan was to suggest we could trade top pairing d-man Morgan Rielly for a 1st round Pick, one of a teams top prospect, and another asset, we’d be called idiots who overrate our players.

Every fan base falls for the same trap. They expect multiple blue chip prospects for every player regardless of their contract/injury status.

I expect many Wings fans will be disappointed of he's eventually traded

Ya some crazy crazy overeating, like biggest package seen in the last 10 years. I think the Mantha trade has also caused them to think Yzerman can get overpayments

Don’t get the eager attitude for Bertuzzi. Coming off a serious injury/surgery with RFA arbitration 1 year from UFA.

A lot of red flags to gamble a top prospect/pick even if he checks the boxes.

Would be pumped to acquire him at a discount, but not at the expense of a first, Robertson or Sandin.

Rather deal less for a guy like Foegele.

I guess to be fair I'd rather we trade a 1st for a full season of a 25 year old like Bertuzzi who has put up multiple 40+ point seasons recently than trade a 1st for a dozen games of Foligno, a 33 year old who hasn't topped 35 points in the past 4 seasons. But unfortunately we've already traded away that pick, and now with so few picks in our system, we really shouldn't be traded away more.

Close to what?

Anderson could have taken a 4th line spot, but we signed a couple of 50 year olds to knock him into the AHL.
Close to contributing obviously.
But your point is fair, I’d like to see more opportunities for young players to get complementary roles.

Isn't Bertuzzi a UFA in one year?
Yes. So, I guess what we trade depends if we get him for 1 year or extended.

For 1 year, I would give up a B prospect (Abramov, Hallander, etc). For an extended Bertuzzi........it would likely have to be one of the best prospects.

Remember when Dubas said all prospects were on the table before the deadline? My guess is that he was "easing the blow" of a bigger name going for Bertuzzi before the injury stopped the idea of a trade. I have no evidence. Just reading between the lines.

IMO your not getting Bertuzzi for a B prospect when you can trade him at the deadline for way more. Look at what Josh Anderson went for last summer.

No decision on Rielly until August according to Pierre Lebrun.
That’s not the first time an insider reported an odd timeline for decision making on a Leaf player.
It gives the impression of inflexibility, which I don’t think is the case.

Ya I didn’t love the Foligno deal, but that doesn’t change what I’d give for Bertuzzi.
