Lol this is like people saying Bennett would return Engvall and that Kerfoot was too rich.

If you think a guy with better production than Kapanen (both expire as RFA's) will get less than half of Kap's return, keep dreaming. That's not even mentioning Bertuzzi's physical play that is on a completely different level.

You're dealing with Yzerman. Expect a deal based around Amirov or equivalent value. You're not getting him for spare parts when half the league will be in on him with a bid.

He hasn't played since his injury and is 1 year from UFA status.

Some other team can have him. Toronto does have the luck to take such a risk.

Amirov for 1 year of Bertuzzi. Fold the f***ing franchise if that deal happens.

You make the trade on condition of a multi-year contract and a clean bill of health.

If we're going for it, he's on the table. If we aren't, we should be dismantling the core. Amirov is useless right now. We have a few years with this core, and Amirov won't be ready in time to help.

Who is signing a 26 year old RFA with a proven track record to a one year deal? This isnt a Trouba or Werenski situation.

Obviously this would be contingent on a long-term, post-trade signing.

The same argument was used against Josh Anderson and his surgery. Look at his return and the fan consensus of the value at the time.

Friedman said this morning Leafs like Bertuzzi and were interested in him at the TDL but he was injured. Would have been nice to have that first to include in a deal for him this summer.

Wings also have some good young talent. I can see them as a good trade partner if you ignore that they are in the same division.

We have future 1sts, they traded one 1st round pick, people act like the cupboard is empty far from it.

They say it's empty because we've traded numerous firsts recently even if one was recovered

How does "Would have been nice to have that first to include in a deal for him this summer." turn into the cupboard is bare ?? The reason I said that is because next year's draft is stronger and I want to keep it.

this guy credible?

Hope it's true. It seems he's made his mind up and he's walking. He just isn't worth his rumoured ask. I see Hyman with his injuries not living up to anything North of 4million. Only rumours I've heard is Edmonton's interest in him. I'd give them the rights to Hyman and a guy like Engvall to get someone like Josh Archibald or Jujhar Khaira. Engvall would almost be enough to do it straight up, their desire to talk to Hyman might push that deal through. Not really interested in like a 6th round pick for his negotiating rights

Damn you Friedman...given me so much hope for Tyler Bertuzzi now
Guy definitely gives the lineup a way different look with how greasy he plays.

No idea but it does make sense if they believe they can't sign Hyman. When you only have 3 picks, why not get one for virtually free?
Does it really matter, boy wonder will waste the pick on another smurf…….

I wish nothing but the best for Hyman, I hope he gets a “Dubas like woodshed overpayment”, if any Leaf worked hard enough to get a overpayment it’s Zack.

Cizikas and Goodrow for depth on the third line with Bert and Foligno in the top 6. Gives you some very willing and capable grinders
Why would any quality grinder player come here when they know the team has no interest in playing the type of hockey you need to be successful in the playoffs, it’s not like the Leafs can outbid said players?

That looks good to me. I'm worried how Cizikas will age though.
He just turned 30 and can always do spot duty for the 4th line role worst caS scenario. I can't see him getting a raise on his current number either.

My concern is whether he could actually run with a third line role every day.

We need 3 or 4 guys like that.
Don't all need to be top 6 caliber. Trade for Bertuzzi (Liljegren + Kerfoot maybe, as someone else suggested...we lose Kerfoot anyways to Seattle otherwise, so might as well get value there), re-sign Foligno at a reasonable number. Trade Dermott or Holl for Foegle (whoever is left after Seattle picks one, since we moved Kerfoot in the Bertuzzi deal). Get a guy like Josh Archibald in a deal revolving around Hyman's right, since they want him the most it seems...and suddenly we're not that bad off.

Some grinders would want to come here for a chance to play with guys like Matthews, Tavares,Marner, and Nylander. Others like the poster mentioned (Cizikas & Goodrow) could want to come because it's a competitive team and they're both from Toronto.
