What are you giving up to get Bertuzzi and Foegele?

Not really sure. Value is tough to determine for a number of reasons. But I know for a fact we have the assets to get both. Neither player is a superstar or an All-Star calibre player, so it's not like we're going to be emptying the cupboard.

For Foegele...canes fans were insisting on either a pick or a defenseman of similar value. Maybe Dermott for Foegle 1 for 1?

For Bertuzzi it has to be a Player/Prospect + a Pick I'm assuming. Idk who that Prospect or player should be

Canes are considering not qualifying Foegele or leaving him exposed in the expansion draft.

Coincidence the two biggest teams Habs took out finished bottom 3 in playoff powerplay %? I think not. Leafs third last. Vegas dead last.

If Hall is interested, have to do due diligence to see if something can work. Hall and Matthews half wall is deadly.

Add all the grit you want. If we don't fix the PP it's another first round exit next season. Opponent will be a cup contender. If our powerplay can't even beat the Habs, it has no chance against anyone else.

What Leafs do to address the open #3RHD spot will tell me what they think of Lily. If they think he can take Bogo's spot, they won't do much.
I think it's gonna be more complicated than that. I fully believe Liljigren is an NHL caliber player right now, but how does he fit with what we have? He's not a big, heavy PK type of Dman which is a role our defense is missing. Without Bogo we really only have Muzzin who's good on the PK, Holl is ok and then a few guys (Rielly/Brodie/Dermott) who can PK if you need them to but aren't strong at it.

If Kerfoot goes in expansion and all the signed Dman come back we really need a heavy PK presence back there in that spot (eg. Bogo) - If Dermott goes I see us pursuing a Bogisian type of Dman for the left side which creates nice spot for Lily to step into. I see him best suited to filling the same role as Dermott - good ES defender and a guy who can skate and move the puck to help balance a pair with a big/physical PK guy. Longterm I like the potential to develop into a Brodie type of player, a quality top 4 two-way guy who's strength is at ES, but capable as a 2nd PP and 2nd PK unit guy if needed.

I think it's time to let the kids play and save some cap.
Trade Rielly for a top LW.
Trade Holl

Muzz Brodie
Sandin Savard (FA)
Dermott Liligren

What is Savard or Hamilton going to get contract wise?

Oleksiak would be a good partner for Lily but that would put Sandin and Dermy out of the picture on the LHS. Guess we gotta wait for the dominos to fall to see who our top 6 dmen are.

That would be suicide for Dubas as GM. Hamilton will be looking for 7.5-8.5m.

The Flyers potentially moving Voracek to Seattle is interesting. It would open up quite a bit of cap space to add someone and they have several pieces we would find intriguing.

I'd like to dump Holl and go after Larsson or Savard, or Gund ...depending on which, Lily gets a spot, or not
Lily should start on bottom pair (ideally with Olesiak as his partner ...Savard/Gund would be Bogo replacements, Larsson is a Holl upgrade

Yeah, I see Hall as about as likely as Pietrangelo was last year. Leafs will be "involved" until FA and then he'll sign with the Bruins/Oilers. Bertuzzi is an interesting player but he is 1 year from UFA eligibility and could get expensive fast. Not to mention the probable acquisition cost. I personally would much rather give him an RNH Esque contract than invest the same in an objectively much less talented player in Hyman, but both would probably be anchors eventually.

It's interesting that despite Liljegren being the objectively better skater, Sandin has looked way more effective on the breakout/rush to me at the NHL level. Once/if the composure and confidence come for Lily, I really think we have a nice piece for the top 4. Perhaps having good skaters like Brodie, Liljegren and Dermott on the back-end enables us to move on from Rielly, but an injury to Brodie or youthful stumbles from Liljegren/Dermott could put the defense in a tough spot.

Personally, I don't see the point in Savard, give me Bogo for half the price if we want depth.

I don't think dumping Holl is the answer. He's a borderline number 4 D-man who can be a good piece to keep around. I think we need another bonadife RHD who can play up and down. Keeping cost under consideration, one guy who I think would be a great fit is Travis Hamonic - he had a nice little under the radar season with Vancouver and is open to more destinations as per Elliot this time around versus before when family issues had him zeroed in on Western Canada.

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Hamonic

OK - Here is my trade Rielly and play the kids.

Trade Rielly + whatever for one M. Tkachuk, JT Miller or F. Forsburg
Sign - T Tatar

I could see:

Tkachuk Matthews Nylander
Tatar JT Marner
Mik Czikas Simmonds
Brooks Engvall Spezza

Muzz Holl
Sandin Brodie
Dermott Liligren

Campbell
Cheap Back up

Cap would likely work

Taylor Hall is the last player this team needs, but given this management's fascination with skilled forwards who for a lack of better word, are soft, I can absolutely see us signing him.

We need some top 6 grit, an upgrade on Hyman, not a player like Taylor Hall.

The problem is they need some legitimate top six "grit" -- Everyone they slotted in on the first two lines weren't legitimate top six forwards. At least with Taylor Hall you know he's a legit top six forward.

Uhh... Holl makes 2 million dollars and plays 20 minutes per night. We have no one to replace him. You absolutely have to protect Holl.

would rather have Oleksiak depending on dollars.

Lily hasn't proven he is a top 6 dman let alone a top 4. If Yzerman does not hang up, I make that deal and run.
Everything suggests that he's trending that way though which is why I said future top 4 d-man. Take any comparable for any age at the AHL level and his limited time 5 on 5 this year at the NHL level and the results are very positive.

Our d-core is getting older and we've already put in 4 years of development with Liljegren and 3 with Sandin. We'll need them to take the next step if this team wants to stay competitive moving forward. They'll be cheap for a few more years and hopefully productive.

If we absolutely have to include d-prospect I'd be more inclined to add somebody like Niemela who's at least 3 years away and fits Detroits timeline better.

That said I still don't think Bertuzzi is a great fit considering what he'll make in arbitration and the price Yzerman is likely asking.

I still think one of the big 3 has to go. Probably Marner. Cant win with 11 million each for 3 players. If the cap went up like it was supposed to then maybe. But not now
