I think a smart bargain bin buy in UFA would be Tatar honestly. Has good play driving underlyings and can play with either of the top two lines. Given he was a healthy scratch by MTL, his value has taken a significant hit - perhaps the Leafs can convince him to take a 1 year 3M type deal trying to up his value with a big year.

I wouldn't be satisfied if hes the only one, but I think he would be an interesting buy-low option that goes beyond the league minimum reclamation projects (like Vesey).

Very far fetched idea and is reliant on the Eichel and Sabres relationship being somewhat salvageable. But would something around Marner for the 1st overall pick be feasible?
Rationale for Buffalo: trying to salvage Eichel relationship by adding a premiere playmaker to his wing and Owen Power seems to be making it obvious he does not want to be drafted by Buffalo.
Rationale for Toronto: Getting Owen Power should add a huge building block on the backend and freeing up Marner’s money allows us to add the necessary pieces around the core forwards to be more competitive in the playoffs.
Other pieces can be added to balance the cap and value where needed.

Taylor Hall is the last player this team needs, but given this management's fascination with skilled forwards who for a lack of better word, are soft, I can absolutely see us signing him.

We need some top 6 grit, an upgrade on Hyman, not a player like Taylor Hall.
Hall had more fights than everyone on our team not named Foligno this past playoffs haha but yes I totally get your point. However if they're looking at Hall for 5-6mil, or Hyman at 5-6mil...it's a pretty easy choice for me tbh. You can always fill out spots with guys like Kuraly, Ritchie etc for cheap to add to the toughness. Hyman isn't really tough tbh, he's just a puck hound. We've considered him tough just because we're so soft typically. I don't think we go for Hall, and I don't think he's at all needed. But I'd understand the angle as we have guys like Robertson, Brooks, Anderson,Spezza, Simmonds who could all fill out spots in the bottom 6 for cheap. Not the way I'd go, but wouldn't be shocked

Oh my god Tyler Bertuzzi would be amazing. I think I mentioned him numerous times back before around the trade deadline as a guy I wish the leafs would target

Get er done Dubas

Bertuzzi for Lilly plus mikheyev?
Not giving up Liljegren in that.

We have to be careful with what we give up for Bertuzzi. He's in a similar situation as Folingo in the sense that he's playing an elevated role, in elevated minutes on a bad team with 60% offensive zone starts and primary PP minutes.

If he comes cheap go for it, but if it is going to cost a future top 4 D-man I'd rathet go after Foegele or a cheap FA option.

Lily hasn't proven he is a top 6 dman let alone a top 4. If Yzerman does not hang up, I make that deal and run.

If you can trade for Bertuzzi and Foegle...just re-sign Foligno and add a 4th line player off the UFA list. And then focus on the defense.

Bertuzzi - Mathews - Marner
Foegle - Tavares - Nylander
Foligno - ?? - Mikheyev/Robertson
Sorenson - Spezza - Simmonds

What are you giving up to get Bertuzzi and Foegele?

Friedman said this morning Leafs like Bertuzzi and were interested in him at the TDL but he was injured. Would have been nice to have that first to include in a deal for him this summer.

Wings also have some good young talent. I can see them as a good trade partner if you ignore that they are in the same division.
How ironic would it be for Stevie Y to school Shanahan’s bbf in a trade, that’d be icing on the cake for sure.

Agreed, and I'm very much a fan of Lily - Bertuzzi is just such a good fit and the reality for young Dman is, not only are there fewer spots for them but the fit is often harder to find. It's very possible he will need to move on to another team to establish himself and develop at the NHL level. That's not a knock on Lily or the Leafs just a reality of the situation.

I'm less a fan of Sandin so would happily move him for Bertuzzi as well, I doubt Dubas feels the same on that though.

I would normally disagree but in this case we would need to do our due diligence better than we did with Foligno:

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi underwent successful back surgery on Friday, April 30 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The procedure was performed by Dr. Frank Cammisa. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of the 2021-22 season.
A player with a questionable back? Should be worth a 1st rounder for sure, right Kyle?

Bertuzzi - played less than 20% of the season. No guarantee of health. 1 year from UFA status.

Johnsson came back from injury and had a contract. He returned Joey Anderson.
