Klingberg+ for Connor Murphy. That + might be a lot though.
Cap is almost a wash,
Who can tell how much the Hawks value Murphy. And maybe they like being free of cap for next year.
They have zero offense from their backend, so maybe they would like Klingberg to pump Bedard's numbers.

Or Klingberg+ for Peeke and Robinson from CBJ.

If Vancouver is looking for more defensive depth, this could work for both sides.

Suter and Mikhayev are on their PP units and haven't produced anything, very legit case to actually use 2 defenseman in this case.

I think the Leafs could address a lot of their needs in a single trade with the Islanders. Cizikas and Clutterbuck would be easy adds that would not cost anything significant in terms of assets. Pelech would also be a great acquisition, but much more expensive, both in terms of salary and acquisition cost.

With the Flames struggling, I'd hope we go after Hanifin. He's the right age and we could lock him up long term. Problem is, we have no cap space and should not be sending out futures in a year where the wheels are falling off. I just don't know what we even have to trade right now.

What this None-sense TSN is putting out saying "a trade won't fix what's broken in Toronto."

You can tell this is Toronto's front office deflecting blame from themselves onto to the coach, when this is a purely personnel issue.

There are a few theories in this thread...

1. Blaming Coach
2. Internal Strife.

I heard... three injuries to the D meaning playing 8/9/10 and that the forwards aren't committed to playing D enough right now, and they need to be held accountable by the coach to do that. I don't see that as immediately blaming the coach, but that if the forwards couldn't commit, he might be under the microscope.

It's interesting though, the team has decent results, when neither Klingberg or Reaves are not on the ice.

It appears to me, as though the teams play is worse than this simply being down to these two... but I've got to think, if you take them out, see what happens should be on the radar, at minimum as a start.

Keefe just said McCabe in, Klingberg out but conveniently been playing through injury.

Practice yesterday seemed to hint at Reaves coming out so we'll see if that is still the case.

1-2 games without the 2 of them and if we're crushing it, you have your answer.

It's crazy how terrible just a few players can completely sink a team. I'd say Kampf is entering that circle soon... he can't even win face offs anymore. Good teams with good depth will demolish your team on most nights if you have lines that are below replacement level. Right now the Leafs are a 3 line 2 pairing team with questionable goaltending.

This is why I'm slightly optimistic they can turn it around. All it takes is Treliving to fix his mistakes... and that might be the big issue.

I think more needs work than just that... but if we can at least start winning regular season games, it's an improvement on where we currently sit.

Oh yea I just don't want to be cratered by 1-2 guys not being NHL caliber but at least you can probably cruise along, get more W's than L's and then hopefully make some positive additions.

Hard to call it a 3 line team when 2/3 need to be sheltered. Neither Tavares nor Domi can play match-up against other top lines and come out ahead consistently. If Matthews gets injured we lose our ability to shelter anyone for any amount of time.

The Kampf one is a conundrum..... how did he go from being good, to not good so quick? I mean, I get the linemates aren't suited to him... but the faceoffs? I guess you'd only know if you were in the room. Surround him with more appropriate linemates, people who can carry the puck out of the zone, with some speed... That shouldn't be hard... should it?

I found this article... from March 2022... and it was about Controlled entries into the Ozone. The guy ranked last... Ryan Reaves...

So you've got a guy in Kampf, who needs to play with guys who can carry the puck, and you put him with the guy who is the worst in the NHL at it... I mean you can't make this up. Jarnkrok incidentally was also near the bottom.

Offloading Kampf might not be easy... and it probably makes more sense finding the right guys to play with him.

I know this comes up from time to time but christ I would love to get away from JT. Leadership / Fire isn't there, production is okay/good but definitely not 11M and demeanor etc too similar to Matthews, Marner and 88.

Most likely we have to wait another year but just a different look at 2C like maybe Stephenson in UFA or Bennett via trade.

Honestly think you have to see what you have in the team with Klingberg and Reaves simply scratched or waived to get a better idea of where the team is at.

Without Reaves you can put together a tough usage line that can be sunk in the d-zone which is sorely, sorely needed as the only line that can truly be trusted in the d-zone is the 1st line.

Gregor - Kampf - ?

It's a decent start

This the problem of always getting deadline help .
You have very little in the system to bring up .
One thing I liked what treliving did in the summer was fill the roster with ufas .
Not saying they were the best choices but hopefully using up all our draft picks for rentals will end .
We finally have young skilled players on ELC contracts
Knies this yr

Next yr Cowen Minten

The following yr Grebyonkin

Now we need to find dmen in the draft

I think you may be exaggerating.

I really don't think they have 2 pairings.

j/k

One top pairing defender.
Rielly - TBD
McCabe and Liljegren - 2nd. pairing on good nights.
Giordano, Brodie, Klingberg in easy match-ups when running at 100% health
Benoit, Lagesson, Marlies Callup

Treliving's off-season is not getting a passing grade, but it is still early.

Perhaps getting a Kulikov or Ian Cole to sign in Toronto is too difficult.

It is early for sure. But my/our patience is running thin. There isn't much positives from the eye test to the advanced stats. Just like that year where Babcock was fired and replaced, the team looked like absolutely horse poop, and they looked terrific when Keefe took over. This team needs to rectify the clear massive issues they have and quite frankly, it wouldn't be hard to fix them... unless they keep being blind to them.

I think the Leafs could address a lot of their needs in a single trade with the Islanders. Cizikas and Clutterbuck would be easy adds that would not cost anything significant in terms of assets. Pelech would also be a great acquisition, but much more expensive, both in terms of salary and acquisition cost.

Cizikas would be a good target in terms of what we need. A hard working gritty center. He's really expensive for a 4th line center though and he's going to turn 33 years old this season. He's signed for another 3 years. I wouldn't give up much to grab him.

We did have that three game winning streak not too long ago with both of them in the lineup. A lot more than a couple of players will typically factor into a couple of wins or losses.

Lowry would be a nice addition too... but not likely available. The challenge being... with what assets are we going to obtain that 2C, and why do these teams want to get rid of them? Bennett is also a UFA, when Tavares contract runs out... so there is that....

Lowry is a big part of that leadership group and actually wants to be there, would be a big disruption.

Florida might run into salary troubles with Forsling, Montour and Lundell contracts coming up. Not sure if they want to keep Reinhart either.

Tavares is an extremely effective C though... almost 64% in the dot, still PPG... .I think it makes more sense for now, to focus on a winger to compliment them best, and focus on a good match up 3C.

Overall, I think our focus should be D though.

It's not as glaring of an issue right now...I do find our team speed really sucks and it sticks out a lot in the playoffs with Tavares

That being said, I agree in that we're probably lacking 1-2 defenseman, easy peasy in front of our net.

I want to see what removing Reaves from this roster could do to possibly help Kampf but if he doesn't rebound soon, yea we're screwed at centre, badly.

I mean... you think we have too much cap tied up in too few players now....

If there is a trade for McD, Marner will most likely be the player going the other way along with Sammy, Kling and plus while Jack will also be returning. Just don’t see how it will be Kling, Domi and Bert for McD.

About 30 yrs ago, Leafs did pull off the 10 players Dougie trade.

Exactly where I'm thinking they need to fix things

It would slot everyone in their proper spots.

I'm not going to come up with the trade proposals on how to get there though. That's Trelivings job.

I think they should do something sooner than later though.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom but something needs to change.
