Your Worst Nightmare
Looks to me like we're heading down the Klingberg to the Marlies route in a few weeks... maybe as early as this week-end depending on McCabe.

That's 6 left handed shots being used ahead of Klingberg and he is the only right handed shot healthy, 2 call-ups (8th and 9th on the depth chart) practicing ahead of the #3 defenseman on the team in terms of ice time.

Yeah that's why I think waiving him now just opens up avenues. Just rip the band aid. But I know they will wait until after Sweden to do something like that.

Why not Klingberg for Voracek? He's not going to play again, can be LTIR'd.

He's owed $4,792,822 for the balance of the season.

Klingberg is owed around $1.7 for the balance of the season.

Saves $3 mil for Arizona in real dollars.... clears the cap completely for us.

I'd take on Stecher if they need to dump a body.

Doesn't insurance cover the contract?

Maybe... When I last looked at it, NHL teams had the option to purchase insurance, that would cover 80% of a contract.... but it was optional, and typically only the highest paid players on a team would be insured. Maybe it's changed... I don't know really. But, if it's not insured, it would make sense to both teams... if it is insured... not so much.

Note, as per above... Voracek's was covered. Oh well, it had merits... until it didn't. But that's probably the type of deal that makes sense.

I wonder if Zucker's deal is insured... that would save them cash too.

Pretty much. Once we get some healthy bodies in, we'll see what Treliving does but I feel like it's heading one way.

Klingberg right now is getting absolutely sh** on by every fan, journalist and analyst in the NHL. I haven't seen this much piling on since Toskala let in THE goal. I don't think there's any way he can redeem himself anytime soon other than to go to the Marlies, or another NHL team if he gets claimed, and get away from it.

Not to say someone like Robertson can't be traded for a good player back but generally speaking, he's been very good and the Leafs should keep him. Benoit and Lagesson have showed that they can play in a bottom pairing role. They keep it simple and they play aggressive.
maybe Detroit will take Klingberg, worked when they traded for Larry Murphy.........

Trying to think of someone that Leafs could attempt to acquire that wouldn't cost someone like Robertson.

Wonder what Dylan Coghlan would cost? Behind a huge logjam at Carolina, capable at playing in the NHL, having a good season. I think he signed a $800,000 one way deal so maybe a team like Carolina would want to move someone like him to get some real $ savings and give him a chance to play.

Are the Leafs even permitted to put more money on LTIR?

Vladar is terrible. Worse than Samsonov with another year on his contract. Not sure why people keep mentioning Vladar. His numbers aren’t good in multiple different leagues.
Personally not a fan, but I can see Tre being interested.

Domi and Kane also have chemistry playing well together.

I just don’t see Kane wanting to play in Canada.

Exactly, or a forming a 3rd scoring line w Robertson and Domi, with a proper shutdown line Holmberg - Kampf - Jarnkrok.

Just the best way to add depth to the group without losing assets.

I’d use Klingberg + 1st/Niemala for one of the Calgary d, ideally Hanifin.
