Pagnotta says we’re still looking at Sean Walker. He’s mentioned Savard, Parayko, Walker in the last 2-3 days. Yeah that first rounder is getting traded for sure

They've been looking at every option under the sun. They also said they aren't trading their first for a rental.

Parayko has significantly regressed. But he might work with Rielly. But the blues will have to retain

We have just continually drafted a certain profile of defensemen that I think is somewhat flawed.
Since the Dermott draft:

6'7" 224
6'6" 240
6'5" 224
6'5" 211
6'5" 203
6'4" 230
6'4" 206
6'4" 200
6'2" 198
6'2" 183
6'2" 170
6'1" 190
6'0" 202
6'0" 200
6'0" 195
6'0" 192
6'0" 179
6'0" 179
5'11" 187
5'11" 182
5'11" 181
5'9" 172
5'9" 170

Seems like a pretty varied mix of defenseman profiles.

I think Tony DeAngelo would be more like the player the Leafs get. Comes dirt cheap without NTC/NMC, Carolina willing to retain and would be Klingberg's replacement. We are shopping in the bargain bin and need to keep our limited assets. Sizable portion of the team is unlikeable anyway...what difference is one more jerk going to make? Would you rather have Justin Holl from a different team's bargain bin? We're shopping at Value Village, not Saks Fifth Avenue.

Thank you for the ongoing comedy.

Edited material - Why do this stuff, that is so detached from reality that's it comical? We are nearly $6 mil over the cap with this, and you don't address the other teams needs at all. It's just NHL24 crap thrown at a wall.

I believe we should only trade our first in deals where we get a defenseman and a forward back like a Scott Walker + Scott Laughton type of deal.

We should only trade Minten + 24 first in a deal for player like Mackenzie Weegar or Pavel Buchevich

We haven’t turned any of the big ones into NHL players. All of our top defensive prospects have been in the mold of Dermott and Sandin.

This should be extended to Robertson and Liljegren. They should not be trading capable young NHLers right now. It would take a lot for me to remove those 2 players as well.
I'm okay if they swap needs, like a JVR/Schenn deal but moving either for a rental isn't ideal

What was Dermott's mold?

There’s a simple reason why.

Big defensemen with NHL toolboxes are top 10 picks.

Small defensemen with NHL toolboxes can be had late 1st to early 2nd.

Finding a big bodied defensemen beyond the top half of the 1st round is difficult.

I don’t see Robertson excelling under Keefe and with Cowan most likely making the jump next season, I’m open to potentially dealing Robertson only for the right price. Definitely not giving him away but if he has to be apart of a deal for a top four defenceman, I do it. Liljegren is a keeper even though he can’t really take that next step into solidifying a top four role. He’s still a RHD two-way defenceman and worst case he’s a very good third pairing dman.

Anyone can be traded for the right return. The right return seems terrible right now.

Cowan could come in and be great right away... but it's a lot more likely that he'll need just as much time Robertson needed at the same age. You have to be careful to give a roster spot 8 months in advance.

100%. Sucks management will have a tough decision to make come next seasons training camp. Cowan is too good to be sent back down to the OHL but won’t be old enough to play in the AHL. Similar situation Marner was in at the same time. Let’s hope we get similar success!
