Jets have $13. 9 in cap space... and only DeMelo, Dillon a backup goalie, Monahan and Perfetti to sign... you'd think the D and Perfetti would a priority, and there is a decent amount of space to work with there.
Yup. DeMelo is a local guy though, if the money/term is in the same range I'm hoping he would sign here.

Tavares is more than fine as 3C. It’s 2C that was an issue. I’m glad he’s finally being placed I where he belongs and can excel better.

I have no doubt Knies will one day be consistently playing with Matthews but for right now, I’d love to see a third line of Knies - Tavares - McMann. All three are big, Knies and McMann can skate on the wings, Tavares is elite in the dot and all 3 can play a dump and chase/cycle game.
Our C situation looks solved for next season unless Domi considerably prices himself out. Matthews, Domi, Tavares down the middle. Move out Kampf for cap savings and 4C is Holmberg or Minten, or just find another Kampf in UFA for half the price.

Growing pains with Knies right now, he's done an adequate job but probably a tad rushed playing on the top line. 3LW is where he should've been deployed this season, bit of a sink or swim situation. He'll be a lock in the top 6 next season and onward.

On the Jeff Marek show, Friedman mentions
Savard, Jensen & Lyubushkin linked to the leafs.

Marek Mentions Edmundson.
The Jensen fit is tricky and interesting.
A fair term average salary ticket would be hard to fit right now. I don’t think the player would be.

Friedman talking that Tampa is now the favourite for Hanifin, and he'd want to extend there? With what cap are they going to get that done? They have $10.647 million in cap space for next year now, with 16 bodies... Hanifin is going to get $6.5-$7.5... so how do you fill a roster with ~$4mil or less... and only 17 bodies?

Keep in mind, Stamkos is a UFA too.
They seem like a club that has painted themselves into a corner even if they make the money fit somehow. Are they a solid LD away from being a top team again? Will that fix Vasi's .896 sv%? And what do they have to trade? It will be fascinating to watch if they can swing it.

I was high on Jensen at 2.5m before his move to Washington. Now he's more of what we already have and I don't believe he's the guy for Rielly. There are options in the UFA market for similar price point that won't cost us assets.

Please not Dumba..
Bruins, Oilers, and Tampa are also supposed to be interested and the Leafs are the only team that has already added a hard hitting RD so fear not. Or at lead don't fear too much Tre does occasionally surprise.

Of those players listed as C's in this league, ours are 4th, 31st and 56th in scoring.

So high end 1st line C.
Low end 1st line C.
Low end 2nd line C.

Where is the gaping hole, and why?

The discussion had only been about RD... so I didn't mention any LD.

Hildeby has been pretty good with the Marlies, but has zero games at the NHL level, so it's impossible to say he's better than any 3G's.

Sammy stays for the season. He had a good game last night too.
The gaping hole is Max Domi because he can't defend a lick. He gives up more chances than he generates, and in a playoff series the opposition will match their best line against him anytime they can on home ice. A serious playoff lineup has Domi at wing with insulation defensively.

Stamkos is a no from me. He's falling harder than Tavares at this point. Still putting up points, but he's a winger, and his defense has taken a nose dive. He's a -24 on the season, and I appreciate that +- isn't the be all and end all... but come on with him.

Agree. Stamkos is basically a PP specialist now. 24 even strength points puts him tied with Knies and 1 more than Kerfoot....

Based on Elliotte, it seems like Leafs have no plan to trade Robertson. Sent down just because of waivers. Leafs told him he'll be back up shortly.
It makes sense, next season when there is a real cap crunch, you are going to need NHL players on ELC/low cap hits.

Rather trade the 1st round pick that's going to be useful in 3 years then trade a player thats useful to use now and next year.

If you’re trying to trade Robertson and boost his value you don’t send him to the minors. I agree we should keep him.
