I would consider giving up the 1st for Hanifin IF he signed an extension as part of the deal.

Sounds like Calgary doesn't want to play ball with Tre (at least the ownership).

Which is unfortunate because Hanifin is great.

Am I misinterpreting this or did Keefe basically just tell Jones he's done through the media?

I'm sure Jones is aware also. I'm more interested in Tre's comments. I don't think he wants to lose Jones on waivers. I think the Leafs may trade him if there's a market or include him in a deal.. I also wouldn't be surprised if they went and then acquired a 3rd stringer who's already in the AHL (e.g. Malcom Subban).

Vatrano would be an interesting name. Robertson + for a 50% retained Vatrano would be solid IMO.

Vatrano - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Domi - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - McMann
Jarnkrok - Kampf - Holmberg

Rielly - Lyubushkin
Brodie - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe

Woll - Samsonov

Pretty solid.

He's shooting 5% above his career average in terms of shooting percentage and he isn't great defensively. Honestly we should just play Robertson more.

I’m sure you’re right. I’m probably just grasping at straws for another reason to dislike keefe since he’s been starting to grow on me lately lol

The suspicious nature surrounding Lilys absence sounds like hes being held out of the lineup in case hes dealt. We'll see.

Lybushkin was such a shitty addition.

Jensen would be a pretty mediocre addition too.

Basically get a REAL top 4 RD defenseman or don't bother. I feel like I just saw this team flush a 3rd and 6th round pick down the toilet.

I was on the Lybushkin train the first time around but our needs are different now versus last time.
You mean that unlike those who praise him because big/tough, you actually watched him play last time? He was so bad. But it really does tell you who are the hockey fans who know the game.

At the time he was a welcome addition to one of the softest D cores ever assembled.

My hot take is that this is it for the D-core.

Finding a C to replace Domi will also improve the team defensively as Leafs were rumored to be looking for a forward. Perhaps Wennberg @ 50%?

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Wennberg - Nylander
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Domi
McMann/Reaves - Kampf - Holmberg

Rielly - Boosh
Brodie - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe

Woll
Samsonov

I also think the leafs are done adding D. Unless its a bonafide top pairing Dman....we're not acquiring another depth defenseman

We're mostly gonna try to acquire a depth forward

I think we're actually in a tough position standings-wise for the names being thrown around.

Preds and Kings are solidly in playoff position. No real reason for them to sell.

Seattle might sell but their blue liners have term. They'll probably move a couple expiring forwards and look to retool.

St. Louis might look to sell some pieces but they don't really have what we need. Only Parayko fits the bill and that contract is a non starter for the Leafs cap

In the East, I don't think the Islanders, Devils or Penguins are looking to sell.

I know some are calling for all in but what really are our options?

This is parity... love it or hate it... this is what it does.

If one defenseman gets hurt in the playoffs, the options are 40 year old Giordano and Lagesson (he's never played an NHL playoff game). They are both good options. But, I'd like to make them the #8 and #9 guys on the depth chart. Another depth defenseman to compete for ice with the top-6 that could rotate in would be a wise choice.

They should get another forward too. A gritty bottom-6 winger to play with Kampf and Jarnkrok on the shutdown 4th line has to be on the agenda. The same idea as before, ideally Reaves and Gregor are the #14 and #15 forwards on the depth chart heading into the playoffs. Someone is brought in that could compete with the top-12 forwards and likely start over Holmberg.

If New Jersey can’t add a goalie, I think they may sell.

Timothy Liljegren, Nick Roberson and a 1st for John Marino and Tyler Toffoli at 50%. Get a long term partner for Rielly and a good scorer with playoff experience.

Knies-Matthews-Marner
Bertuzzi-Domi-Nylander
Toffoli-Tavares-McMann
Holmberg-Kampf-Jarnkrok

Rielly-Marino
Brodie-Lyubushkin
Benoit-McCabe

Sleeper player to try in bottom 6 is Jan Jenik. Probably can get for a 4th or something.

Point is to scan for young disgruntled players who are hungry to prove themselves and compete
