I think many people are really underrating Liljegren. Maybe its partly because he isn't super physical and laying big hits all the time and he isn't putting up a ton of points either, but if you put that aside he's been playing really good defense in most games these days and I trust him on the ice in important situations. Also his offense has slowly improved as Keefe has been giving him more PP time and he's been getting more involved in taking the puck up the ice and making plays with it.
I always said that Liljegren just needed a chance to prove himself and right now he's looking pretty good and you can probably re-sign him at a good price so I don't know why some people keep throwing him in trade proposals when we should be keeping him probably above most every other Dman we have.
Agreed. He's competent with the puck and making plays offensively, defends well, works hard and has been fairly versatile with his role, whether it's PP or PK or just 5 on 5. He's not small or lightweight either... pretty average all around.
I always think people around here expect a lot of perfection from defenseman. Yeah sometimes he'll turn over the puck, yeah sometimes he will look bad defensively. If they aren't playing perfectly, they have to be shipped or waived. Nothing in between. Only still 24 years old, about to turn 25 in a couple months. I don't understand the thought process of trading him either, especially for a very marginal upgrade at best.
He should be a long-term RHD option for the Leafs. He won't cost a ton either as he enters his prime.
