have a sinking feeling treliving will trade the 1st for laughton and risto

How does he add ~8.5M in cap space?

But Risto alone is probably feasible with a minor cap dump of some kind or heavy retention. Being interested in Risto is mind boggling but fits the level of player additions Treliving has been targetting, which is poor to say the least.

Colossal f*** up? Are you on glue? Sure it hasn’t worked out, but $1.35M for a player who has brought the type of swagger and energy the Leafs haven’t had since Burke was the GM is not a bad gamble at all. I can highlight over 20 mistakes that fraud pathetic piece of shit loser GM Dubas made quite easily. People need to get over the Reaves signing and realize that although it hasn’t worked out, it’s an easily manageable contract.

Reaves was a 1 year 775k contract or should have been, and if it wasn't, you pass.

In terms of Dubas - agreed but we're in the Treliving era now and it wasn't a smart addition.

I’m a fan of both Flames and Leafs. I was trying to think of a fair deal. Tanev and Markstrom for Samsonov, Liljegren and Minten. What yall think? I would assume Tanev resigns.

With the way the Leafs have been playing all season, I don't think Tre will make any big moves. It just isn't worth spending anymore future assets to improve this team in season. This team has been disappointing all year and there's no indication it's getting better.

I would hope we are looking at dumping some expiring contracts that aren't in the future plans here and get something back for them. Maybe even move a guy like Bert, Brodie and/or Domi for a minor return and then bring in some stop gaps to help in the playoffs on the cheap. Sort of a soft reset in season.

Agreed, no point going all in until they replace the interim coach. You don't floor the pedal with donuts for wheels.

Risto would be... Not good. 3.5 mil is much better than 5 mil, but there's so much term.

He's basically been used as a sheltered 3rd pairing guy last couple seasons which have improved some of his stats. But that doesn't seem like a good trend if the plan is to play him in the top 4

Only way it makes any sort of sense is if the price is very cheap and there's a lot of retention. But even that it's unreal how bad it would be.

Risto is 6th on the Flyers in minutes. Deployed in a bottom pairing role. Almost no PP or PK minutes. What the f*** is the upside? What does he improve? I don't get it.

If you want a bottom pairing RHD that throws hits and does nothing else, just trade for Lyubushkin and call it a day.

Okay, so what do the Lightning send Calgary for Tanev and Hanifin to fill in the Cap Space from Sergachev LTIR?

They don't have a 1st. or a 2nd.

:sarcasm:
Tampa has no assets to trade. I can't see them acquiring anyone significant. Maybe they re-acquire Schenn for a mid-round pick, although his salary would be an issue for them.

Can't keep track of all these Insiders. Who is Anthony DiMarco?
Anthony DiMarco is legit when it comes to Philly news. I can definitely see Treliving interested in Risto and we all know the Leafs have been after Laughton for awhile. Now it's just finding a package that works for Philly.

I don't know their prospects.

A good prospect is just as good as a late 1st.
Additionally, maybe they are willing to part with a regular, under contract, player in the deal.

Flames are looking at the future, but they still have some major long term contracts they aren't going to be able to flush.

As much as I’d love Parayko to pair with Rielly, the finances don’t quite work without making another deal to clear cap and cutting depth.

The budget version would be Tanev + Greer for future 2nd/2024 3rd + Kampf + Timmins + prospect like Villeneuve.

Bottom 6
Robertson - Domi - Jarnkrok
Greer - Holmberg - McMann/Gregor
Reaves

D
Rielly - Tanev
Benoit - McCabe
Brodie - Liljegren

Then target someone like Roy in the off-season for a free wallet. Keep Tanev if he’s affordable.
the budget version is unlikely to bring a cup this year. the D will still be suspect and this trade will just make it harder to make moves that will move the needle in the right direction down the road.... should just stand pat or sell. If a cup is won this season it will be a hand of God intervention where the big contracts step up and the goaltending stands on their head...

I’m not down giving up our first rounder, but man he’d be a perfect fit here.

TRADE PROPOSAL

Leafs receive: Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev

Flames recieve: Nick Robertson, 2024 first round pick and Fraser Minten.
Are Both Hanifin and Tanev extended? We’d need to send some salary back. Getting a center back somehow would be great.

Plus we do need a goalie too. We don’t have a capable/bonafide #1 in our trio.

There's 0 possible way that trade works since Toronto is taking on a crap ton of salary and not shipping any out.
Both their caphits are under 5 million and Calgary can retain. Also Friedman knows what he's talking about more than these twitter experts. I think we add Bertuzzi to balance the salary and it could work.
