Benoit has been really good, if Broberg can play as well as him it's a massive win

Benoit is 25, and he's been a win for the Leafs thus far.

Broberg is 22, and has played 79 NHL games over 3 years.

I'm curious who Robertson would replace in the Oilers top 9?
I know he has more points than some Oilers, but some of their top 9, non-scorers are on their PK. He isn't knocking Ryan or other PKers out of the line-up.

Not sure how this helps the Oilers, nor at this point how it helps the Leafs.

If both teams are looking at future years, maybe it makes some sense.

This has 4.5 million for a lw and a goalie.

If we can sign Demelo, Tanev, and Liljegren for a combined 10 million, that would be incredible… but, unfortunately, that’s not realistic at all.
With Klingberg on LTIR, we are paying our right side, around $8m. At $10m, you then have $4+m less to spend on the remaining open roster spots after paying Matty and Willie's raises.

????
You think?
I don’t see them getting much more? Lilly is an rfa 3rd pair D with no offensive numbers.

Tanev is 34
Demelo is 30.

Are you thinking 5, 5 and 3? That seems steep for no offense D

Demelo and Tanev are UFAs, and the cap is supposed to jump significantly. I think they’ll both get 5+.

4,4 and 2. I agree that seems rich to me especially if Tanev wants to come home. I wonder if there is a number they would bring Brodie back.

Matt Roy would be a solid target too, can see something like 4.5 million per getting it done for him.
I’ve been onboard with Matt Roy for a while as well.

LA has ridiculous RHD depth and with prospects forcing their way in, Roy would be a smart player to kick availability tires on.

Benoit brings an element this team lacks at times, he's a big physical defenseman who has the trust of the coach who's playing him instead of multiple depth options

It's just a change of scenery trade, if either guy had shown they could do the job they would be playing for there respective teams already
Basically it's a dice roll

With Nylander getting 11.5m, Tre is going to have to squeeze everybody and anybody he needs to sign. I recall Dermott and Mikheyev to a lesser extent getting squeezed a few years ago because we were up against the cap.
And lily wouldn’t fuss. I just don’t see him taking 2 mil when he looks at that dcore I wouldn’t even play with him I’d sign him to 8 years too important

At an $87.7 million cap and $11.5 million AAV for Nylander, Tre will need to squeeze $1.9 million from the general population.

I thought it was $2.21m assuming a $4m bump in the cap.

$87.7-$83.5 cap difference =$4.2 million cap increase.

Matthews increase to $13.25 from $11.64 million = $1.61 million raise.

$4.2-$1.61 = $2.59 million left over to give Nylander a raises with no impact to the roster.

Nylander's current salary of $7.0+2.59 = $9.59 million.

$11.50-$9.59 million =$1.91 million that needs to be squeezed from the general population.

Which could even be found with Bertuzzi and Brodie both returning for slightly cheaper aavs. I suspect Brodie alone would potentially extend for a deal starting with a 3

I think we need a clean upgrade on Brodie, which can be done by combining the money he currently commands with some % of Klingberg's money.

My thinking is if you can upgrade Brodie into an $8 million defenseman (for example) everybody slots more comfortably below that.

But yeah, the money for Nylander can be saved in a few different places. And is for one year. If Tavares gets downgraded to under $6 million in 2025, he and Nylander would have basically swapped contracts.

In what capacity are you bringing Brodie back?

He clearly isn’t good enough at 1RHD. Enough bandaids there. Fill it appropriately, once and for all.

That leaves Brodie at 2 or 3 LHD.

McCabe is younger, cheaper, and simply a better player now at 2LHD.

Benoit is excellent value and exactly what we need at 3LHD.

We are not in a position to pay Brodie $3m. His play has already started to regress, and he won’t bring value for what he will want to be paid.

Much rather reallocate the $3m on someone like Peeke, and try and sign another UFA RHD this summer like DeMelo, Pesce, Montour, Matt Roy, Dumba, Matt Walker, Hakanpaa etc.

Hell, Bortuzzo is a UFA. Imagine the shitahow a pairing of Benoit-Bortuzzo would be??? :)

So Kampf and Reeves, if you replace them for 1M each there's your $1.91M saving
