To Toronto: Jack McBain
To Arizona: Nick Robertson + 3rd Round Draft Pick

To Toronto: Connor Murphy
To Chicago: Conor Timmins + Pontus Holmberg + 1st Round Draft Pick

With Klingberg going on LTIR, the salaries after both these moves is basically a wash.

Knies - Matthews - Nylander
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Marner
Domi - McBain - Jarnkrok
Gregor - Kampf - McMann

Rielly - Murphy
McCabe - Liljegren
Giordano - Brodie

Would love Jake McBain I don't know if that's enough for him.
They would probably want Minten instead of Robertson.
Hate to give up Minten but getting a big strong physical center with skill .

I sure hope not. But that's probably because I have a strong feeling that whatever trade we make is going to be pretty bad. I say that based on what Friedman said last night - trading away the future for a couple of rentals is a desperation move and is likely to hurt us in the long run.

Tres been vocal about wanting to tinker with the D since his initial media tour when first hired. I'd suspect he's going to jump on the first trade opportunity he.likes

I'm surprised he wasn't more aggressive to get Severson before Columbus got him. Seemed like a good bet to be a much much better version of Klingberg, young enough also to fit into the core moving forward at a solid 6.25M cap hit. Seemed like a good fit to be a good puck mover with size and he's right handed.

But yeah he's really not done much of anything to tinker the team into a better version of what it was. There's obviously a patience factor here so I get it but his first 2 signings were a disaster and the big majority of the team was already here. His only trade so far is Lafferty for a 5th round pick? I do think this is why there's a big push to get a few upgrades as soon as possible.

Honestly I’m less curious what the plan is but rather if there is a plan. The D SUCKS and the goaltending is unplayable. To me that’s not 1/2 pieces away. It’s like 4/5 plus upgrades they need to the rest of the team. Kampf sucks this year and is taking too much cap for what he brings and Bertuzzi doesn’t bring much of anything. His offence is bad and he’s barely even physical.

Ideally we keep Minten, I’d be open to basically anyone from our prospect pool outside of Cowan, Minten and Grebyonkin.

Gregor (775K for 1 year) - Acciari (2M per for 3 years) - Lafferty (1.15M for 1 year)

or

Gregor (775K for 1 year) - Kampf (2.4M per for 4 years) - Reaves (1.35M per for 3 years)
Cap savings of 600K shouldn't change all that much in the grand scheme of things. Acciari also has only been an upgrade on Kampf defensively (the latter actually has one more point thus far). My main concern with Treliving here has to do with giving (too much) term to players situated at or near the bottom of the lineup (I initially pegged Kampf to be a third liner).

I posted about chasing after Farabee in the off-season as a potential buy-low candidate. He’d still be a very good target as a long-term top 6 LW. He wasn’t listed among Philly’s untouchables in the off-season, he would be an example of a player who is worth giving up a 1st++ for (long-term asset, young, high probability of out-performing his contract).

Lafferty the only one who is doing anything out of all those players that was worth keeping. Gregor too but he's the only player named in both so left him out. Acciari is like 3 years older than Kampf and pretty much has the same contract and producing the same as Kampf and yet people think 1 contract is bad and not the other?

I think both Kampf and Acciari got fair UFA contracts given their ages and abilities. I think the Leafs would have been better off with Acciari in a 4th line role at his contract rather than Kampf with Domi at 3C. Acciari would have helped along with Lafferty to make the line tougher as a unit while maintaining a level of talent, while providing a similar offensive/defensive output.

I think there were some good pieces on last years team that just weren't properly identified by the new GM.

He did some good things. If he read the situation better coming in they wouldn't have pissed those players away and the team would actually be good.

The personnel isn’t a huge upgrade outside of replacing Reaves with an actual NHL player but that line would have had an obvious identity unlike the current line. 3 fast forecheckers and PK options vs 1 fast winger, a busted defensive specialist that can’t win faceoffs, and a podcast host with the best agent in the game.

What about another McCabe/Lafferty type trade?

TOR
Scott Laughton 50% retained - $1.5M for 3 playoffs
Sean Walker

PHI
1st
3rd
Timmins
Reaves ;)

If Tanev happens:

Knies Matthews Nylander
Bertuzzi Tavares Marner
Robertson Laughton Domi
Gregor Kampf Jarnkrok

Rielly - Tanev
McCabe - Walker
Brody-Liljegren

Laughton as the defense on the third line. Badly needed C for PK. Shut down 4th line. More O-zone starts for top 6.
