I do suspect GM Kyle Dubas has a move or two in his back pocket, and is waiting until the numbers work —

An Andersen for Rittich swap comes to mind. I don't think the Flames could take back Fred's full hit today, but it will be damn close at the deadline. Would also free up significant cap for us to make another deadline move, and save the Flames money in the process.

Don’t disagree.

but this seems like it’s more about being cautious. He was a bit sore yesterday, felt better today, but giving Hutchinson the start out of caution.

We have to remember, Campbell is coming back from a leg injury. It would be unwise with that sort of injury to toss him back into starting every single game.

If he doesn’t start Wednesday, then sure, we can start to panic

And as I post this: Friedman says Campbell expected to start Wednesday

I just wanted a good amount of Campbell starts to really test is ability to play a lot of games. It's wise to make 100% sure he's healthy for sure but... I will say it never gets easy.

I'd take Rittich as insurance but not for Andy if he will be healthy in a week (supposedly Andy > Rittich). If it looks like he won't be healthy, nobody will want him.

You can’t trade to get an established starter now. They have neither the cap space or the players to make it happen. You have to hope the patchwork backup gallery can eak out a few more wins until Soup or Andersen are 100%. They already traded for Double V

Capspace really isn't an issue unless the guy is an 8+ million guy (which they wouldn't trade for anywyas)

At this point in the season players only carry a fraction of what their caphit is on paper

I agree though with the playoffs being a lock, they likely value him being 110% healthy for that as greater than any other consideration

Sure better to error on the side of caution but my concern is can Soupy stay healthy for more than 2 or 3 games in a row? If not, you better be sure Andy can get back to 100% soon if you stand pat.

They have between now and the tdl to make that call. We'll have to wait and see what happens and what the trade market looks like

I wouldn’t be shocked if the contract extension talks between the Devils and Kyle Palmieri may have stalled here, putting him officially on the market.

Likely becomes of significant interest to the Leafs to the point he may be their #1 target, competing with the Isles and Bruins for his services.

I haven’t entertained the thought of it until now due to thinking he was closing in on an extension, but I feel like that isn’t happening.

Give me in this order;

1) Palmieri
2) Rakell
3) Hall

He has a NTC and the Friedman has hinted that the Canadian teams are on it, lots of players don't want to do the border crossing and quarantine.

Agreed, Nobody wanted to do 14 days.

I think you MAY see some change their tune with it being a 7 day option now and the Leafs being a very real option as a contender.

May is the key, they have time to make their pitch if this is the route they go.

Amadio traded for Wolanin. Swap of recently waived mid-20's depth guys.

Leafs may offer up a nothing prospect for Amadio at the TDL.

I'd like to see us swap a few of the Marlies guys out to give them other opportunities.

Guys like Kossila/Gaudet/Agostino. Maybe we find a guy like this that we wouldn't mind playing.

I think Petan and Barabanov would be the guys they turn to first. Petan is, by far, the best Marlie we have under contract. Barabanov has come along decently well too.

Amadio is a guy who can play center in the NHL. We can offer up a nothing prospect and let them save the salary they would have to pay Amadio on his 1 way deal before he becomes an RFA.

I’m not sure how I feel about Palmieri.

He seems a step behind this year than he usually is.

I still think Petan could have been useful if he was given the Barabanov/Galchenyuk chance in the top 6, but it doesn't look like he'll be given that chance here.

I agree those two are likely the first to go.

Do you have any idea what the Preds are up to? I like Grunland but I'm not sure he's on the market after they started getting some points

Those more versed with the CBA...anything stopping Toronto from putting Freddie on LTIR till the playoffs? Gives him a chance to get healthy and frees up cap until the cap doesn’t count? Other than that they may be counting on Freddie to help get them there?

The Leafs would need doctors to issue an evaluation that Andersen’s injury will make him unfit to play hockey for at least six more weeks. And the NHL can have independent doctors do an examination if they suspect any shenanigans are happening.

The limited details coming out suggest Andersen’s injury is not severe enough to keep him out that long.

Like I had hoped Buffalo is beating Philadelphia, hopefully Scott Laughton becomes available from Philli.

Starting to think Chucky makes the Leafs less desperate for a top 6 wing the way he's been playing. A top 6 winger, 3 line C or a solid D all seem equally valuable to the team right now; think it all depends who fits best along with who is the best player available.

Laughton at least would be a quick two-way centre that plays with an edge & is a good penalty killer; another hometown guy as well. Retaining him at 50% would allow the Leafs to either carry an extra roster player or acquire a 2nd rental player as well.

Laughton, Oleksiak, Iafallo.

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Iaffalo-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Laughton-Simmonds
Galchenyuk-Engvall-Spezza

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Oleksiak-Bogosian
Different variations of that lineup look very good in my mind, knowing Keefe will have set initial lines as well as blended variations. That's ideal.

Dubas is dumb to not trade for at least an upgrade on Hutchison .
Not that I’m a huge hutch guy, but what does the list look like for guys who make league minimum, would pass thru waivers and are better? I mean it’s great in theory to have extra depth everywhere but I don’t see it unless you’re thinking Fred is ltir for the season or will be traded

As much as I’d prefer Thornton to be out of the lineup, I doubt the Leafs actually take him out unfortunately.
