This "Taylor Hall is not a winner" argument is so...silly, especially as we just went through a similar thing with Kessel.

Yes, if Hall is your best player and expected leader then obviously you're not going to be good enough to win.

But when you already have lots of leadership and all you're asking Hall to do is be your 3rd or 4th best winger, what does his team history matter?

Hall hasn't won anything because he's always been stuck on bad teams. Not much he could do about that. He only signed in Buffalo to get the max salary he could and be dealt at the deadline. Like you said, if this guy isn't the focal point, you're looking pretty damn good. It would be foolish to not at least inquire about the pricetag.

You haven’t watch Taylor Hall a lot if you think he’s scared to have battle boards. Also Hall playing here and have a chance at a deep playoff run for the 1st time in his career would be a huge motivational boost for him. Let alone playing with Marner and Matthews.

There isn’t one single GM in the league that would rather have Barclay Goodrow than Taylor Hall in their lineup at the same price. That is just an idiot way of thinking. Hall has been really unlucky in his career playing with mediocre team, saying you don’t want him here at the right price is just stupidity. We’re talking about a former league MVP for christ sake!
i have to agree with this,,although Snizz is being a little harsh

This roster does need more jam/grit with semi skills

but we are talking about a former MVP/#1 overall ,,#2 all time points in that draft class #1 PPG,,

A PPG player for his 4 years in NJ before the buffalo/Zona train wrecks

29 years old,, young enough

you put him in our top 6 and it puts them next level.

You can add Hall, Granlund and whatever other goal-scorer/playmaker may be available-- it doesn't mean the Leafs are going to start scoring 5+ goals/game.

We need to optimize our roster and considering we have plenty of offensive threats, we need the jam and grit to get the most out of everyone. Otherwise they'll all want to shoot or dipsy-doodle and next thing you know the quality of chances declines.

Amen. We need balance.

I think you are selling the kids a little short with this "shoot or dipsy-doodle" narrative

Matty 23
Mitch 23
Willi 24

Let them grow into well rounded forwards,,it sure looks like they have been working towards that

as for 5 per game,,,no that's not what i am looking at,,,i am looking for the "extra skilled players" that can manage through tight tough teams like Jackets/Vegas/Wash

Not just Ekholm, but makes them more likely to hang onto Granlund as well.

My gut has always been some sort of move with the Ducks.

Rakell, retained, would obviously be awesome. That said, a retained Manson, at a reasonable price, would be a nice 3rd pairing option and Derek Grant would make sense as a depth forward as well.

That said, I'm also very interested in Laughton and Iafallo if the Flyers and Kings make moves.

Similarly silly is the "Hall is an offensive dispy doodler /perimeter player". Are we talking about the same Taylor Hall?

"Goes to the net with authority and is a great finisher. Displays constant energy. Has a tendency to play with sheer reckless abandon"

He's no defensive stalwart, and no one is going to confuse him with Cal Clutterbuck in terms of hitting, but he's (when on his game) a tenacious buzz saw of a hockey player.

YES he is and since he is only 29 and the motivative factors with him and opportunity on this roster

well now

What do you guys think about going after cheaper options this year and saving our picks to take advantage of this year's draft? ( we have best scouting and other teams are handcuffed in scouting players this draft).

Trade some low picks and cheap prospect for utility players and make a run with what we have ( we have great depth already) and go hard this draft in getting players we want.?

Or swing for the fences this year?

Personally I wouldn't give up any prime assets for this year. It'll be a crazy draft with so much unplayed hockey this season and we don't have the space for a huge add.
