Canes officially signed DeAngelo. With him and Burns on their right side, my small hope of a trade around Nylander+ for a package involving Pesce and Jarvis lives on
I think that would be the best route for the Leafs to take at this point. Nylander + for Pesce + Jarvis.

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Jarvis looks pretty good

Pesce and Jarvis would be a great return for Nylander, though they both will need new contracts next year and Pesce being an UFA it would be critical to extend him. I suppose we’d then move Brodie for some futures of someone on an ELC. It would be great to move him for a potential future C, but overall would be a solid move.

I hadn't really considered a Brodie buyout. I think he was fine last year but maybe overplayed by the playoffs. I am not sure that the right side can absorb his loss.
A very small small part of me is okay with Brodie being bought out is if Murray is also traded and we use his money to upgrade on D.

Other then that, buying out Brodie just doesn't make sense for the Toronto Maple Leafs, right side defense is already questionable, yet we get rid of the best player there?

Thinking about Nylander / Wilson swap,

I love the idea of a

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Wilson line

And having two skilled bangers to get Matthews fired up and playing a lil of a different play style.

I think Brady Skjei might be a low key great alternative to Pesce here too. Also a UFA next year, LHD, terrific skater, 29 years old. Skates like a dream and has untapped offense. If we re-signed him and moved on from Brodie that would represent a real upgrade in the athleticism, size, etc.

They have Rielly and McCabe on the left. Unless you are moving McCabe's $2M cap hit that doesn't seem like a fit since most of Brodie's minutes are on the right. I could see a new right shot addition pushing Lilly to 3rd pairing for a year but I am thinking they are set on the left. With the Canes adding another right shot top 4 D it makes sense that Pesce is the guy outbound.

I think just grab the best defenseman you can, and Skjei would be very compelling.

You can almost imagine Gary Bettman and Bill Daley playing business men making up a rule like that, "and then we give them a 48 hour window after 48 hours. And they'll get 48 hours, no more no less. And they have to fax it in... and then we print it out and time stamp it."

I’m not 100% sure if this is correct but a Murray buyout would give us a 700k cap hit this year and a 2 million dollar cap hit next season? While a Brodie buyout would be 0 dollars towards our cap hit this year but 2.5 million against it next year while loosing a valuable player?

Why is this even a conversation? No chance the Leafs buyout Brodie.

Because there are a lot of dumb members of the media in Toronto

Sure, lets completely neutralize our biggest scoring threat by never getting him the puck.

+ should still probably be on the other side instead of ours. Point producing natural RW are much rarer than people think. We have two of the top 5 in the league so it's understandable, but we need a huge haul to convince me giving up 30-40 goals and the 80ish points somehow makes us better next season when Willy is still very much affordable.

Problem is I can’t see him signing an extension in Calgary. He’d need to sign in order for us to get the most out of a trade.
Willy strikes me as a guy who will sign as long as the money is right. If they give him the Huberdeau contract, I don't think he says no. Calgary is desperate for guys

I’d want Lindholm + Duehr + Ruzicka + Zadorov
For
Nylander + Robertson + Liljegren

If Nylander is Traded I still keep coming back to Hanifin+Dube+
Dube would be a nice add

Gross

I get the love affair with zadorov but he plays a third of his time like dave ellett..

The other calgary names are just throw ins and no point in liljegren.. if both him and nylander are involved then andersson is on the table

Lilly is not an even outer

Not wrong
Pesce and Jarvis would be savvvvvy.

Give'em an extended Nylander, a dman like Timmins and a prospect like Voit/Neimela/Hirvonen
Jarvis is their Knies. I doubt he's moved for anyone outside an obvious home run, which Nylander is not at his 2024 projected cap hit.

Tre really liked Zary, I wonder if he would target him. Zary is the same age as Robertson, similar performances in junior and AHL.

I’m not comparing any of these players but even if that’s how they view Jarvis, let’s say we were offered Forsberg for Knies… As a contender and having the cap space, I’m definitely pulling the trigger on that move.

If Nylander came with an extension, I don’t think they hesitate in moving Jarvis for Nylander at all.

To Toronto: Seth Jarvis + Brett Pesce
To Carolina: William Nylander + Conor Timmins

To Toronto: Kevin Bahl
To New Jersey: Calle Jarnkrok

To Toronto: Michael Rasmussen + Joseph Veleno
To Detroit: TJ Brodie + Sam Lafferty

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Jarvis
Robertson - Tavares - Marner
Knies - Domi - Rasmussen
Veleno - Kampf - Reaves

Rielly - Pesce
McCabe - Klingberg
Bahl - Liljegren

Samsonov - Woll
