To Toronto-
Backlund
Hanifin
Zadorov

To Calgary-
Nylander
Brodie
Robertson

Sign Tarasenko 1yr/4 million

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Tarasenko
Knies-Tavares-Marner
Domi-Backlund-Jarnkrok
Reaves-Kampf-Lafferty
McMann

Rielly-Hanifin
McCabe-Klingberg
Zadorov-Liljegren

If you sign Samsonov @ $3 mil, and get rid of Murray for free, your lineup is $6 mil over the cap.

Peeke feels like that kind of player that you have to acquire now right before he has a very good season under a better team/coach and his value drastically rises.

Big, physical player that started a ton in the defensive zone and is a RHD..

His playstyle is actually very similar to Schenn's but he's more mobile.

But what would we send back? They don't need D in return. Most likely looking for Centers.

Yep we might not line up well with their team needs, I just think in general some team would be smart to acquire him now before his value really goes up.

Imo little chance Brodie and Nylander would be moved in the same.trade. that's asking the other team to take on 12 mil in new capspace. Fairly hard to do for most.

If Nylander is moved think more what the Kings gave up for Fiala, which is probably the closest trade model for a potential deal. No sign and trade, just a straight trade for a pair of futures

I'm very curious to see how Lindholm does with the Boston infrastructure disintegrating around him. Last year was a perfect season for them in the regular season and they had incredible depth up front.

How a team loses Hall, Foligno, Bertuzzi, Orlov, Hathaway, etc. maybe Bergeron, Krejci and doesn't take a step back, I have no idea.
Not to mention, it is believed they will likely loose a goaltender as well

The number 1 thing we have to account for in any trade with Nylander is if the acquiring is willing team to pay him 10M+

without an extension his value is not very good, probably similar to what Debrincat got.

Is he even available? I'd assume Babcock would love this kid especially when they have Provorov, Werenski and Bean on the left side and Severson, Peeke, Gudbranson and Boquist on the right side. Peeke is a PKer while Boquist isn't and they have a few guys who could QB that PP already so he seems like the odd man out.

It goes beyond that, they also have Jiricek, Svozil and Ceulemans.

Personally if you could get Jiricek in a trade for Nylander...that would a nice grab. They need offense and we need some high end D in our system.

The decision for management is whether they believe we are a true contender or not.

If they think we can compete for a cup this year, they won’t want to lose a trade. They either need to keep him or return players that can help as much or more.

If they don’t think we’re really contenders, and they don’t want to sign him to his ask, then getting anything of value for the future is a win.

I can imagine that when Babcock got hired Nylander put Columbus on his 10 team no trade list lol.

They finished fourth in the NHL regular season last year. Any team that does that, or close is likely viewed as a contender internally. Heck, any team that makes the playoffs might be a contender, if they get lucky, and hot goaltending... as we saw this year.

Shanahan said this in May.

“If you look throughout the history of hockey, there are lots of players who are in the Hall of Fame or who have their names etched on the Stanley Cup multiple times who went through this same experience early in their careers with their teams,” Shanahan said. “The teams that were wise enough to hang on them — to continue to surround them and develop them, and just keep trying and trying and getting better and improving — benefitted eventually.”

It seems they believe they are contenders.

I think Shanahan says that knowing nobody will actually look throughout hockey history….

If Shanahan is looking through hockey history, he'll realize that he won the cup with Detroit in 1997.

Yzerman started with Detroit in 1983. It was his 13th season before he won the cup. In his first eight years, they didn't get out of the first round six times.

I think he knows history.

maybe they should have blew it up and got rid of Yzerman because he couldnt win.
...not like they needed to add Lidstrom and Federov, Fetisov, and Larionov (and Shanahan) etc etc to actually win the cup and have a ton of patience and a fair bit of luck too.
ironically it was the trade of 'star' offensive d-man Paul Coffey to get a top line, strong winger in Shanahan that put them over the top.
