I think the difference is tanev will die before letting the player or the puck get to the net

I would rather have that

Rielly and Tanev paired at the World Hockey championship previously. They were excellent together.

10 games, 7 years ago, against a lot of below NHL-level competition doesn't give me a ton of comfort.

I'm sure it would probably be fine. But there's still a bit of risk in "probably" and I don't see it as a huge impact move. The discussion is probably moot anyway. Calgary has so many players who seem to want out that they're probably trying to keep everyone else.

Pelech would be like getting slavin..

Incredibly smart sound defenceman
to be honest, I like Pelech more than i would Slavin
...Slavin is a great defender, but Pelech is also a mean and strong bugger who likes to punish players. as well as being very good on the defensive side.

Fair enough. So who would you target in a Nylander trade, if it’s with the Isles?

Yeah, as a couple other posteres have mentioned, I'd be going after Puloch. Maybe Dobson has higher upside with offensive potential, but the Leafs are contending now and need immediate help.

Yeah he does have that extra little oompf..

I would love him

Maybe by a hair. They've both been top defensive defensemen for the past few years. Fit is impossible to predict. We know Brodie plays well with Rielly. We think Tanev might.

Like sure, if Calgary wants to swap the two players straight up we'll take the right shot and $500k cap savings, but that's unlikely. I don't think it's a particularly impactful move and not something worth giving up a lot of assets for.
You can’t forget they played at the worlds together looked amazing might I add as the top pair

Tanev wouldn't cost us Nylander. I would imagine it would be a deal to bring Lindholm as the main piece. I think he'd be a perfect fit with Mo.

Pulock would be awesome but with us bringing in Klingberg, not sure that's our biggest need. I still think we need a Brodie replacement, as I don't have much faith in him for this coming season.

Pelech is another lefty and his partner Mayfield is 31 and signed for 6 more years.

Any Islanders deal involving Nylander must involve Pelech IMO. It would give us a really good physical shutdown pair with Pelech and McCabe as he can play his off side.

To Toronto: Adam Pelech + Oliver Wahlstrom
To Islanders: William Nylander

I’d do something like that.

heck Pelech and klingberg could be our top line, and move Reilly down to the 2nd pairing and maybe get some mismatches

Pelech's main partner is Pullock.

Mayfield plays with Romanov the most.

If you want someone for the right side, go for Pullock then, who is also excellent, even more physical than Pelech, and actually plays the right side in the Pelech-Pullock pairing.

Right. I was looking at the 21-22 usage. If I read the XG correctly for the last 2 years the defence seems worse with Pullock over Mayfield on the right side. I don't think he would give $6M value on the right side of Rielly even if he were available. The Isles do not seem to be a fit if RD is the goal.

How would everyone feel about a Nylander + Brodie + Jarnkrok for Pelech + Pageau + Wahlstrom trade ?

So our lineup would be.

Rielly - Lilly
Pelech -Klingberg
McCabe - Timmins
Gio

???

I’m not sure that’s ideal.

Also, why does NYI move a LHD, bring in a RD? Then they have four RD and two LD?

NYI moving Pelech seems extremely unlikely. He's their best LD, signed long term on a very good deal.

With Mayfield re-upped on the right and the continued development of Dobson the most likely to move seems like Pulock. He was still debatably their #1D last year but Dobson has taken his PP QB spot and Mayfield is there #1 PK option on the right side so there's some logic in moving Pulock.

Nylander extended for Wahlstrom and Pulock makes sense...he actually has a bomb of a shot and would make having 3 of Klingberg, Rielly and Pulock seem weird.

Terrible. We get a marginal upgrade on Brodie and suck offensively outside of Marner/Matthews

I hate how Serevelli's comment about the Leafs potentially buying him out has seemingly made all of HF boards forget that Brodie is actually a really good defensemen. Had a rough few weeks in the playoffs sure, but we give up 3 of the 4 best pieces in this teade easily.

Wonder if Red Wings would part with Walman for Brodie+.

He’d be a solid fit beside Klingberg, has some term at a reasonable cap hit and from Toronto.

Get a more veteran guy to play beside Seider or one of their young D. Maybe Brodie + Robertson ?

Seems like we should get some movement from the Leafs this week, Samsonov arbitration hearing is on Friday, and triggers the 2nd buyout window.

Personally not a fan of buying out Murray, having any sort of dead cap, especially when the cap is suppose to go up by 4m next season, and cutting that down in half for the cap penalty to Murray is not ideal.
