But but but we need Kane because our Top 6 didn’t score enough goals in the playoffs!

Meanwhile our bottom 6 was outstanding and the difference in many playoff games, that’s why we didn’t strengthen or improve it, and our D are such a bunch of studs we can’t even afford currently to sign a young LHD D man who factors into our future..

Instead we should keep riding our D corps with Gio, Brodie, and Muzzin, praying that they stay somewhat healthy for the entire season and the cakewalk that the playoffs are, and all-world defender Holl becomes Pronger V2.0 before our very eyes….

Factor in our all-world goaltending, and you have all the pieces in place to go all-in, leaving us with depleted prospects, including a potential top 6 power forward (who cares, we have Malgin!!!) and a top 4 RHD (who cares, we have Holl!!!!).

Who needs skilled young ELC affordable contracts and young talent that can plug in while we try to remain a top tier team…..

…… just so we can sign a 34 year old Kane and watch him walk for nothing as a UFA? Nah, he guarantees us at least a 1st round playoff win amiright????

How can you not be all over this amazing Kawhi like scenario????

This was fun to write! :)
Thats a legit problem though. Adding Kane would help there.
Not going to respond to the other points as those are just completely unnecessary.
If Kane comes at a reasonable price, you do it.

That's "Shallgren" isn't it?

While I admit the post was an over the top exaggeration, it doesn’t change that I simply don’t agree we are a Patrick Kane away from winning the Stanley Cup.

What do you consider a reasonable price to get him?

It all depends on the goaltending, if it's good than I think Kane makes sense.
I don't do trade values as I'm bad at them:laugh:
If it requires a couple top prospects than I'm out. Now consider Davidson's early trades haven't been all that great so don't know

If it shakes out like that then it definitely has its appeal.

I’m not as optimistic that our goaltending is where we need it and our support forwards are not improved upon.

Davidson has already asked for Knies in the Fleury talks previously, with Dubas shutting it down. That inspires some confidence at least….

I still think it’s much ado about nothing. I think Kane will be a Ranger.

I think Kane would help solve the bottom 6 issue

You run:

Matthews - Kane
Tavares - Marner

And put Nylander on the 3rd line. Let him run wild and play the role that Kessel did in Pittsburgh. It would lead to a lot more depth scoring and solve that issue

Nonetheless, I don't see a move like this happening for us

If I’m KD I go all in for Kane. My one stipulation, you do it now. Not at the trade deadline. And I’d be happy to pay for it. I feel like KD has the balls, and Kane can put us over the top.

3 Team Deal

To Toronto:
Patrick Kane (75% retained) - 2 teams

To Chicago:
2024 First
2025 First
Villeneuve/Abruzzese/Hirvonen
Sandin
Kerfoot (worth 3rd at the deadline).
Joey Anderson

To Third Team:
2023 Third

Essentially 3x 1st round picks, 2x 3rd round picks, NHL roster player worth another third rounder, Young NHL roster player.

Nylander-Matthews-Kane
Bunting-JT-Marner
Engvall-Kampf-Jarnkrok
Robertson-Gaudette/ZAR-NAK

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Giordano-Liljegren

Murray
Samsonov

Am I crazy? Is that too much, too little? I’m not 100% sure if the money works, but should be close.

All I know, that looks like a Stanley Cup championship team to me.

GLG!
So we are going to gut our team of future picks and prospects , when we don't even know how our goaltending is going to stand up.
I love Kane but let's see how our goaltending is going to pan out.

That's not a legitimate problem. I guess you missed the blatant sarcasm of that post.

Also, the price for Kane seems to be roughly a couple of 1sts +, which clearly isn't reasonable.

1st
Niemela
Cap (Kerfoot?)
1 of our 3rds

Probably something in that neighbourhood.

Chicago would flip Kerfoot and grab a 2nd most likely.

This deal couldn't happen today because of cap but maybe around TDL if we know our goaltending is good. Might also need to fix the D.

I think a couple 1st. round picks+ for a team like Rangers or Flames isn't unreasonable.

Leafs haven't earned tossing a couple 1st. round picks into the trash bin.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in here yet but on his podcast yesterday, Seravalli said the three teams seriously involved in Kane discussions are the Oilers, Rangers and Leafs.

He also mentioned that with Kane holding the cards (NTC/NMC), it seems more likely that this is an in-season move as Kane wants to start with the Blackhawks and see how it goes.

You mean with his two career NHL points heading into his D+4 year?

He's a 20 year old 2nd round pick that just scored 16 goals in 28 AHL games in what should have been his 1st AHL season if not for the pandemic wiping out his remaining OHL years.

He's pacing well for his age and draft slot. His early call-up in the CBJ series (due to having nowhere to play because of the pandemic) set unrealistic expectations for some.

Yes I agree we shouldn't be setting unrealistic expectations which people seem to be back on the train of.

He would not get us a first if we traded him just like kerfoot won't be getting us a second

You obviously misunderstood the post you quoted. The post stated he is out-producing some of the 1st round picks from his draft. It didn't say someone would pay a 1st for him.

Well at least this confirms Leafs are looking into Kane and that twitter account wasn't making it up.

Marner and Matthews are great together, but I imagine Matthews with Kane would be so freaking good.

I just don't know how the Leafs can make it work. It seems impossible, now or in season. Leafs will have almost no cap space during the season and I doubt they'll accrue nearly enough.

Yeah it would be tough for sure.

Is Connor Murphy still good? Swap him and Muzzin? Saves 1.2 in cap and gets us a RD? I truly have no idea if Murphy is good. Would he fit beside Rielly?

Just throwing shit out there.

Mathematically speaking, you could grab a Mayfield or Schenn for a RD addition, I couldn't make it work adding Tanev, so I doubt we could add Murphy. Murphy is still good.

In terms of Kane, he is possible to add at 50% retained.

I would put Matthews and Kane together, Matthews is strong enough defensively now to make up for Kane.

Marner with JT makes the 2nd line so much better and we know they're good together, a truly lethal top 6.

Nylander either moves down to 3rd line RW with Jarnkrok as the centre to rip up other teams bottom rip or could go LW with JT and Marner.

Nylander and something for Kane @50% would be an interesting move to say the least.

A lot of due diligence needed though

Do you think if Weegar signs an extension in Calgary, we could work out something with them around Andersson and Nylander?

Andersson would interest me if moving Nylander.

Kerfoot, Nylander, Holl
for
Andersson, Backlund

Leaves space to sign Sandin, and maybe someone like Milano.

3rd. line center role filled nicely with Backlund, Kampf 4th. line center.

Matthews
Tavares
Backlund
Kampf

Now who plays with Tavares on the 2nd. line?

Rielly-Andersson
Muzzin/Sandin-Liljegren
Giordano-TJ Brodie
