Robertson needs a good chance for us to really see what we have

If he isnt what we think toss him in a deal to improve in other areas

Kind of agree with this. Kerfy seems to be way more popular in the room when players talk about him and I could see him being a well liked Leaf by management.

He can be moved up and down the lineup. Is able to produce at even strength and can even play centre in a pinch. A guy with that ability has value to a team like the Leafs who will need hole pluggers as injuries hit other guys.

While I don't think the team has any plans to extension, if they were to trade him now, they'd be looking for a similar player at the tdl.... Which is why he's almost certainly going to get the 'own rental' treatment

I prefer "good Holl" over both but money is needed to sign Sandin. And I definitely prefer the asset of Sandin over the asset of "good Holl".

Holl is fine in his role, but I think he likely ends up the most expendable in terms.of shedding salary beacuse his replacements are already able to get in the lineup.

Plus he's been linked to actual trade rumors in the media before, unlike Kerfoot who just gets thrown into fan driven speculation

Holl has the similar issue to kerfoot in that if we traded him, we'd just be looking for a replacement at the deadline.

Not sure that is the case for Kerfoot as much as it is Holl.

Kerfoot, we have prospects. We have guys who can PK and play middle 6. Maybe they are not as good as him right now, but some are better fits for the roles he would be handling (Anderson) and others have more skill so if they figure it out, they will be better than him (Robertson, Malgin, etc.). So unless all of those options - and Knies - flop, we wouldn't need a Kerfoot replacement at the deadline.

If we trade Holl, we may have enough space to sign Sandin and maybe a guy like Stralman, Subban, or a guy currently on PTO like De Haan, Dronov, or Stone. I guess it is possible that those guys, plus Mete, Benn, Dahlstrom, etc., are enough but it is less likely than up front.

I think most would agree that Holl would be much easier to replace. If he isn't moved, once Sandin is aboard he'll be a scratch most nights anyway.

Holl is a low budget approximation of a big wingspan workhorse defenseman, but his play quality is probably closer to a very replaceable player. Ideally, this player type is a top 2 cornerstone on the blueline. In contrast to Sandin, we need Sandin’s youth, skill and upside, but his particular play style isn’t really required by the Leafs. Classic example of where our pipeline doesn’t match the big club roster.

Kerf we would need a quality middle 6 forward to replace, whereas Holl is an extra dman on this talented deep dcorps.

I don't think I'd be shocked if we add PK Subban to a min league deal for 1 year. Would that shock anyone here?
Me.
Seems like bringing a big personality into the room would be a bad idea.

Did the Rangers win the cup with Motte?

No.

This is ludicrous. lol
I'm just stating that there's a clear difference in quality between players that playoff teams want at the deadline, and those they want to get rid of. Motte is a playoff-type player while ZAR is not.

Maybe, but if they see see Lily as being to handle the top 4 right side duties, they team likely has enough guys to cover the bottom pairing without necessarily needing a tdl acquisition

I think it's something the team would have been more open to a couple seasons ago. This time around the front office seems to be looking more towards younger guys. But we'll wait and see. It's certainly not out of the realm of possibility

I like Motte. Good signing by Ottawa. Very similar mold to ZAR and NAK type players. Ottawa has a ton of cap this year so no reason to be afraid of overpaying a bit. He'll be a good player for them and if they're out of it at the deadline, he'll probably net them a pick at the deadline. Win-win.

I rather they give that ice time to Lilly and Sandin. Every year we get a veteran hoping for a miracle of some kind.

I'm sure there's a Marlie or two who could use some opportunity
