Would the Sharks even been interested in moving Reimer? Maybe before they moved Hill to the Knights, but not sure anymore....

Didn’t people send death threats to Reimer’s wife after the 2013-14 game 7?

I doubt he be thrilled to come back here with all the noise when we have fans harassing Dubas’ grandmother

Why does one of the big 4 NEED to be traded? Tavares is up soon and won’t re-sign anywhere close to his 11. You can keep all 4 and still reallocate the money at some point.
We shouldn't trade Matthews - any trade for one of the top players in the league will be for multiple lesser players.

We shouldn't trade Marner - he's good but overpaid enough that we'd have trouble getting value back.

We shouldn't trade Nylander - he's our best (non ELC) contract and an equivalent player would have a higher cap that we can't afford.

We only have this season plus two more before we can free up Tavares' $11M. That's probably the best plan.

A guy like Reimer would actually be perfect. But not sure he'd be interested in coming back

What about Joonas Korpisalo? At $1.3 million and a pending UFA. CBJ have started working in Daniil Tarasov into their rotation and Merzlikins is their long term guy.

Play the young guys

If they struggle we can do something but I think we should get a decent look at what's in house before we start moving assets

I'd like to know how long the two guys we have are likely to be out as well, if it's only a few weeks I think we can get through

You're implying that this had anything whatsoever with why he was traded. He continued to be a Toronto Maple Leaf and presumably wanted to continue being a Leaf. He was traded at a trade deadline to a contender during our rebuild trade deadline selloff. You're getting tiresome.

I doubt there's another player in the league available for that. The shortlist of those who we actually would may be single digits. It may actually make more sense to round out our depth with 2-3 quality pieces.
If Marner has a good game he can beat an entire team on his own. That trumps the well oiled machine approach.

What we need to do is leave the core alone and well oil machine the rest. Everyone knows my thoughts on the "rest" so I won't dive into that.

It's time to trade high on Bunting. Value decreasing day by day. What happened to him? Last season went to his head now he has Engvall syndrome and abandoned the game needed to be useful for us.

Am I only one saying to myself guarantee give away if Bunting is making a pass in o-zone?

I would look to do ufa for ufa swap, to a team that will re-sign him because of his age, for a player that makes more sense for our run this year. We can't risk bunting looking like 4th liner again in april

Are there any Engvall rumors? I can't imagine they are happy having his cap hit on the team anymore. We should free that up and develop a Steeves or equivalent or just accrue the cap space until a trade comes along for a nice depth piece. Rather have a Marlie up making mistakes, learning and getting better as the season progresses in contrast to Engvall, who is of the what you see is what you get when playoffs roll around.

Also where is Zeke lol. Not going to lie, this place sort of needs him around even if you fight with him most of the time.

Bunting still brings a lot of value with his intensity and intangibles. He hits, he's a rat and defends his teammates. We lack players like him. He's not scoring at the same clip and that's ok. He'll get hot at some point. Matthews and Marner are heating up, which means Bunting will heat up. Not sure why we're selling on a 0.5 PPG player 12 games in.

He's been on and off the block for awhile. I don't think the Leafs would mind trading him for a good deal if that comes up. He hasn't had the best start to the season but he's still a good PKer and should get better as the season goes along.

Did a quick look on cap-friendly for some goalies that might be attainable. Seeing as Matt Murray was described as "ways away" by Keefe just a couple days ago, and Samsonov has a knee injury which could be anywhere from day to day, to months long absence.

Aaron Dell (SJS) - Dell has had NHL success in the past, but recent seasons haven't been kind. Solid first 3 games to start off the year in the AHL, and was previously signed by the Leafs before being claimed off waivers at the end of camp. James Reimer certainly one of the most stable options, and would cost more. - and no, SJS won't trade Reimer, he's currently the Sharks starter.

Michael Hutchinson (VGK) - ;)

Anton Khudobin (DAL) - It's worth mentioning, in case DAL/TOR got a third team involved, but straight up likely isn't an option. Even if Dallas retained 50%, Khudobin would carry a cap hit of $1.667M, which isn't buriable when/if both Samsonov & Murray are healthy again. However, Khudobin has NHL experience, and is only 2 seasons removed from elite quality play. Would need to have double retention to be an option

Joonas Korpisalo (CBJ) - It's been a while since Korpisalo's 15-16 rookie season where he put up a .920 sv% in 31 appearances. At this point, he's a mid to low end backup. A pending UFA, and Columbus clearly running with Elvis/Tarasov as their tandem, Columbus likely would be okay allowing Korpisalo to get an opportunity elsewhere. It's not a great solution, but might be one of the more likely ones.

Cory Schneider (NYI) - This one is a bit of a whacky scenario to imagine, however Schneider had an extremely strong season in the AHL last year, and is off to a good start this year. There's obvious health concerns, and the Islanders GM isn't one for moving players to give them opportunities elsewhere - but it's not the biggest stretch in the world.

Louis Domingue (NYR) - For most of his career he's been a solid backup goalie. He's nothing special and can turn out .880 performances just as often as .910 performances. However he has a track record at the NHL level, which is what the Leafs need,

Dustin Tokarski (PIT) - Tokarski spent the last 2 seasons being second in command to Craig Anderson in Buffalo. This season through his first 6 games, he has a .945 for Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate.

Malcolm Subban (BUF) - Not much to say really. Subban is just okay. He was okay in Vegas, and okay in Chicago. He's likely fourth on the depth chart in Buffalo.

Magnus Hellberg (OTT) - Ottawa claimed Hellberg off of waivers earlier this year due to Cam Talbot going down with an injury. With Talbot back, the Leafs/Sens could hook up on another trade. With Artem Zub slated to possibly return next week anyway, Ottawa will likely be placing Hellberg on waivers regardless.

I would sign subban for the anthem singing alone.

Imagine he did it before the game and skated into the net?

Korpisalo is probably the best option, Hellberg probably the most realistic

He's (Engvall) looked better the past 2 games.
Maybe he's got the rust off, and/or maybe better linemates?

Bunting not sure what happened, hasn't looked good anywhere on the ice, although a kick pass worked yesterday. He was injured late last year, and looked bad in the playoffs coming off injury. Maybe it was more serious than thought?

I don't think he has the mind for the game to consistently create on his own, his wheelhouse is keeping skilled plays alive or finishing them off and his line hasn't been able to make those plays happen regularly.
