Interesting..wonder what the asking price is.

2.2 mil currently against the cap. Still an rfa after this season too

Yeah it's worth keeping an eye on. He's a pretty good 2-way defenseman, similar to Dermott, but probably not really someone that can play tough minutes consistently. Liljegren back soon means I'm not sure if Bear would be a better option than Holl though. I definitely wouldn't give up much either.

Kieffer Bellows is on the waivers...i wonder if we should take a shot at him.
This guy?

He has 24 games and six points at the NHL level over the past three years and he hasn’t shown any signs of furthering development. In fact, he looks worse this year than he ever has before as it appears like he’s skating with two cement blocks strapped to his feet.

Way too early, but I would like to see something like this next year.
Top 3 LW can swap based on whoever gels better. 3rd line is defensive. 4th line is some young players and a vet that shout f*** you when they play.

I think Soucy would be a good fit. We have to have 3 good defense pairings imo, we simply lack high end defense talent. I don't see a top pair D pair, and I don't see a bottom pairing one either.

LTIRing Murray [if necessary] and replacing with a ~2M goalie gives them 3M or so to upgrade where they see fit. need to take advantage of getting potentially two top 6 forwards for ELC money.

I dunno reclamation projects can be something but looking at cap prolly not good

Keifer Bellows on waivers. I wonder if an Engvall and Holl for Bellows and Mayfield could work. Or just straight up Engvall for Bellows which saves a million on the cap.
Bellows always seemed to have more potential than success. Mayfield would be a help.

The Leafs defensive results improved when their centre ice position became elite. Their defensemen are still mediocre.
The big question is Murray and Muzzin's LTIR standing over the long term.

I would never wish ill upon anyones career, but the fact is this team is much much better off with Murray and Muzzin on LTIR so we can have the 10+ million in cap. Think about all the possibilities.

and then secondly finding out how Samsonov holds up over the long term to know if we need a goalie or not.

100% agree.

It would be season altering (in a good way) if both didn't return. Muzzin had a great playoffs but he's going to kill our cap again if he's on and off again every 10 games, and honestly, he looked like a broken down horse to start the season. The man's body just didn't seem to do what he wanted it to.

He looked that way last year too. He was better in the playoffs than the regular season, but Tampa got the series winning goal mostly because he can’t skate anymore.

The best thing about the LTIR thing is we can use cap space in season now and not have to wait until deadline to acquire help on the backend long term and in top 6. 2 players can easily be acquired. Come playoff time both Muzzin and Murray become available without any cap ramifications.

Can almost guarantee Murray will be back within the next month. Not sure why people think he’s going to sit on LTIR all season long. Muzzin is a different story, he’s most likely done.

I think it's a little bit of the Mrazek effect as well as Murray being always on the IR. Who knows. Murray has been plagued by concussions and groin issues.

He seemed really good before he got injured, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But I will say, Samsonov is more than adequate to be the #1 regardless.

I'd like to see them take a shot with Bear....think it's hilarious he's considered a small dman . if he was literally 1 inch taller people would say that

Yeah I think he'd be worth the shot if Muzzin is out for a long time/season. But I think the Leafs will prefer going after a more experienced and role fitting defenseman. Liljegren should be back by next week, so is Bear better than someone like Holl for the role they'd play? I don't know about that one.

Samsonov has looked very good. He’s definitely living up to his potential as of right now. It’s really a great situation for both the Leafs and Samsonov. He has the opportunity to become the number 1 goalie here in Toronto for a very long time given he’s only 25.

Bear would make a very good 7/8/9 D man in our system, but that seems to be what he's trying to get away from. If our need is a replacement for Muzzin in the system, preferably a RHD version, I don't think Bear is that. He's not the shutdown, defensive D, physical body that I think we need. He's not a PK guy either, so if you are adding him to the lineup, my assumption is Holl comes out? Then who PK's? If it's not Holl, are we going to replace Brodie or Lilly with Bear? I'm not a fan of either of those roster moves.

He's a decent, low cost depth player, and at times in his career, he's been a reliable two way guy... I just question whether he has what we should be looking for, or we have the opportunities he is looking for.

Is he even any good? He certainly didn't look all that great when he was with the Oilers and you'd think that if he had talent and could play that people wouldn't be looking to get rid of him right now. Instead of going out and getting another body that doesn't move the needle much, I'd rather give some of our own prospects a few games in the NHL and see what they can do like Kral and anyone else who looks like they may be ready from the Marlies.

Who knows maybe one of our guys will surprise us and we won't have to go out and find someone.

So, according to Kypreos in today's star, Max Domi reached out to Dubas this off-season and offered to sign in Toronto for "much less" than the $3 million he signed for in Chicago.

Wondering if that was a mistake to pass on?

Interesting to say the least that Domi would want to sign here for less.....

Domi would be as good a fit according to this management group as Don Cherry, Nazem Kadri, Evander Kane and so on. Not surprised at all that they would pass. They will do anything to avoid controversy.

Domi wouldn’t be a bad addition. His defensive game though is terrible. There’s a reason why a lot of good teams passed on him as a free agent.
