If it actually comes to that, I would do it now but likely it won't. If your looking for a cheap but high reward option, Hoglander is a great choiceHoglander for Malgin?

We definitely need another 5'9" winger. That's the solution.
Hoglander for Malgin?
If we were to acquire Chychrun, I think multiple moves would need to happen in order for the deal to make sense.
He was on Seattle's first pairing last year before we traded for him (though it was clear that he's not that defenseman anymore), so I don't think having him on the second pairing is that big a deal, provided we give him a partner that isn't Holl.If Muzzin is out for long term (including the playoffs) are people comfortable with 39 year old Gio being on the 2nd pairing all year? That is a ton of ice time for an old guy.
Seattle isn't trading him. Nor, is he waivingWonder what oleksiak would cost?
I think he would waive for Toronto. He is from the area.Seattle isn't trading him. Nor, is he waiving
Although more difficult I think that you can use advanced stats in hockey as long as you have context, understand sample size, how outliers are treated, what's being omitted vs whats being captured etc. I do find the more advanced regression stats are often used incorrectly and/or have huge inherent errors associated with their calcs though. However to me more numbers are always better than less lolPlaying games with these numbers by attaching the same mode of measurement on checking/energy lines that they use on scoring lines is either disingenuous or foolish. It's almost like they are unwilling to recognize that the role for each line is different. It's a hopelessly simpleminded approach to a team sport. Attempt to apply this sort of metric across the lineup of a soccer team or a football team where roles are more specialized then we see how foolish it is.
IMO all of this advanced stats stuff started and should have mostly ended with baseball where matchups between pitchers and batters are largely (but not wholly) isolated events making comparisons between all players in all lineups mostly valid. Once it was brought over to the chaotic cauldrons of constantly switching and swapping matchups that take place during the course of games with other team sports like hockey and basketball, these sorts of measures become too complex to isolate and compare. So what they do is pretend that they're isolated when they are not.
About half the league could have been on Seattle's first pairing lol. But in seriousness that will have been over a year by the time playoffs come and older guys can fall off fast and suddenly. I'm not sure if he will have gas left in the tank for the playoffs if he is playing 2nd pairing matchup minutes all season long.He was on Seattle's first pairing last year before we traded for him (though it was clear that he's not that defenseman anymore), so I don't think having him on the second pairing is that big a deal, provided we give him a partner that isn't Holl.
He sits becuase he's a AAAA playerIt would take more than Malgin given Hoglander's age, but sure. Better than having Malgin sit unnecessarily.
Show us the list of players who are what we need and also available, then.
I don't want to waste the prime years of our core.
Chychrun can play RD or LD, and sure, he isn't ideal, but he adds mobility and puck movement to our D core, and most importantly - he might actually be available and isn't a rental.
I'd love to see what he can do in a better system. In Sarnia, he wasn't just an offensive D, he played good defence too.
Zub is the perfect acquisition, but I think Ottawa will do their best to re-sign himIf Ottawa falls out of the playoff race and can't re-sign Zub, he would be a great target. Only 2.5 AAV and he's 27, so still young enough that you can justify a long-term extension. Plays top-pair with Chabot, who's stylistically similar to Rielly. People have always wanted a Tanev-style partner for Rielly and I think Zub is the most realistic target.
Obviously not.Though a big red flag here is he's been available for a while and no other team has bitten - which means the asking price has got to be sky high.
Like I don't really want to pay 1st + Knies + Robertson (or more) at the moment.
I wouldn't mind taking a look at Vladislav Gavrikov out of Columbus. 26, UFA, $2.8 million.
If Muzzin is done, then it's time to swing big and get a replacement. I'd go hard after Chychrun, but if the price is insane then we can spend our money elsewhere.
I'd move Nylander to find an adequate Muzzin replacement, even if it means trading him one place and flipping most of that package elsewhere.

Love the player and should be a long term fixture in columbus BUT will have to see how much that gudbranson contract f***s things upVery solid D-man. I'd love to have him.
Agreed. Nylander is right behind Matthews on my untouchable list. People may disagree but I’d rather trade Marner than Nylander.I'd wait until Liljegren is back before going all out on a replacement.
You'd have to be insane to trade Nylander right now, no offence. I don't know why that has to happen.
To clarify my own stance, I don't think trades ever should be made based on momentary needs. We need a Muzzin replacement for Muzzin, we're already counting on Liljegren to man the right side. It took Dubas months to identify and negotiate the Muzzin trade the first time around. I assume a similar move this year would take just as long.I'd wait until Liljegren is back before going all out on a replacement.
