I don't think they can re-sign O'Reilly, unless he comes economically I'd hope they look at someone who they could retain for next year.

Holmberg needs more development before he's full-time 3rd. pairing, IMO.
This is a go for it year. They have expiring contracts coming up in the next couple years, starting with Dubas and they have the big-4 forwards after that, who will all be UFA and will get the chance to pick a spot. Dubas will want to earn a new deal and avoid being fired and winning a round or two would go a long way in being able to retain all of their top end talent. They have had a top-5 pace in points percentage all year long. They play in one of the toughest divisions in hockey with Boston and Tampa Bay and they may play them back to back in the playoffs. Each of these teams will be adding top players and they should try and keep pace. Unfortunately the market is mostly rentals, if you can't secure one of the top guys with term you still have to keep pace in the arms race. Being cheap is not the right move at this stage. They are adding a good a forward, it has to be one of the big boys because 5-10 teams are getting significantly better at forward this deadline.

Jeremy Rutherford mentions Barbashev's next contract would be in ball park of 4 mil x 4yrs. If thats the case, he's likely a rental if we trade for him.

Not sure even adding a ROR and leftovers it is enough.

Honestly I thought they’d get more for Horvat. Not too bad setting the market price. He was arguably the best player available.

Those thinking this sets the market for UFA forward rentals, Keep in mind with this trade, he was probably the best UFA forward being dealt at the trade deadline, and he doesn’t go to Boston which is a win for us.

In saying that, I’m going to assume Lou is gonna dish out an ugly contract for him after having a career year.

Former 1st round pick who hasn't been amazing, 2nd rounder in recent draft and a protected 1st equates to Liljegren, Robertson & a 1st.
Who is the 1st who hasn't been amazing? I need this answer for the blaok.

Not overly crazy about that deal for NYI unless they make the playoffs and/or re-sign Horvat. Acquiring Beauvillier makes sense for VAN if their intention is to retool rather than rebuild (two years younger than Horvat, and less time than that away from UFA status). I'd guess at there being both pros and cons for each team in this trade.

I wouldn't guage players on how they play against the Leafs. If we used this logic Josh Anderson would be the best player in the NHL.
I obviously don't, but Orielly is a very good player, and has always been better than foligno like some people keep comparing them.
