I like the idea of Kravtsov. Throw him with Holmberg and I think they can make some magic together this year, and hope they both take big strides into a bigger role next year. Both have great defensive numbers in a limited role too, but Holmberg's scoring could REALLY boost Kravtsov. Was a huge fan of him in the draft and New York is known to kill their prospects careers with poor management.

I still think my choices after Meier are Puljujarvi, Konecny, and Buchnevich. If we're going rental it's either ROR at max a 2nd+ or Kane if even cheaper than that. Not sure any other rental is even remotely interesting because I'm not paying a high pick for a Lafferty-type.

Engvall-Kampf-Puljujarvi
Kerfoot-Holmberg-Kravtsov

Makes us imo significantly better for what should be basically nothing. One of the best shutdown lines in the NHL on the "3rd" line with some scoring upside with Engvall/Puljuarvi (could easily rekindle the magic they had with Mikheyev) and a very defensively responsible "4th" line with some much larger offensive upside than the 3rd.

I think Holmberg has that unsung hero potential. I also can see he and Kravstov having some good chemistry and be 2/3rds of a solid 3rd line as early as next season.

If the Oilers trade for Karlsson and Dubas does his typical nonsense depth adds and says he believes in this group, I will for sure have a nervous breakdown.

seriously though, the Oilers problems are NOT in scoring, its in stopping other teams from scoring, Karlsson will not help them much in that regard, though maybe they can outscore enough deficiencies to go further... right now they are a wildcard team and 4th in their division. though that division sucks, but, i dont see them match up well vs Dallas/Vegas the rest mostly suck, and for whatever reason Winnipeg cant beat the Oilers

Dubas needs to get us past the real stanley cup contenders TB, Boston, and then Car/NYR ...then hope they arent too broken to get it done. Whichever team makes it out of the East is the favorite.
top team in the west is Dallas, and they would be a wildcard team in the East
 
I quietly wonder if Knies has as much value as we all think?

Would an acquiring team really want an unsigned College player? What if he held out?

This is bizarre. Is this just specific to Knies because some Leaf fans are being ridiculous because they don't think Knies would want to play on the league's marquee franchise with his idol, or is this a blanket statement about anyone drafted from college?

Depends what value are you referring?
Don’t think Knies can get Connor Bedard but he certainly is a center piece for any big deals involving top players.
 
Bringing in a LW with some term would also help replace Bunting if he walks or would give the leafs a little more leverage in that contract negotiations if they want to keep him.
 
Lots of people here have Kane written off, especially after last night’s game. I wonder how many people will still feel the same way, if he comes out against us in the next game and puts on a show?

If Kane’s hip is going to stop him from being able to play effectively, I don’t see why he would bother gutting it out all season. For the low return he’s going to get Chicago in a trade, it’s just wouldn’t be worth it for him or the Hawks organization.

Nah, I’m thinking that he’s just trying to stay healthy until he gets traded. If that ends up being to the Leafs, there’s no way in my mind, that he’s not going to turn it on and light it up!

It’s probably a thought about players drafted from college and then haven’t signed contracts.

Not me, I always try and keep an open mind.
I would love to see it as long as the Leafs still win of course.

Gio + Colin Blackwell. Decent but didn't get a LW for JT and Nylander who were struggling hard 5v5 at the time.
Foligno + trash. We all know how that turned out.

TDL has been a failure for Dubas.

Do you ever think with Thornton it was the speed/legs? I didn't think he was all that bad with the puck but if he ever lost it, he was slow AF and could never get it back.

Kane I don't think lost any of his talent and he's not slow. Has never been a strong defensive player but maybe makes a bit more effort in the right situation.

It would need to be a real low cost to get a guy like Kane though...if you spend a bit more and can get Meier...do that. I suspect NJD are landing Meier between now and the draft.

Gio was an excellent addition, no matter how one tries to spin it as a poor deadline. JT and Nylander have proven to work well both together at points and with others at points, there were other solutions available than acquiring a forward to try to prop the line up

The real negative with going after Kane is the cap hit. You need agressive retention just to get into the realm of Meier at full cap

Those aren't depth moves at all.

Foligno was one big disappointment for sure though.

I wasn’t comparing them as players just the impact they could bring. Kane if comes at a negligible cost is worth the gamble but I do think it’s a gamble.
