I have zero interest then.

Leafs have an abundance of players with size who refuses to use it. Stop getting players who to like to coast. Its probably why the Rangers want to get rid of him

Get some tenacity. Idk how all of Tampa's skilled players ended up being so gritty too
We’ll the hope is he refinds the grit he had in his game before he was drafted and also finds some of that untapped offensive potential

We're a team with Stanley Cup Aspirations. We have no time to waste on experiments. Let rebuilding teams take a chance.

We need to use assets to round out the team we have now and somehow beat Tampa

He’s apparently going to cost a mid round pick and has a league min contract as a pending rfa

I appreciate the obvious efforts you put into your posts, but having said that, I seldomly if ever agree with your point of view, so that we disagree here is not a surprise. I think you are inflating what can be realistically expected of Kane while diminishing what Comtois can bring and how he would be able to contribute.

I will leave it with we both want the same thing: for the Leafs to add an impactful player (ideally players) that is going to help us during a difficult and challenging Stanley Cup run. Kane brings too many questions, starting with if his body can even withstand the abuse a Cup run would bring.

Side note: putting things like "you are killing me" when you disagree with someone doesn't add anything to what you've posted, and only decreases my interest to respond and takes away from the point you are trying make. Disagree but leave the dramatic effect and keep it hockey talk. 👍

So exemple you had the chance to get a matthews, you didn't because of some small medical issues? Because thats exavtly what it is with kane ???

I will give you an other exwmple, kahwi leonhard when raptors made a deal for it and goes all in ... he had medical issues but they took the risk and they did it...

Matthews having right now his worst since in keefe era...his second worst was the 1st one keefe jump in and also played with nylander big part of the season... if you dont take any risk in your life, you will never the result coming with...

So just imagine matthews get the playmaker and make him look better and still able to keep marner with tavares
And you add a line with nylander kerfoot and a jarnkrok you can punish the other 3rd pairing? And get the best of everyone

This seems to be a common misconception here and maybe the reason for the anti-Kane sentiment.

There won't be a bidding war for him - he'll choose a place and Chi will get what they can. His price will be similar to Taylor Hall - a 2nd and a marginal player or prospect (ie Engval).

Off course Meier would be a much better get, but we're talking Knies, 1st + for Meier.
Hall is quite the outlier in that regard - you could say that about any quality veteran with a NTC, but they typically do go for high value.

Additionally, Chicago trading Kane (been there ~15 years, won 3 Cups, etc) vs Buffalo trading Hall after like 30 games or whatever - I think Chicago feels like they need a trade return to justify moving a guy with that kind of legacy. I don't see them doing it for a 2nd + B-prospect, especially factoring in double retention requirements with a third team.

I understand the potential there, but Im not sold.

Gerard Gallant is a coach who loves to see competitiveness and tenacity from all his players (Skilled players included). If he didn't see a fit with Kravtsov, that mean's he doesn't have the drive and is too vanilla

You mean the old school stubborn coach who never gives young players a leash?

Kravstov is a guy who's future really is dependent on his work ethic. He should become a top six guy, and I think the offense will come for him, but he isn't physically mature, or strong enough to play the way he did in the KHL, in the NHL. He needs more development, and he needs to work on the weights extensively in the offseason... if he does, you've got a player. I think they'll move him in the offseason. Some problems, he wouldn't report to the AHL, and he's no longer waiver exempt. I'd take a chance on him in the offseason, if you can talk with him, and he's willing to work with your trainers off season, but he's not going to help us this year.

I think we need to add two forwards. 2LW and 3C are both positions of need IMO. One can be a rental and one should be with term. I think it would be better to get a rental 2LW and a 3C with term. Kampf is a good defensive player but if we want scoring depth we should add a 3C with some offensive punch. Preferably a physical one like Jenner or Laughton. If we do go the rental route I guess I'm ok with Barbashev but not overly thrilled with Ivans game. Going to have to move Kerf out to make space for these guys.

The defense is fine as is.

I've heard a couple of pundits mentioning double retention, but I'm a bit confused as to why. If Chicago does a full 50% retain, Kane's contract is 5.25mil. That fits comfortably into Muzzin's LTIR allotment. Plus we have a few spare parts with Engval (2.2mil) and Kerfoot (3.5 mil) to free up more room without paying for double retention.

We'll have to see what Kane brings back but I really am quite certain it won't be more than a 2nd+small piece. I would not want to move a 1st++ for him either.

While you could be correct don't you think last night would have been a night to show interest particularly when there are questions about your health?

Not really - his team got scored on in the first 9 seconds of the game. If it it were me I'd be so annoyed that a team I want to go to is destroying my team and nothing I do will close this gap. It's just another meaningless game for him. He doesn't need to audition - he knows his value. If the health issues were really of concern - he wouldn't be playing

Regardless - I'd expect maybe more effort against the Rangers but no game for that

One low-key name I can see Dubas acquiring is Morgan Frost. Plays with speed, solid two-way game, provides some secondary scoring, former Soo (if that really matters lol), etc. Should take a ton of assets to acquire either.

Bunting - Matthews - Kane
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Marner
Knies - ROR - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - Holmberg

Cap be damned lol

Not actually suggesting, more messing around

He can skate which is a prerequisite for any success under Keefe. If that is the cost with that cap hit he doesn't prevent them from making a real move. If there are real issues they will do their due diligence. I don't expect it but I would be fine with this get.

How old was Kawhi when they made that trade? Was he 34? Also, one single basketball player can have a significant impact on the outcome of a game more than any single hockey player can, so you already are not comparing apples to apples here. We've seen single basketball players transcend their sports and carry their teams to championships. Hockey, not so much...

Are you really comparing what an in his prime Matthews has to offer vs what a 34 year old Kane does, now and in the future? If you are, then I think you are looking at Kane of the past vs what he is now.

We will disagree and I am leaving it at this. I want something better than 34 year old Kane. Give me Kane from 3 years ago, and it's a different story.

Kane had 92 points last year. He looks lazy and unmotivated this year, hes not that slow when actually trying. His vision and puck handling and shooting is still top tier. Look at Kucherov, the guy barely trys out there he just coasts and makes plays, Kane can do the same, he just needs players to play with. I would play hardball with Chicago though to try and minimize the assets we would give up.

I don't think that's a low-key name to them; he's a young former 1st round pick on a crappy rebuilding team - he'll come at a big premium as they need to keep and develop him

He certainly didn't look annoyed, he looked like he's waiting for the season to end.

It doesn't matter if he knows his value, it's what he shows his value to be. If he comes cheap, the cap works and he it doesn't mess up any other deal, sure take a chance. IMO, if he is a primary target for this deadline, that is a very risky move.
