That would be the likeliest choice but I don't think it would be the right one.
Nylander takes really short shifts. I like the idea of Kane and Knies in the lineup and the option of double shifting Nylander into the third line.

If they acquire someone like Kane or Meier, they will 100% use 5 forwards on a PP again. It's very much a thing.
I like that they tried it but personally not a fan.

When was the last time they used it?

A couple weeks ago, before the all-star break I believe.
Yeah, I think the break has thrown me off. It seems like a long time ago and I don't recall it being overly successful.
Good chance the shorthanded goals/chances are what I remembering and not the success though.

Is 5 forwards still a thing? I didn't think they were using it any more.

I hope not. We've had what 2? 3? shorties scored against us while trying the 5-FF PP? It doesn't even make a lot of sense if you're replacing one D who cannot tee up one timers with a forward who can't tee up one timers.

What I love about Willie is that he's developing a vicious one timer - it's great to see. Timmins is another who has a decent shot, Sandin ditto. Those are the guys who IMO should be playing the point on the PP.

I think as early as next year that will be Timmins spot. Big shot has been missing for too long.

Honestly, I do not understand why Kane is someone we would think about, and I don't need yesterday's pitiful display to come to that conclusion.

This team came very close to beating Tampa last season, and we are a better team than last season. Kane is washed and he brings too many question marks for the Leafs to take any risks. Dubas has no margin for error, nor should we be taking this kind of risk for what Kane has previously done vs what he can do now. It simply isn't good enough and the fact that the NYR didn't even bother with him should be relevant here.

This is our time, and if we are going to do it, do it with someone who has no question marks, and Kane is FULL of them. Simply put, we can't #uck this up.

Want the home run? Go for Meier, and hope that Pridham and the gang can figure out a way to keep Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Meier. Taking Meier, giving up a butt-load of picks, prospects, and players for him, and then losing Nylander because you can't sign them all is NOT progress nor is it helping us challenge for years to come.

As sexy as Meier would look (he would be incredible), I don't want to blow our brains out to get him and lose some very significant pieces in the process, and there is no doubt whoever gets him will have to overpay to do it.

I am all aboard the Comtois train from Anaheim. Big player who needs a change, can finish and is trending in the right direction, while also not shredding our depth to get him and still leaves us room and cap to bring in more depth for our Top 6, be it from St. Louis or a bundle package to get Adam Henrique.

I think we should feel pretty comfortable with our Defence and it's depth. Benn plays playoff hockey, and is a viable option if Sandin struggles. Holl is fine in the Top 6 and Timmins is deserving more ice time to show what he can do. If there is a chance to improve our D with someone like Peeke then I'm good with it, but throwing assets at sexy names like Gavrikov and McCabe just doesn't get us there, and they don't improve us enough to merit the cost it take to get them.

We are in a very strong position to go beyond anything we've done in the playoffs the last 6 years. Why we would want to "add" to our team a player with a bunch of serious question marks like Kane is just beyond me. If we really want to bring in someone who is a mystery package, I would look at ROR way before Kane. At least ROR, if he is playing the way he can, brings us a player who is more versatile, knows how to defend, and fill multiple holes for us in our lineup.

Honestly, I think we would be very stupid to bring in Kane and expect him to be a difference maker. It's just not what we need and would be an extremely underwhelming acquisition that leaves us going into the playoffs with more questions than we already have now.........

So the best way to improve the leafs if getting a kerfoot with higher scoring ability but weaker playmaking ability, and better on faceoff and the rest of their game look similar... and get a player whos maybe not enough good to get a roster spor unstead to get a game changer who can play at the same level of marner offensivly...but youconsiderate too risky because hes playing with favorite team to finish last before the start of last season and only producing for a 60 pts pace in a terrible team with domi and anasthasiou on 1st line... ans a player who will be fine to resign with a discount but hell no its too risky

Sure youre killing me... i just sont understand hate against kane... no body available raise as much chance of leafs to win cup than kane... he want to play in toronto (probably resign too) and leafs will not to drastically overpaid in a bidding war...

Timmins = the new Franson better mobility though but takes more penalties lol.
He does seem to take the clumsy type penalties, like the high stick last night.

Anyone saying Kane would be an awful add will be eating crow once he's on a contender. It's obvious he was just coasting and disinterested in playing hockey for a bottom feeder AHL level team yday.
While you could be correct don't you think last night would have been a night to show interest particularly when there are questions about your health?

1 great > 2 solid IMO.

I've always believed, if you have the players for it, you stack one unit and they play the full 2 minutes.

You guys really want another useless player like Watson or another 4th line player that doesn’t move the needle for us.

I'm interested with guys like Watson and what they could bring to the Leafs line-up, similar to what Clifford and Simmonds had a couple years back.

But the same guys that I've liked and thought they could bring another element, essentially hurt the team with the amount of penalties they took.

I can't see Dubas doing that.

Not the sexiest name out there, and likely not a difference maker but:

Some untapped potential there, size, might be a decent bottom 6 add with potential to play higher.

he doesn't seem play a physical game for his size. is he like a JVR type big man?

I appreciate the obvious efforts you put into your posts, but having said that, I seldomly if ever agree with your point of view, so that we disagree here is not a surprise. I think you are inflating what can be realistically expected of Kane while diminishing what Comtois can bring and how he would be able to contribute.

I will leave it with we both want the same thing: for the Leafs to add an impactful player (ideally players) that is going to help us during a difficult and challenging Stanley Cup run. Kane brings too many questions, starting with if his body can even withstand the abuse a Cup run would bring.

Side note: putting things like "you are killing me" when you disagree with someone doesn't add anything to what you've posted, and only decreases my interest to respond and takes away from the point you are trying make. Disagree but leave the dramatic effect and keep it hockey talk. 👍

Similar, but much better defensively. Used his weight a lot more in the Russian leagues but seems to have lost that part of his game in the NHL. Good straight line speed but not the most mobile laterally. Has been good defensively at the nhl level, but leaves a lot to be desired offensively. Essentially his base is an Engvall replacement but has the potential to be a lot more.

I have zero interest then.

Leafs have an abundance of players with size who refuses to use it. Stop getting players who to like to coast. Its probably why the Rangers want to get rid of him

Get some tenacity. Idk how all of Tampa's skilled players ended up being so gritty too
