how credible is Carlo though? Leafs also said they wouldn't move premium assets for a rental but this could be the exception.
Would we really have to move premium assets if he only wants to be traded here or NYR?how credible is Carlo though? Leafs also said they wouldn't move premium assets for a rental but this could be the exception.

No team is going to retain for 8 years, much less on purpose.Thinking outside the box for a moment. But I wonder if it would ever be possible for a team like San Jose to re-sign Meier to a contract and immediately sign and trade him to Toronto with a % retention on the new contract? That would instantaneously create so much value for the team trading for the asset.
Depends on if the Blackhawks want to do right by Patrick Kane. Giroux had a full NTC, and wanted to go to Florida, and the return was a 1st/3rd/Tippet (even though he’s been a flop of a 1st round pick)Would we really have to move premium assets if he only wants to be traded here or NYR?
Not to strong arm them, but look at the Hall to Boston deal for a reference.

Nope. The Leafs are arguably in the best cap situation of any contending team in the league and analysts (and HFboards) will have you believe we've been mismanaging the cap for years.I was just checking out capfriendly and the leafs have 2 players signed in 3 years from now. Is that normal?

But he's not really a rental. We can trade him for a nice package or just keep himArguably Leaf's best two prospects + a 1st for a rental? That's mental.
The difference was also that Giroux was/is still an elite player. Kane's had an insane decrease in *everything* the last 2 years and is currently a former shell of himself who's injury might prevent him from even being a productive 1-dimensional scorer lower in the lineup. How's he going to look beside Kerfoot and on 2PP?Depends on if the Blackhawks want to do right by Patrick Kane. If they don’t really care about the return and want to trade him to a team of his choice then you could strongarm them.
Even at 50% the amount I'd give up for Kane would be almost nothing. Mid-round pick and a 3rd tier prospect like Kral.
Definitely credible, he would have friends throughout the league.how credible is Carlo though? Leafs also said they wouldn't move premium assets for a rental but this could be the exception.
That makes no sense given what Tank went for and Kane requires more money to be retained. Hell Foligno got a 1st and 2 4ths.I wouldn't offer more than what Leafs offered to get Giordano. That would be my absolute limit with retention, basically a 2nd round pick and likely a Kral level prospect.
Not because he's not worth it per say, but I think the Leafs needs are different.

When Dubas realized he was going to have to figure out extensions for the big-3 he structured or acquired every big supporting deal (besides Rielly) so that we'd have large sums coming off the same year to ensure we have the money to extend them.

He had 92 points last season, the difference from this year and last year is he went from playing with DeBrincatt who can actually score goals and Strome to playing with Tyler Johnson and a tanking Blackhawks team. The difference was also that Giroux was/is still an elite player. It's excellent cap management.Having nobody under contract is not good cap management.
Uh, no. It's perfect cap management. You literally have the ability to do anything you want to structure your team the way you want.Having nobody under contract is not good cap management.
I agree. I think we would get him cheaper like the Panthers got Giroux but a 2nd + Kral seems too good to be true IMO. Kane would be one hell of an addition, guess the cost would come down to who blinks first. The Leafs wanting him knowing what an impact he could make and how cheap they want him and how much the Hawks want to save a few bucks. If another team does, it's their thing. I said I wouldn't. Giordano also had a 1st round pick ask before the Leafs got him for a lot less.
Kane has a full NMC and can chose the team to go to. If hypothetically he wants to go to Toronto and nowhere else, Chicago will likely make it work.

Put Patrick Kane one of the best play makers beside 34 and I have a feeling he will be just fine. As for the injury I’ll take it from him that’s it’s been overblown.
If Toronto does get Kane, a top six of Bunting / Matthews / Kane and Nylander / Tavares / Marner would be a pretty elite top 6.
how much was that? I can't even remember. Ideally we only move out like a 2nd and a prospect for him but he's good enough that I would be fine including a 1st ( not much else included though) for himWould we really have to move premium assets if he only wants to be traded here or NYR?

That’s kinda what I was thinking. And if there was a third team involved for more salary retention, I’m wondering if it would be at all possible to get Kane AND Meier? I know… pipe dream! If the two teams Patrick Kane would waive his NMC are Toronto and the Rangers, and with the Rangers now being out of the mix… You’d probably be able to acquire Kane on a pretty darn reasonable trade with the Hawks.
