It's a stupid idea, and Friedman is clickbait.

Who in their right mind would trade for that $7 million defensive disaster, and then pay through the teeth for retention just to fit him in?

Just a dumb idea on all fronts. JVR absolutely sucks.

I think the Flyers would have to pay someone for the retention.

Flyers would just be getting something of value at the end of the transaction.

Isn't JvR more than anything a dump, and probably someone who drives his idiot coach crazy?

At the deadline how much cash are we talking?

I'd be fine moving Knies in a package deal for a true power-forward with term.

Is Crouse really a power-forward? Maybe on his way, there is risk with him. Career high 20 goals and 34 points? Well, staying healthy is part of the requirement isn't it? Maybe you do Knies and a prospect. Coyotes are looking for marketing their team right? Born Oct 17 2002 -- Phoenix, AZ. That's worth more to a team that has to sell their game then some middling wannabee power-forward with a no real history of being the guy. Who ever take Crouse is taking risk. Just not sure you can rely on him. Also risk in getting a 6'3", 220 lbs. Hobey Baker candidate. There are good odds this could be a win-win trade, win-lose trade, lose-lose trade.

From the Coyotes take Bjugstad, same amount of time PK as Crouse for Kerfoot and a prospect that has a good chance to become a bottom 6 player. Kerfoot going out gives some cap space, and the prospect gives another contract spot.

Pay whatever it takes for Chychrun. Having a point shot on our PP in the playoffs will do wonders.

If the Coyotes are looking to move Crouse (and I highly doubt they are), a deal in the off-season is more sensible than the deadline

It probably can be done with more thought in the summer, however you can probably wring more out of teams when they're getting him for another playoffs run.

OTOH maybe in the summer you have 31 teams in a bidding war?

I just think bigger mistakes can happen now, when you might have the Bruins, Leafs, Rangers, Kraken, Devils, ... thinking he might be a huge plus in the playoffs.

I love how people who have zero inside knowledge of anything continually roast people who actually sometimes do, because they don’t like their musings. It’s the most social media thing ever.

We only wish it was only happening in sports!!!!!!!!!!!

The cat lady becomes a MD and expert on all things medical, and has 1 billion followers ...

Anyway, it really is about making money, and if you can get the herd of lemmings to follow you over the cliff, well done.

You’re right it’s everywhere.

Would be sick if we reacquired JvR. Would be less sick if we acquired JVR along with Barbashev. JVR while may be cheap, is still the same player as when he left here, soft and terrible in his own end.

If you’re going to go for it, get the best possible player out there, this has been Toronto major problem is they waste assets in previous years on mediocre players.

Yeah for sure...

Leafs will have nobody to put against kucherov line but everything is alright, they would have a guy to take long shot against vasilevskiy and hoping he was able to beat the best goalie of the world with long shot... for sure it what leafs missing to beat tampa and vasilevskiy

JVR seems like making a move for the sake of it.. not strong defensively, and probably doesn’t provide much more offense than Jarnkrok does at this point. Plus he’s not that physically imposing or tough to play against.

It would have to be 75% retention (double) and pretty cheap in picks to make sense.

He's regressed a lot and his big strength was the PP. He wouldn't even get that here. He can still score in bunches though and he could be a good veteran... but yeah, I think the Leafs need to do much better and they can do much better.

Just like the Lafferty hysteria, this feels like a PR move from his agent.

So put you in the camp that there are no untouchables?

How much would you give up for Konecny?

I wouldn’t even give up draft picks for JVR. We’re already short on picks as is. I’d rather give up some long shot prospect(s) and if Philly doesn’t want that, well then we don’t want JVR.

I would think Flyers would be happy if they ended up with something for James.

They can just let the season run out, so they aren't paying to move him.

They aren't losing on the deal, so something like a Leafs' prospect to a third team, and a Leafs prospect to the Flyers for JvR. Prospects that probably don't fit anywhere in the Leafs future. (And they all end up as 30 goal scorers.)

If leafs dont want to pay a legit price, arizona will keep it simple as this... maybe it will be be as high than 2 1st but would be close.

Its not arizona who want to trade Crouse but leafs fan who want him
It’s not a legit price though. I understand that one GM paid that but others won’t. Crazy trades have happened but the Hagel trade isn’t the standard.

Also, we don’t know if Arizona wants to trade him or not.

Hard pass for me on JVR. He’s redundant on our PP with JT in that spot and he’s a defensive liability 5 v 5, hardly ideal for our top 6/9. Our top six needs another digger, hard on the forecheck, to augment the talent of the other two. JVR has finish, so I get the intrigue, but I see us hemmed in our zone with him there and team like Boston will eat him alive.

A team can no longer include a condition in a trade that would send further compensation if a player is re-signed.

He's a very good player, but is he what we need? Another RW, smaller guy.. though he plays bigger.... does he really make us harder to play against?

When we could be harder to play against, when we could use a 3C, when we could use a D upgrade.... I think Konecny is a great player, but more of a want, than a need... I don't think he adds balance to a team... just more of what we have already.

I believe he can play left or right, but I was thinking more 3rd. line to add some punch there.
Leafs are a 2 line attack, 2 line defend and hold-on line team.

This team really doesn't need 3 big pieces like that.

And Philly will want a lot more for Laughton. They love him there and he's signed to a decent deal for awhile. People won't like what they will want for him at the deadline. Just like Columbus and Jenner, they really have no incentive or need to give him away for a 2nd and B level prospects.
