Hagel has 41 pts in 48 games, and his contract is $1.5 million

Crouse has 28 points in 45 games, and his cap hit is nearly 3 times higher at $4.3 million for longer.

They are in no way in the same bracket as players, and that's before adding in the tripling of the cap hit.

That's a swing and a miss IMO.

Hagel had 37 points (21 goal )in 55 game before being traded

Crouse 28 points (16goal) in 45 game
Pace of 20 goal and 34 points in 55 game

Pretty similar yes, and like i said he's more physical and better in the defensive end...

Arizona dont need to trade crouse at all...if team want him, they will not give him for pratically nothing

Agreed.

Tampa and Boston get all the love, followed by Carolina and Toronto, but I think the NYR and NJD are very dangerous teams to sleep on.

Gallant took VGK a freakin' rookie franchise in its first year to teh cup finals. Anyone sleeping on NYR especially with their goaltending is well..... :shakehead

Just my personal opinion, but I think the Leafs have clarity on Muzzin's situation. They just haven't communicated it to the rest of the world.

Yep. Especially if they consider potentially alternatives moved with him this offseason (ie a potential trade or continued LTIR). I doubt it's ever announced until they have a plan in place

In a hard cap world, a player potentially bringing in top 6 value at an ELC level is so valuable.

Bunting is a really valuable piece over the last two years for the same reason.

Yes but the point the guy was trying to make was that his floor is much lower than middle-6 forward. There have been plenty of guys who've looked similar to him in NCAA and completely flopped at the NHL level.

I love the kid, but a NCAA prospect is never “untouchable” in my mind. It’s a weird league to confidently extrapolate to NHL effectiveness.
Well I agree to a certain extent but i read posters willing to give up 2 firsts or our best prospects to get a player with grit for a bigger cap hit.

We complain we are soft and need a power forward yet want to trade our best prospect that uses his size exactly what we need and that prospect actually has great hockey IQ and soft hands.

Let’s look at ncaa players who are successful in the nhl
Makar fox mcavoy hellebuyck eichel Hughes Gaudreau pacioretty
Caufield swayman plus many more.

Knies and minten to me would be the two most important prospects
That I would not trade

It's so obvious he's going to the NYR it's anti-climatic..... and I will be relieved when it happens so I don't have to keep reading trade proposals that throw everything at him like he was 25 years old again and on a contract with term.
My sleeper prediction is Patty Kane ends up in Boston at the trade deadline.

Every prospect could flop, so that's a very odd argument to use.
You are setting expectations of flop to convince yourself to use him in a trade IMO.

He's nominated for the Hobey Baker. 3rd in the country in goals.

Not sure why the putting him down. His floor is most likely middle 6. He's 20 and is 6'3". 220 with puck skills, size, and not afraid of contact. That's a very good profile, and trading him for higher paid players means you have to find lower paid players to fill out the rest of the roster.....kinda like what Knies would be if he wasn't wasted in a trade.

His skillset also fits a need for the big club .. So you toss in the potential he's shown with that.. And yeah he should be the last piece considered in a move. There are few trades that make sene.

Could be an interesting redemption player if they suck up some salary?

I thought the issue is that Vrana is really out of game shape since coming out of the player assistance program .. so a pass from me.

But an off-season bargain signing opportunity? I'm very interested.

Edit - looks like after a slow start in the AHL he's heated up with 6 goals in his last 8 games .. interesting. Yzerman seems to have soured on him for some reason. Wonder what the behind the scenes issues are.

Yeah he is ripping up the AHL right now and has displayed that talent in bursts at the NHL level but I would definitely think of him as an off season acquisition.

Especially if hes bought out.

But Toronto obviously has some of the best facilities in the NHL and maybe being around a guy like Dicky Clune would be nice additions for his personal life as well

While Crouse is a fine player, he also has a career 28 point pace. It's honestly wouldn't be out of the question that Knies has that level as a rookie-sophmore player. Maybe even better.

In fairness he is trending up. 34 points and 20 goals last year in 65 games .. this year he's already at 16 goals and 28 points in 45 games .. but he's shooting 19% (shot 15% last year) which is way above his career average. But how does that translate to a better team like the Leafs? Who knows, chemistry and ice time is big.

I'm not keen on trading Knies for him but I might consider alternative packages. I just don't know why Arizona would trade him now. There hasn't been any indication he's available... seems like a fabrication of want from this board.

Well that depends, are they willing to swallow half for a year and give up an asset or two (3rd + 7th, type shit)?
Taking a flyer on him for 2.6ish for a year wouldnt be a massive risk.
Therein lies the tricky part. He's already cleared waivers. Would DET be looking to make somewhat of a hockey deal out of it if they were to retain the full 50%? Buying out the contract would leave them with a lesser cap hit (but spread out over two seasons). Since fewer roster spots exist for a goalie in comparison to a winger, I'm not sure if the Wings would be willing to trade him for a loss like Ottawa was with Murray?
