Lawson Crouse will be 26 in June. By the time Arizona is competitive he will have passed his peak. Knies offers a more realistic time frame for the team's potential, and being local would help market the team to the fan base. Crouse today is the better player and would help the Leafs this year and next more than Knies.
Bjugstad is also a player of interest to me.
Jakob Chychrun is a fine player, but in his 7th year as a Yote he has yet to pass 68 games played in a season. His durability is in question, or should be. Over the last two years he's scored 2 more PP goals than Rielly, has 3 assists on the PP compared to Rielly's 30, has 7 PP points in total to Morgan's 32, and offers a PPP/60 of 2.241 v MR's 5.574. Of course it's obvious that Rielly is playing with better players. But, I'd ask if Jakob is going to add so much more by playing with the Leafs as compared to what Rielly offers, outside of his shot on the PP? And that's simply a player by player comparison on the PP, not including the cost of acquiring Chychrun. I'd also ask if we have somebody on our team who does have a more threatening shot than Rielly, and who also offers some passing ability...Liljegren? I'd be very interested in seeing if TL's shot from the point helped our PP before giving up a 1st and Sandin + to gain the uncertain advantages (total gains) that JC would provide over Rielly on the PP. To add, Chychrun is not a defensive gem.
If you're going to package Sandin and our 1st, I'd be looking to acquire a player who can more obviously upgrade a need.
