Lawson Crouse will be 26 in June. By the time Arizona is competitive he will have passed his peak. Knies offers a more realistic time frame for the team's potential, and being local would help market the team to the fan base. Crouse today is the better player and would help the Leafs this year and next more than Knies.
Bjugstad is also a player of interest to me.

Jakob Chychrun is a fine player, but in his 7th year as a Yote he has yet to pass 68 games played in a season. His durability is in question, or should be. Over the last two years he's scored 2 more PP goals than Rielly, has 3 assists on the PP compared to Rielly's 30, has 7 PP points in total to Morgan's 32, and offers a PPP/60 of 2.241 v MR's 5.574. Of course it's obvious that Rielly is playing with better players. But, I'd ask if Jakob is going to add so much more by playing with the Leafs as compared to what Rielly offers, outside of his shot on the PP? And that's simply a player by player comparison on the PP, not including the cost of acquiring Chychrun. I'd also ask if we have somebody on our team who does have a more threatening shot than Rielly, and who also offers some passing ability...Liljegren? I'd be very interested in seeing if TL's shot from the point helped our PP before giving up a 1st and Sandin + to gain the uncertain advantages (total gains) that JC would provide over Rielly on the PP. To add, Chychrun is not a defensive gem.

If you're going to package Sandin and our 1st, I'd be looking to acquire a player who can more obviously upgrade a need.

Chychrun with two goals
Folks on here critical of rielly defensive ability why not get chychrun, trade rielly
We save 3/4 million in cap
Finally have a point shot on powerplay

Rielly isn't going anywhere. Definitely, he isn't accepting a trade to Arizona!

Maybe, just maybe Rielly to Vancouver, OEL to Arizona, Chychrun to Toronto. :sarcasm:

It saying rielly to arizona
Just a add crouse in a trade and remove rielly in a trade
We get younger with more points and better cap hit
I love rielly and I wouldn’t move him but by what some say here chychrun and rielly are similar players, why not make the trades and help the cap situation

Riellyhas a NMC, he won't, and isn't going anywhere.

A blockbuster at this point would be something I'd strongly consider... in regards to the proposals seen in the last few pages:

Hayton <-> Robertson
Crouse <-> Kerfoot, Niemelä
Chychrun <-> 1st '23 or 1st '24 (which ever preferred by Arizona), Sandin, Hirvonen/Voit/Abruzzese (again, which ever preferred by Arizona)

Something along those lines. This would drop Jarnkrok a bit lower in the line-up, which would improve our bottom six significantly, and we still have Knies coming in.

William Carrier was talked about a few pages back, he has always caught my eye when playing Vegas, would be a ridiculously effective bottom sixer, and a big upgrade on ZAR/McMann.

Rielly is here for 8 years. Period. The end. Let's just let it die.

Thats a pretty big defensive dropoff from Jarnkrok. It goes from a good all-around line to an offensive one that needs to be sheltered.
It's a stupid idea, and Friedman is clickbait.

Who in their right mind would trade for that $7 million defensive disaster, and then pay through the teeth for retention just to fit him in?

Just a dumb idea on all fronts. JVR absolutely sucks.

I don't think he'll cost that much at all to be honest, and he's a UFA.

If you were Rielly would you trade yourself to the Coyotes?
Rielly has a full NMC until 2028-2029 season.
Only Rielly can trade Rielly.

Yes hes one of their best players

If hagel cost 2 1st...

Crouse who having a pretty similar production, who's more physical and a better defensive player...

You can add lehkonen who bring a 1st and barron who having the same value of a late 1st... for a guy with a worst production than crouse, less physical but as good defensivly...

Yes Crouse would bring 2 late 1st pick or something like a 1st and minten

Its just funny to hear fan wanting you to find their coleman, hagel, goodrow, lehkonen but when its the time to pay the price recquire to make those move.... ah no way its really too much!!! We dont want to trade this or this player... bla bla bla...

Its your not ready to pay the price, you will get a max domi, a jvr or whatever
A players value is what a GM is willing to pay. Crouse isn’t worth 2 firsts and just because 1 GM paid that doesn’t mean others will. He’d be a valuable pick up though.

Every prospect could flop, so that's a very odd argument to use.
You are setting expectations of flop to convince yourself to use him in a trade IMO.

He's nominated for the Hobey Baker. 3rd in the country in goals.

Not sure why the putting him down. His floor is most likely middle 6. He's 20 and is 6'3". 220 with puck skills, size, and not afraid of contact. That's a very good profile, and trading him for higher paid players means you have to find lower paid players to fill out the rest of the roster.....kinda like what Knies would be if he wasn't wasted in a trade.

yeah but why state the incredibly obvious? Of course every player can flop. The point is that ON AVERAGE being as productive of an NCAA player as Knies is does not guarantee a top-6 role - hell it's not even blue chip status. Jimmy Vesey also won the HB - he's 6'3" 200lbs. Adam Gaudette 6'1". There's some great HB winners, and some guys who didn't even get a sniff at the NHL level over the last ~20 years.

What I don't get is why being realistic is somehow equal to "putting him down"? Who the heck is putting him down? he's still our top prospect after all. I agree his profile is excellent. But to act like he's a bonafide blue chip here is just silly - he's not. He's on the tier below. Doesn't mean he's worthless though, does it?

It's not always black and white. I'm not putting him down to convince you to use him in trade; I'm also not advocating keeping him at all costs even if it prevents us from landing guys that can contribute significantly in the next 1-3 years.

If leafs dont want to pay a legit price, arizona will keep it simple as this... maybe it will be be as high than 2 1st but would be close.

Its not arizona who want to trade Crouse but leafs fan who want him
