Yes to Laughton, no to Hartman for me. Would rather use that package + to land someone like Henrique.

Think it would take more to land Laughton though

Yep. I like Henrique as well. Experienced veteran, term, has a pretty decent shot. Shouldn't cost the farm to acquire him, but I could see the Ducks keeping him on in a mentor type role.

Hartman is struggling with penalty issues and I take the concerns of other posters, however he was terrific last year and his contract would an easy fit. Maybe last year was a flash in the pan. If the Wild are shopping Greenway, which there has been some speculation about, then I imagine they keep Hartman around.

Meier @50%, Benning for Knies, Niemela, Kerfoot, 2023 1st
Henrique @50% for Steeves, 2024 2nd

Roll top 3 lines equal minutes.

Next season:
Sign Bunting 3.75Mx8 (30M total)
Sign Meier 9Mx8
Sign Samsonov 4Mx4
Holmberg/Anderson get QO

Trade Murray for anything assuming he has value
Trade Rielly for Arvidsson - Assuming the Chychrun deal does not go through, LAK needs a LHD. The assumption here is that Rielly would be willing to waive to live in LA (fun place to live, promising team, Matthews might be playing there soon).

I beg people not to turn this into a debate over whether or not Rielly would waive for LAK.

We have very good depth. The Schenn talk is weird. He's getting caved, as a #6 in Vancouver..yet somehow would be a great #3 here? I am not opposed to trading for him, but maybe a 5th round pick... I'd think someone with less depth would pay more.

The only D moves we should make, are legitimate upgrades. Chychrun would be an upgrade over Sandin... but at what cost? Ekholm could be a good addition, Gavrikov... But Gavrikov could be just a rental, and I'd like to stay away from that. I'd love to find a way to upgrade the D, and it's physicality, but the key is finding players who at least play hockey as well as our current group.

Provorov who already prove he can played against toughest matchup and get succes ( when he did it with niskanen).

I think leafs should hightly consider trading for him or ekholm over chychrun

Even worse than something that isn't happening, you trade Rielly like he's a cap dump, and you have a 7th D playing on the so called top pair. That D is so very bad.

Just stop before we all gouge our eyes out.

I just see a worst team than right now who remembered what leafs was looking 1st season with matthews with everything in attavk and nothing in D

That's the part that makes the whole post unrealistic.

It's one of the worst roster makeovers I have seen.

Provorov at $6.75 mil, has never been very good defensively. Niskanen carried him there. his offense is ok. Honestly, I don't rate him as worth the cap, or the assets to get him. I'd rather make no trade, than add Provorov.

Explain how this is worse please. You literally add 3 bona fide top 6 forwards in Meier/Arvidsson/Henrique and you subtract Rielly from next seasons roster.

you have a 7th D playing on the so called top pair.
You call Benning a 7D but he has been very good this year playing shutdown minutes for the sharks stapled next to MEV. I have him paired next to Brodie for next season which would be a shutdown pairing but you can put Liljegren on the "top pair" if it makes you feel better.

Philadelphia really makes a great trading partner for us.

Provorov and Laughton are two names that would improve our roster pretty drastically. Tippett is another guy I’d have interest in.

With who they been playing?

gostibehere, ristolainen, rookie york, deangelo, braun

If you removing niskanen, Justin Braun is probably the best D defensive side he was playing with in his entire carreer and provorov playing toughest matchup game after game... a guy who will actually not be enought good to make leafs line up....

Put provorov with brodie and im pretty sure you will get an extremely solid pair defensivly ...

Its like talking about how trash defensivly muzzin ( or every leafs d) was when he played with Barrie against toughest matchup

Columbus needs a top C more than anything else. Of course, they are leading the Bedard sweeps at the moment, or the fall back Fantilli.....

Friedman doesn't seem to understand that. Coyotes have been asking for 1st round picks (multiple) to even start a discussion for Chychrun. Columbus ain't trading their Bedard pick.

What an asinine opinion to throw out there from Friedman.

It's wild to me teams are now doing this 2+ weeks before the deadline. Typically you'd see this only maybe a game or two before the deadline kind of thing. It makes sense but still a little weird.

I find the idea to be ridiculous once the process spans across a number of games. That's no longer an "imminent" trade IMO.

He's just not the kind of D man that I think we need to add at this time. Even if i agree with you, that Provorov would look ok with Brodie covering for him, I don't think we should be obtaining D men, that need a good partner to be passable defensively. If anything, I think our need is the opposite... someone excellent defensively, and preferably bigger and more physical than Provorov.

If the Leafs are paying 6.75M for any player it's not a good start if that player is already not worth the contract. Whoever they target should be a player whose performance is exceeding their contract. If they do acquire a LHD for anything over 4M that defenseman should be able to play with all of the Leafs RD (Brodie, Liljegren, Holl, Timmins) without making the fanbase wince.

Yeah, Coyotes are not getting Bedard for Chychrun and Crouse combined.

Lottery protected 1st. would be expected this year from most teams out of the playoffs.
