I'm not much of a fan of multi-year retentions. If a team isn't planning to contend during said time frame though...

Arizona says they wouldn't mind retaining in Chychrun. How would people feel about Chychrun at 2.5 million per year? Would you then be okay with giving up Knies?

That's the a big thing for me - more depth with some offensive capability in the bottom 6 .. as much as the Leafs need more physicality they could also use some offensive game down the middle.

Henrique would fit well, doesn't cost as much as bigger names, and is signed through next year. He's a nice little bandaid until the Tavares deal is close to expiring that gives the Leafs a chance to restructure things.

Still need some physical wingers. But Henrique would be the upgrade over Kerfoot to me.
Jeannot with henrique would totally serve isus right.

If we get schenn or mccabe on D, our suckas be ready.

personally no.

Now before anyone says - well knies isn't even a blue chip prospect sure fire first liner.

Well yes, BUT... knies represents the most rarest of player types. If you trade knies, and if he reaches his potential, that's going to be way way way worse than the whole seguin debacle. The most rarest commodity is a power forward, a RHD number 1 who is great at defense and a 2 way centre. And right now the former is probably the rarest in the league.

JMO.

I’m torn on giving up Knies in a Chychrun trade, but I would absolutely trade Knies in a Meier trade.

Upgrade I’m physicality. Big downgrade in the ability to play hockey. Won’t help us win.
Holmberg or McCann can give us what KERFOOT can. He is now a fourth liner at 3.5

Holl is a 5/6 at best. If he is in our top four it will be another 1st round exit. Holl can’t handle physical forwards. Too soft. Can’t clear the net

I seriously doubt we can win that bidding war but if we did bring Chychrun in somebody else needs to go

So who are we trading? Sandin?

Rielly for Karlsson is our Demar for Kawhi move. Fan/Team favorite for the mercenary game breaker.

Brodie Karlsson
Sandin Liljegren
Giordano Holl
Benn Timmins

The way that clubs win Cups is by maximizing their peak talent during their window, not building for 3 years from now so if I thought Chychrun was a tipping point add, definitely, with the key being he's young and he's not a rental. Its just they are married to Rielly and having two 20+ minute PMD guys on the left side doesn't seem like a spend that is going to give them the best bang for their buck.

If there is a player that moves the needle for them everything should be on the table but it has to be solid return for a guy that moves the needle enough.

It's funny how Friedman is saying that Dubas is making it seem like he's going after everyone to confuse everybody about what his real plan is.

Nobody outside the Leafs FO seems to actually know their plan and it almost seems like they're seeing which GMs/Orgs are leaking information to the media. So far the teams we've been tied to are Vancouver (lol Rutherford just HAD to let the media know the Leafs "asked" about Myers??) and Chicago (Kyle Davidson leak gate 2.0?). None of the actual insiders have made any serious commitments about what we're even looking for because they'd be risking their credibility (except for Pagnotta who has literally 0) and I honestly believe they have no idea besides their own speculation.

Seems like he's trying to avoid a bidding war and pick up an add for less than expected in terms of cost out.

Eventually some teams will prioritize getting as bad as possible for the draft lottery, could lead to some bargain shopping

if Knies is the main piece, than it's a no brainer for me.Young great defensemen don't grow on trees either and our window is now, not two-four year's from now (which is how far Knies is out). And as you said it's not a for sure thing he will even be more than a 4th liner. Tavares will be two years older, Brodie, Nylander, Matthews and Bunting going to need raises.

Chychrun is cost controlled and an excellent player. He's also very young so this isn't young players for an old veteran.

Trading for Chychrun doesn't make our future any less bright. Which is key.

Look back at what Carolina paid for Domi last year. They got him double retained for literally nothing (Korshkov). I'm sure a trade like that will happen this year.

This is where I'm at.

Spot on.

I wouldn’t trade him for Chychrun, and I would strongly resist in a Meier trade. IMO we have other pieces capable of getting that deal done - Neimela, Voit, Mitten, Robertson, etc. try those first even if you have to give up more than one to keep Knies. And this is coming from a guy who doesn’t believe Knies to be the blue chip prospect that some do.

Technically, as long as Knies doesn't sign a pro-contract, he can be a UFA in the summer, right?
Whats stopping Leafs to wink wink a deal with Knies till the summer?

Are we currently believing Friedman, or still not? It's hard to keep up with who we believe as a group.
I think if Simmons said something like Leafs is gunning after Meier, people will believe Simmons, lol.

Yes. It was obvious to many here that the rumour was bogus anyway - there’s no justifiable reason why we would be interested in an awful, severely overpriced depth defenseman.
Where did it first leaked about Myers?
Was it bc Dubas was in Vancouver for the Propsects Game?
