If Meier is the guy they get, Keefe really needs better balance to create three good lines instead of just loading up the top 6.
They could put Matthews with Meier and Bunting, Knies comes up to play with Marner and Tavares to give him some vets who play a 200 foot game.

Whoever doesn't go to balance out the cap plays with Willy on the 3rd line.

Watching Will without Matthews it is pretty clear he doesn't need much to create chances. Probably Jarnkrok and Engvall.

4th line is now Kamph and whoever else is added or a fight between Holmberg, Steeves, ZAR, Mcmann etc

I think they should have a threat outside of the top 6.

Realistically, it is top 4 with complementary 2.

That's why I'd like a top 6 talent on the 3rd. line, so someone is there that can produce.

To say Kerfoot has not talent and no hands is incorrect.
But he doesn't seem to have any ability to pick any spot when shooting.
At this point I really don't think he should shoot unless he wants a face-off in the O-zone.

If only Robertson ...

Committing to Meier means Nylander is 100% gone this summer. His QO is 10 million. Maybe he settles for 8*8, but why would he?

Chychrun means we could keep the core 4 forwards together long term if we want too, and have an excellent defensive asset for many seasons ahead.
I understand your reasoning but your assumption Nylander is gone if Meier is extended is faulty. By no means am I saying it would be easy to fit both but it would be possible. An example would be to move brodie and Murray in the offseason. Not ideal and could hurt the team but not impossible.

I also think 8x8 is optimistic for him too. He has no incentive to give a team he has no connections to a good deal.

But yes, the biggest issue with him is that if guarantees either 1 of the big 4 or Rielly are gone in the offseason. And I don't think the front office will want to make such a major decision by the tdl.

Which means I've always seen Meier as a non-starter for the Leafs

Brodie + Murray, neither are long term assets, and both have been about average this season. We also could add an additional D after game 1 when muzzin goes on Ltir. It's very doable, what we don't know is will it result in a better team for next year.

That also means if they shift Brodie's monies to help pay for it also means that's 5+ mil less spent on defense which seems less than ideal.

Is the thought he's getting double digits for 8 years?

That would be a big get for Arizona. We couldn't compete with that centrepiece tbh

They might be getting Zona's goalie too if he's involved

1st round pick 2023

Would be my guess.

This is why I included adding a d when Muzzin goes on Ltir after game 1. It's entirely doable.

The pick would be 2024 because they traded their 2023 already.

Brodie had been best d leafs defender all year long and the who played the toughest matchup amount every leafs D....

According to Pagnotta, the asking price for Barbashev is a second round pick and a prospect. At 50% retained, 1.125m would be good value for him to play on the 3rd line.

Ideally Bert and Barbasev are Maple Leafs by the end of the TDL.
Some posters are lukewarm on Barbashev, but i'd argue you're going to be hard pressed to find a better fit that only costs 2nd + minor pieces. Age, contract, stylistic fit, positional versatility, acquisition cost.

Some pretty lofty TDL expectations in here.

Friedman has already indicated multiple times that Meier is open and willing to signing under double digits long-term. Players are often going to value security over risking playong on a one year deal.

All he is guaranteed if you pick up the option is 1 season of double digits.

But hey, if some team wants to give him $88mm I hope it isn't Toronto.
