If true, Timmins in a trade should bring back a top 6 forward.

He's young, his under a great contract that leads to RFA status.
Right now, Timmins greatest value to us is what he becomes next year.

He has next to no trade value right now and letting him go would not be good asset management.

He will be our 3 RHD next year, provided he stays healthy.

Oilers pursuing EK. Going all in with full offense, no D. Could be exciting to watch, who knows how successful though.

This franchise hasn’t gotten a “big fish” at the TDL since acquiring Muzzin in 2019. And no, Foligno the scrub doesn’t count even though Dubas paid big fish price for him.

O’Reilly is not a big fish and if the Leafs acquire him it’ll be Foligno all over again. If they’re going to get a forward, swing for Meier, if it’s a defenseman don’t p***yfoot with McCabe and swing for Chychrun.

That Myers bit doesn’t make much sense unless he comes retained and with some kind of high quality flippable asset….not sure how that’d make sense for the Canucks though. Like, pure cap dump.
He’d likely be fine as a 6-7 next year, could conceivably fit in that role, but even then, not a great use of 3mil in cap space. It’d have to be highly incentivized.

I have serious doubts he's better than Timmins, our current #7D

It doesn't matter how much you play if you're struggling to keep your head above water

People love Schenn because he used to play for us and he's more physical than a lot of the other guys we have, he's also worse than at least 7 guys already on our roster
He's a waste of assets to aquire imo

I wouldn't want Myers at 3M, I think I can come up with better ways of spending that money and we already have Brodie, Liljegren and Timmins on RD for next season

Looking good in a strong team against worst opposion line its not the same the looking good against toughest matchup in an awful team... timmins was not able to find a regular spot in an awful team who had a huge need at D, bit because he wqs able to look fine during 18 game in an excellent team... so now hes a beast but a player who played against toughest matchup game after game in an other team almost as trash than arizona, he becoming worst than the guy who was not enought good to earn a starting spot in the same quality of team?!?!?!

The only 2-3 season in carreer he was playing with a good line up was his last 2-3 in winnipeg when player like ehlers, connor started and grow up with jets... and we was looking great and thats why he get a 6M contract right after...giving myers a good team around him again and good chance you will see back that myers...

Just because one coach believed Myers was worth 20+ minutes doesn't mean he was. I mean, he's been absolutely caved in those minutes with one of the worst defensive impacts in the league per Dom's model. Can he handle bottom pairing minutes and not be a liability? Probably. Is that worth 3M cap at 50% retention and having to pay an asset? f*** no.

Nobody is saying that Timmins is capable of putting up 20 mins/night and succeeding, but you need to think about the role he's playing and actually playing extremely well in. Myers has been a bad defenseman since he was drafted and teams keep believing in him because he's massive. He'd be #8 on most people's depth chart because although he's a fine player in an extremely limited role, we have two outright dominant ones in limited roles in Sandin and Timmins alreadtly that we have the ability to shelter with 5 guys Keefe has full trust in.

He's been over 20 minutes a game since about 2013 on three different teams with multiple coaches.

Again, I'm not saying he's a good player.

It'll be great as long as they're firing on all cylinders, but if they have a bad night, the Edmonton goal light will short circuit.

No guarantee but it's the most likely scenario, it doesn't hurt were going to throw money at him and will give him an almost buyout proof deal with huge lump sums early in the deal

People called Washington chokers and said Ovi couldn't get it done when it matted, that team was mocked for over a decade because of its playoff performance

They certainly didn't say those things before they won a cup, they did afterwards though
Well I hope ur right
Would suck to lose matthews

As for washingston
I’m not sure what ur “people” said but I do know they won a few rounds before they won the cup with ovi and that team so

Kane would give the Leafs a huge offensive boost. Obviously he's not 2018 Patrick Kane but he could have Phil Kessel (Pittsburgh) level of value to the Leafs. He still got 26 goals and 92 points last season.

The big problem, and the main problem, is the cap space. Even at 75%, it's rough to fit.

If the Leafs can get him to a similar price that they paid to get Giordano, it would be interesting.

There is absolutely no way Kane signs for Gio deal. Kane already has his cup; he isn't chasing anymore; he is probably looking for a retirement package

As the joke goes, the Oilers are what people think the Leafs are. They are a top-heavy team that, due to cap difficulties, has been unable to fill out their D and bottom 6 forward group with quality players.

In that context, I feel like Karlsson would be a decent gamble for them, simply because I am not sure their problems are fixable otherwise (at least with Holland at the helm).

The Pacific this year is also arguably the weakest division the league has seen since the old Southeast, meaning there is a path to the Cup for them. They do not need to match the East's powerhouses; they just need to separate themselves from the likes of Seattle and Winnipeg. Karlsson could help them do that.

They won 3 rounds in OV's first 9 seasons (Never more than 1 a year and missed the playoffs 3 times too)

Stamkos' Lighning won 2 rounds in his first 6 seasons (And missed the playoffs 4 times). MacKinnon's Avs didn't win a round until his 6th season (And missed the playoffs 3 of his first 5 years). The GOAT McD's Oilers won one round in his first 6 seasons (And missed the playoffs 3 times)

Our window is not closing as fast as people think and I think our window remains the same for the next 2 years but actually gets bigger after that for about ~5 years.

I find this inconsistent though.

If Timmins, on a great controlled contract, expiring to RFA status, capable of being a 20 minute game defender on an NHL team isn't worth a top 6 forward?
But why on earth would anyone care about his trade value when he is needed in Toronto?

I think people find it inconsistent to consider trading a young RD who came from the same draft as Liljegren and just signed a sweet 2 year extension that leaves him an RFA at the end.

Why even suggest this? What did I miss, or am I missing?

Trouble with a Timmins, we got him for nothing earlier this year, it takes time for GM’s to adjust his stock. I don’t think we can get his value back in a trade yet, he’s perhaps useful as a sweetener in a bigger deal.

But what if Barbashev is involved.

O'Rielly @ 50% retained and Barbashev would be 6 mil in cap for Kerfoot, Holl and ZAR would be 6.34 in cap. Then we'd obviously add the sweeteners like a prospect and pick(s) or whatever. Not my #1 trade choice imo but I do like Barbashev.

The closer we get to the tdl, the less interested I become in buying any of the big names.

Just keep waiting and see which teams get desperate enough on their tank for Bedard. A 2nd or B prospect could go a long way in a team trying to get as worse as possible
