I think David Perron can be a good option

Domi apparently going to DAL
Thank god lmao

I'm leaning towards Perron. Older but still a good player. Playoff style guy and can score and shows up in the playoffs.
Had formed a good partnership with ROR, but can fit with JT too.
He's the best option left.
I was late to the party but yea 100% this

He said he wasn't trading 1sts for rentals, but ya....

I have a feeling ROR won't be a rental either.

I had actually said (with tongue planted firmly in cheek) that Gustafsson was the new LW upgrade for the top 6. lol

Honestly, that's not a bad idea.....thinking outside the box.
True, I hope O'Reilly isn't a rental but no guarantees. However the point was more that the things these GMs say to the public should be taken with a grain of sand. They aren't going to back themselves into a corner just because they said something once if a good opportunity arises

I’m not too worried about playing Bertuzzi in the 2nd round. In his last 7 games versus Toronto he only had 2 goals 0 assists and is -6.

This has been my suspicion the last couple of days too. Dubas was reportedly targeting him in the offseason. He'd be a good top 9 option/Bunting insurance for next year too. Retention would be ideal but could probably fit him in if Kerfoot goes the other way.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
Knies - ROR - Perron
Lafferty - Kampf - Acciari

Now that's a forward core.

I really like the balance of those lines.

It's obviously assuming that Jarnkrok works on his offwing with the 2nd line and Knies as a 3rd line LW'er but this is what we should be aiming for imo.

I really hope they push ROR back to 3rd line C for a handful of games to see what our team looks like with Matthews-Tavares-ROR down the middle and the ability to roll 3 lines that can provide decent offense. Right now its moreso two great lines with the bottom two not instilling much confidence that they'll be able to provide semi consistent scoring thru 4 playoff rounds.

Why Perron. What is it he brings to the table? One more even strength point than Kerfoot, in more minutes. Isn't as good defensively. What's the attraction?

Perron has been pretty elite on the PP and our PP has basically stunk in the playoffs so that's probably why

Very consistent and underrated offensively, and pretty solid defensively. He's actually having a down year offensively but still on pace for well over 50 points and 20 goals. Just an all around very good player, similar to like Oshie in that fashion.

They may have similar points at even strength but Perron is a far superior player offensively. Perron can actually score and make plays. I'd even argue he's just as good defensively as well.

I would not give up much more than a 1st at best though. It doesn't feel that great value for his age and contract.

I honestly think our PP is not just the players, it's the Power Play itself, as drawn up by the coaches.

In the past it's been too predictable, with too much cutesy putesy shit between Matthews and Marner, with everyone getting the puck to Matthews to shoot.

If Perron is a trigger guy, there's hope, otherwise he may become strangely infected by the disease we have called Overpassitis.

Who else is left of interest?

Crouse
Comtois
Toffoli
Vejmelka
Laughton
Konecny

Depends who's available. If we're putting a lot of names in the hat, Troy Terry would be my favourite. Don't even have to shed that much salary to make it work.

Is he available? I figured he was a guy the Ducks might keep. Seems to gell well with their other talented players too

I don't see why not. He's as available as guys like Konecny really.

Anaheim is in a full fledge rebuild. Terry is going to be 26 years old and needs a new (big) contract next season. I haven't seen any rumours but with this trade deadline being wild so far, who knows. Basically Meier-lite.

Terry is an RFA after the season, how would we be able to re-sign him?

I'm not looking that far. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to juggle it in the off-season. Or you can flip his rights to another team after the Leafs win the cup ( :sarcasm: )

Perron has another year on his deal, no? Like the player, but I'd like to keep some cap flexibility to leave the door open for O'Reilly. If there's another forward being brought in, ideally it's an expiring contract.

Glad we stayed out on Domi.
With heavy retention and saying bye bye to Bunting in the offseason.....they can still easily sign ROR.
