The Leafs are better off finding guys with at least a little term so we can have them for 2 runs, if not more, if we’re offering up our best potential deadline assets. I don’t think you even remotely consider putting a prospect like Knies on the table unless you’re confident you are getting an impact player and can extend the rental you’re acquiring - meaning that those discussions have been had.

This is the answer

Henrique please.. 2 playoff runs and it solidifies the team’s centre depth

Henrique seems like a no-brainer. Matt Benning would be my 2nd target - he's having an awesome season and is signed for this year and 3 more at 1.25M. Throw in the proposed Kerfoot for Garland with 1M retained and I'd be pleased with the deadline.

Henrique: 2 playoff runs
Benning: 4 playoff runs
Garland: 4 playoff runs

If we aren't going to be buying are we going to be own rentaling again?

Bunting, Kampf, Kerfoot, Holl al free agents to be

If we aren't buying I hope we sell some of those guys to get some picks for next year to buy when the Bruins hopefully aren't as dominant

I don't want to go into the playoffs with this same roster and expect that we can actually win two series against the bolts/Bruins who will make buyers moves short if a goaltending classic performance from samsonov/Murray

In hockey, especially when you have a group of CORE players that are only going to be together for maybe another year, you have to go ALL IN or GO HOME. the fact that Chychrun isn't in a Leaf jersey yet tells me that Dubas doesn't have the BALLS to pull the trigger.

Also, the complete lack of sense NOT to go get a power fwd. to play with Tavaras speaks volumes about the incredible ignorance of this GM.

Toronto has many players that they can move without much thought of hurting the talent pool they have compiled, but they definitely cant expect to compete against the top teams with the lineup that they have now.

Unfortunately, it will be Another early exit for Toronto again this spring.

I don't consider Meier a rental. Without hesitation i'd trade Knies, our 1st, and likely more. It ju feels like San Jose could get a better haul with Carolina or New Jersey but it depends on how they value guys like Jarvis/Holtz/Knies and which ones each team deems expendable.

I agree and I think I'd be annoyed if that happens too, but it also feels like there's currently a no-win situation he needs to win. He's built a top-5 team who's only weakness is basically bottom-6 scoring. For me if there isnt a legit impact upgrade (top-pair/top-6/3C) available with a palatable ask he'd better not waste significant assets going after the Lyubushkins of the world. I'd much rather he stands pat because the team is good enough as is, and the onus really needs to be on the core to get over the hump.
Part of me does sympathize with him as he seems like a pragmatic guy who has to deal with the burden of so many years of failure from before his time. But part of it is also self inflicted, as he's the one who chose to give Matthews 5 years to expedite the timeline for contention and he chose to bet on the core every single season, and up until now hasn't been good enough in bringing in reinforcements.

Yeah there's definitely a risk to giving up a quality prospect like Knies or Niemela or a first round pick, but there can't be another half-assed attempt to improve the team. I truly believe the Leafs would have at least won a round by now if he showed more fortitude in bringing in quality players who could contribute in the extremely tight series the Leafs have had. For that to be the situation yet again would be entirely unacceptable

This is patently absurd to me, sorry…

The green farm hands aren’t going to provide the depth we need against a Boston, come on.

Agreed. However, it could show Dubas he's free to move a Kerfoot/Engvall ina bigger splash..and still have kids ready to fill some of those spots. I think it's about seeing who he can move, not necessarily if it's good enough as is.

i think Kyle will wait around til the end and trade some mid round picks for some depth pieces.
Something like an Aciari or Bonino up front and a Maata on defence.

Wouldn't that mean every other GM wouldn't have balls either since he is still a Coyote?

I’m all for fun as the boards can get overly pretentious.

Apologies for the tone. I don’t know you well enough to know you were kidding without the :sarcasm: at the end of your post.

Otherwise I guess I’m just preconditioned on here that rather than discuss and disagree as fans, that the intent is to put down and make fun of a differing view.

Cheers and COMMON TRADES!!!!!
Mea culpa. I thought 'sacrificing virgins on a black altar' didn't really need a :sarcasm: .

All good.

Can't hurt to have a look at them

Worst case scenario is they don't pop and we're in exactly the same situation we are now
Best case is somebody does and we can look for something else we may need Instead

No downside, no risk

It's 100% in particular about those two. If they need some extra salary moved to fit in an acquisition, they may need a cheap fill in. Holmberg seems likely part of that solution ready

Yup and that the entire league isn't dumb enough to pay the ridiculous asking price they've had for the last year.

Playoff bound teams, sitting 3rd in the nhl at the all star break do no sell. That is assinine.

From what we have seen from this group I'm not sure the traditional process of plugging the holes (many) on paper is the right approach - throwing good money after bad. Crouse or Meier aren't going to turn us into a playoff team.

We need to elevate the team that's already in place before trying to change physicality or bottom 6 scoring dynamics with individual pick ups.

They've been given another chance to show they are ready to step up, I'd see that play out first and go big next year if they pass the test.

ROR would be a reasonable acquisition. He does plug some weaknesses but more importantly he may be able to improve the team overall by bringing a warrior culture. Perhaps a Schenn as well. Let's see that first on the cheap before spending bigger assets we might need in a retool.

You always give your guys a shot, for several reasons. To see what they’ve got now, and into the future, and showcase them for trades. You never know, until you try.

It’s absurd to never give them a shot, or showcase them, just poor asset management. It’s highly improbable that Steeves steals a spot, but maybe he increase his trade value. Maybe he shows he’s worth percolating further for a shot next year. Sooner or later, ok to good prospects should get a look.

Henrqiues contract is perfect but isnt he kinda bad? Not sure if im a fan of his game. ROR would be very nice I wonder what his next contracts aav would look like.

Henrique 1.79 pts/60
RoR 1.38 pts/60

Ror’s next contract is likely $5-6 million
