The return seems light for how long Arizona held out. Obviously none of the contenders first rounders are as valuable as Ottawa's.

It's probably going to be a 1st and two 2nds from Ottawa.

For Toronto, Edmonton, or Boston it was probably two 1sts, and a 2nd at minimum. Sounds like they were trying to squeeze more as well and overplayed their hand.

They may end up keeping the picks, but there's still too many D men on the roster. Someone likely still has to go
No one really has to go we need depth for a playoff run.
Timmins can sit and get some experience watching a team go on a playoff run.
Gustafsson can get in a few games but is mostly insurance against Rielly’s health. The other 7 guys are the regulars.
After the deadline the rosters expand and we can recall a forward to have depth there.

Do the Leafs have to make a move there? I could see them wanting as much depth there as possible to whether (hopefully) two gruelling series against Tampa and Boston.

It wouldn't have cost that for the Leafs. Their pick(s) won't end up as high as the Sens own pick.

And if they asked the Coyotes to retain, price goes up.

You don’t need to have all of schenn/holl/Gustafson. Could have traded Kerfoot instead of engvall.

Making up 2.7 million isn’t too hard when you have 9 defensmen

Before me made any trade, months ago knowing Chychyrun/Gavrikov were available my #1 trade target was a McCabe/Lafferty package from Chicago.

I have never been on the nose about a set of players coming here before. I was actually mocking us to give more value than we did lol.
No qualms with the price paid in that trade. Hope the players pan out well here.

Seems as if the most important element for Arizona in the Chychrun trade was to have zero salary retained or coming back in the deal. Not surprised that likely cut many teams out of the running, Leafs included. Sens one of the few who likely wanted him at full cap hit and could make it work

All the contenders would need salary retained or for Arizona to take a player back. Ottawa does not.

They may not technically have to, but I'd be very surprised if they keep 9 active D men. 8 seems a more reasonable number. Especially if the team does intend on potentially making an additional trade

When the roster expands can you carry as many players as you want as long as you are under the cap?

Are they even meeting the cap floor now?

Absolute trashbag franchise. I fraekin' hate these assclowns

WTF Chychrun essentially went for 1st + 2nd + 2nd

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL f***

We couldn't match this shit? Or did the yotes lower their ask after demand went down?

Atlantic division is a pain in the ass
I think the Yotes came down a little be the Leafs could have. If they let Kerf go in the St Louis deal they don't even need retention but McCabe is the much better fit.
