What about Perron? Still has one more year under contract. You can pair him with O'Reilly

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
Perron - O'Reilly - ??
Zar - Acciari - Lafferty

He would be a better pick up than Bertuzzi, especially with the Leafs having ROR, but I don't see Detroit moving him.

I would do:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Jarnkrok-Tavares-Nylander
Perron-ROR-Lafferty
Kerfoot-Kampf-Acciari
ZAR

You'd have to move out Murray to make it work though. I'd look at a swap of Gustafsson for Raanta to replace Murray if they did move him.

I'd like to keep Kerfy if possible. But to do it we would have to get Toffoli at the full 50 %, and cut ZAR and Gustafson. And then to bring in Knies we would need to put lose Timmins through waivers.

Fixed it for you.

Consider losing Timmins part of the cost of what you are proposing as there is no way he gets through Waivers if exposed.

We’ve already lost enough to keep Kerfoot, I have no interest in losing a player like Timmins for him. Enough is enough, really.

The thing is we could really use Kerfoot in a bottom 6 role in the playoffs and Timmins won't be anywhere near the playoff roster. I would like to keep Timmins but I'm not going to lose sleep over my 9th guy on the depth chart getting claimed through waivers.

Also by that time, maybe someone gets injured and we will have someone on LTIR again so we will have cap space again.

Yes because replaci one very talented but injury prone goalie, with another talented but injury prone goalie is always a good plan.

Isn't Bertuzzi terrible defensively? I'm not sure how I feel about him as a target.
We got many forwards who can help cover for him if he is or isn't. Put him with Marner and Matthews and he compliments them offensively and if he's bad defensively they both can help him out there.

We got a game today. Might wait until our off day tomorrow to finish up.

Nvm, we play a back to back. Maybe he's saving one trade for trade deadline day so the people on TSN and Sportsnet covering Trade Deadline day have something to talk about for a while.
Was just kidding but yeah I'm guessing Friday he'll do a trade or two still.

Vegas might be the wildest team I've ever seen for this stuff.

Yeah pretty odd for them. They always seem to have no cap space and trade all their prospects but still keep picking up whoever despite all that. I thought their one goalie was having a good season.
Think he’s waiting for other teams to make moves. Maybe Canucks to make a trade so we can dump Kerfy
Was kidding but yeah probably more to come still.

1. Raanta is significantly cheaper and allows you to acquire another scoring forward without giving up Kerfoot/Holl
2. Raanta will be a UFA and will allow the Leafs to run Samsonov/Woll next year for the same price as Murray alone
3. Raanta has played more games than Murray this year
4. Raanta was very good in the playoffs last season, Murray hasn't played in the playoffs since 2020

Found added context for my prior post.

like Bertuzzi as a player but is there still limitations on him traveling across the border given his vaccine status?
I know the emergency declarations are ending May 11th but we'll be well into the postseason by then.

I value what Timmins can become more than what Kerfoot already is: a forward who doesn’t fit our lineup, whereas Timmins has the potential to become a top 4 RHD and is part of our RHD pipeline, behind Liljegren and ahead of Niemala.

He is more valuable than Kerfoot as soon as next season.

Either trade Kerfoot now for draft capital or let him walk as a UFA.

Cheers

Apologies in advance, but that is the dumbest thing I have read in awhile.

You want to waive (and lose) a defender who is slotted in to the bottom pairing RD position next season to keep a f'n pending UFA this season in Kerfoot? Plus waive him over other pending UFA's in Schenn and Gustafsson?

He is the same age and from the same draft as Liljegren. So he's only going to get better.

The Leafs still have to ice a team next season, so glad we have a GM who can think 5 minutes or more into the future.

Please use logic. Please.

Though conversely Knies will have a sub 1 mil caphit for the next two seasons and the. Just starts his rfa contract. that carries extra value to the Leafs as they potentially have extended Matthews, Nylander and Marner contracts during that time frame. Crouse at 3 mil also likely means ROR is more difficult to extend too
Yes but I doubt Knies gives you the production that Crouse does over the next 2-3 years.
