If we were to unload some extra players we have, what is a realistic return?

Holl = 2nd?
Kerfoot = 3rd?
Gustafsson = 3rd?

I don't think it's for the sake of it. It's quite clear the Leafs want more physicality and strength in the lineup and in their depth.

It's just a lot of turnover. This should have been done last off-season or something. Probably wasn't possible of course but I think they needed to be more pro-active much before the trade deadline.

Okay but like... seriously. Waking up to that was insanity.

I hate the Engvall trade. No matter how people clowned on him, he was always an effective defensive 3L that had the ability to score 40 points. I'm honestly not certain there's a better player in our bottom-6 and we'll feel his loss when nobody down there can drive play or move the puck in transition.

I don't love the Schenn trade. Okay cool, you traded for a guy that can handle a bottom-pair role.... if he passes Liljegren on the depth chart even once I'll probably lose it. Why are we trading a 3rd for *this* much defenseman depth? We're 9 deep easy. There has to be another move.

A Sandin trade was never going to be an easy one to win, but he also would have been real unhappy after signing that deal and having to sit. He's a very good NHL defenseman, and wish him the best. Gustafsson having an insane year though and a 1st is a 1st.

Rielly-Brodie
McNabb-Holl
Giordano-Liljegren
Gustafsson-Schenn
Benn-Timmins

Lol what the f***.
I love Engvall, but you can't deny he turns into a ghost when the games tighten up. If they can bring in another quality winger, that trade looks fine IMO

You know Dubas is doing great when Noodles is giving him pops and said the team is as good as Bruins, TB with no visible weakness.

So many think Schenn is sitting out but I think he replaces Holl and starts with Rielly

McCabe Brodie
Rielly Schenn
Giordano Lilly

That's a damn good defensive group with some snarl now with the added McCabe and Schenn

It would be a stupid idea considering Holl is a much better defenseman than Schenn.

I imagine Holl is getting moved and something else happens up front, with Schenn coming in for Holl at that point. Still stupid if it is just a straight Holl for Schenn swap, but I imagine there would be more involved in moving Holl.

A backend of:

McCabe - Brodie
Rielly - Schenn
Giordano - Liljegren

Murray - Samsonov

Is probably one of the best overall groups.

My only concern is there’s a lot of moving parts and not that much time left until the playoffs. Hopefully they can build chemistry asap.

This roster looks a lot more like a playoff roster to me. Though i also think this is a LOT of turnover down the home stretch, and ideally we could have made some of these depth moves last offseason.

The only way I see Schenn actually being an improvement on Holl is if Rielly and Schenn play better together because Rielly and Holl were always a disaster.

Traded Holl for a 2nd, Kerfoot for a 3rd, Gustafsson for a 3rd, then 2x 1sts + Robertson for Konecny

Wouldn't be upset if we could do something around that.

This is what I have for current D pairs as well. Gustafsson as the #7. Trade Holl for whatever futures you can get.

Schenn did a great job with Hughes. He can hang back for Rielly. let McCabe-Brodie handle the tough minutes.

That's the logic I see as well. Holl needs a defensive minded partner, Schenn has shown an ability to play with Rielly type of Dmen.

For me Gio-Holl I better than Gio-Schenn, but Rielly-Schenn is a better pair than Rielly-Holl.

As long as Schenn plays it simple, doesn't make stupid pinches in the offensive zone because he thinks he's Paul Coffey, and is strong in front of Samsonov/Murray protecting the crease, I'm sure he'll find success beside Rielly. Sick of watching Holl get his lunch money taken in front of our net.

Exactly and you know Giordano and Liljegren played really well together so overall it could be an improvement even though Schenn isn’t a clear upgrade on Holl.

I was talking with KB the past few days.

We really need to enjoy this Leafs team bc I don't think we will ever see a Leafs team as talented as this one.

I'd like to see how Schenn looks here before making that determination. Vancouver fans liked him. He was good enough to be the 6/7th dman on the championship Tbay team. Leads the league in hits, fights, leadership, knows his role.

I'm betting Holl and Schenn are both here come the playoffs and we swap them out depending on the matchup (Schenn against TB's physicality would make sense).

100% convinced Dubas reads this forum. This is some full on EA Sports GM mode vibes.

I like all the additions made btw, only concern would be a little too much movement in the locker room. And I still feel like there's one more incoming.

Gio-Schenn would be too slow, but If we were to try Morgan-Schenn and then Mccabe-Brodie as our shutdown pair, Gio-Lil would look really nice as a 3rd pairing.
