I’m really torn between Engvall or Kerfoot. Engvall brings a lot of physical attributes you want in a bottom six forward but Kerfoot brings the hustle and grind while seeming to be more involved in the core group here.

It basically comes down to who has performed better in the playoffs to date and I think Kerfoot wins there.

I mean, he brings those attributes, but he doesn’t use them at all. It’s window dressing. Feels to me like Kerfoot plays the style that Engvall won’t and that would take his game to the next level. It’s weird too, because Engvall showed a glimpse of it for a couple months late last season and then just gone. I think that’s part of what frustrates me about him. He’s certainly capable of playing that way, he just chooses to not compete/bring any intensity to his play

I think we have to accept Engvall will move teams and then ... Tage who?

Maybe his wake-up call?

Both need to be moved for Acciari/Lafferty types to level the playing field. My hope is Crouse + Fischer but I'm fine with any comparables.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Tavares-OReilly-Nylander
---------- Kampf-Jarnkrok
---------- Acciari-Lafferty

Compare that to zero weak spots on Bruins or Lightning:

Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk
Zacha-Kreji-Pastrnak
Foligno-Coyle-Frederic
Greer-Nosek-Hathaway

Killorn-Point-Kucherov
Hagel-Cirelli-Stamkos
Colton-Paul-Jeannot
Maroon-Bellemare-Perry

Holland is a terrible GM. Held onto Puljujarvi for way too long only to trade him 2 years later for absolutely nothing.

Re: the Kerfoot errors.

The breakaway I won't blame him. Would have been nice. But breakaways seem like a 50/50 proposition. Reminds me of 2013 when Frattin missed which would have made it 5-1. A lot blamed him for that. How about win some defensive zone draws and get the puck out? You win that game if you do that.

The penalty in Game 6 was more annoying, as was his giveaway to make it 1-0 Tampa. And while the Leafs won this game, they were up 3-0 in Game 3 working to kill a penalty. Kerfoot has the puck at the opposing blueline. Instead of just dumping it deep and going off for a change, he wants to make an offensive play. He kinda spins around and like turtles a bit to I guess protect the puck while he waits for another teammate to work their way over so he can dish it to them. Well someone comes from behind and knocks him off the puck and it eventually goes to Ross Colton who scores to make it 3-1. After that goal they were on their heals for the rest of the game.

It's plays like that where you are like, you went to Harvard. Make the smart play. You can't be doing that at an important time, similar to the Galchenyuk play.

That's a decent point but most teams won't care about it. The cap hit is what matters for teams that trade for these players.

I don't see any overly cheap teams that want a pending UFA that is paid peanuts in salary versus cap hit.

Also, Puljujarvi is a RFA which matters a lot.
Teams may not care, but salary remaining on a fringy player like JP it does affect the return as we saw. A retained Kerfoot brings back decent value because there is veryl little salary left, and the cap hit is $1.75 million

I mean.....a lot of talent below Kerfoot's level is being moved for assets.

Dubas briefly touched on the fact that they’ll still be active if it really improves our team but we’re also entering the territory where too much change could be bad as well. You don’t want to turn over half your roster at the trade deadline. We’re already bringing 4 players and potentially a 5th in Knies into the lineup with only 20 or so games left in the regular season.

I think we’ll see one more move in order to be cap compliant. One of Engvall or Kerfoot will be moved.

This was brought up on the Leaf Report podcast that just came out. It's easy from our end as armchair GMs to pencil in a bunch of new guys, but there comes to a point where in real life you may be disrupting too much.

Penguins clearing cap space, Kane still waiting to be moved to New York, Oilers potentially maybe thinking about trading for a big name defenceman (good or bad). If all these teams wait till Friday maybe TDL day won’t be a snoozefest.

There is always the 1-2 surprise trades that you don't see coming that make it such a cool day.

JT Miller/Brock Boeser to Pittsburgh for futures.
Kerfoot to Vancouver to replace JT/Boeser (can play either C or W). They can try him out before they commit via UFA. Kerfy goes back home.

Pittsburgh first waives Kapanen and now McGinn. Wonder what they’ll end up doing. I like McGinn, just not at a 2.75 million dollar cap hit…
