I think we will grab one of Ekholm or McDonaugh from Nashville
McDonagh would be a lot cheaper. He’d be a good Muzzin replacement and playoff add. Still playing well in Nashville. Three more years at $6.75MM. Tough to get Nashville to retain that much for that long. He was cheap for Nashville to acquire but costly with that retention. Sandin ++

Either one at 25% retained is doable. Prob Sandin, Kerfoot, and a pick or high prospect.

Would be very funny history if its happening

Tampa traded mcdonaugh for nothing last summer As a cap dump
- toronto acquiered mcdonaugh with a retention
- and toronto taking his revenge a year later and beating tampa with mcdonaugh playing a key role on it

Would be amaizing story

You guys talk about Ekholm, McDonagh, and Jeannot, when in reality we should be trying to grab Glass and Fabbro.

Not sure if Cody Glass and his 16 career goals is going to move the needle and Fabbro is having a down year offensively. Why would would we want them over two stalwart veteran defensemen who have been the finals/won cups?

That's what I want to see. McDonagh has 185 career playoff games and routinely goes deep.

Muzzin has 72 career playoff games. McDonagh is the real deal.

I've watched Fabbro since he was in the BCHL if we get him we'll be hella lucky

Nice deal for Nino.. he would have fit a lot of needs but then again his postseason resume kinda worries me
This was my thoughts exactly but I think we need the back end work though

Because McDonagh contract is awful, and he's had bad seasons 2 of the last 3 years and Ekholm will not only be insanely expensive to obtain is also past his prime and is signed to a very large contract for a very long time.

Glass on the other hand has had a breakout year on pace for 40 points in a middle-6 role on a low scoring team while having excellent defensive metrics his entire career and looks like he's going to have a massive breakout in a better situation. Fabbro on the other hand has struggled this season because McD has been an anchor, but he's still young, signed for almost nothing, and has the talent to be a fantastic top-4 for years to come

At 25% retained for McDonough, that's asking Nashville to pay ~ $5.2Min salary over the rest of this season and three more.

At 25% retained for Ekholm, that's asking Nashville to pay ~$3.7M salary over the rest of this year and two more.

In either case, I think that amount of retention is going cost a fair bit, I would think.

That being said, assuming that Kerfoot would agree to go to Nashville, traiding him ($3.5M), Engvall ($2.25M), a and Sandin ($1.4) part of the deal would be more than enough to cover either without retention. Kerfoot has a modified NTC (a 10 team list submiited July 1).

Yeah but Fabbro and Glass are housekeeping moves, not fatten the roster for a playoff run vs other Eastern titans moves.

I'd only take McDonagh with 50% retention BTW. Nashville got him for negative value so if we could give them a modest hockey asset to pay for the cap retention that is what I would be looking for.

And if leafs have to give sandin for it, lets give sandin

For me a line a line up with mcdonaugh in and sandin out is much more better

I mean, their top-6 F costs the same as our top-4 F so 6 good players are better and worth more than 4 elite players who are better than every single one of their 6. It's called simple math, we as stupid Leaf fans don't get it.
I’ve never understood why people said things like that. Our top guys get paid alot… because they are really good lol

I'm not sure it would be Sandin. Nashville got him for pure trash with Tampa picking up no salary... so if we got McDonagh + 50% retention, I'd pay a modest hockey price for him and have him in the $3 million range as a veteran warhorse. He's still chewing up 20+ minutes in his sleep and oozes playoff pedigree.
