I wanted Fabbro like 2 years ago. Didn't he play as Rielly partner at the World Championships a few years ago and looked pretty good together? Think that's what made me want him back then.
A top 3 dman who can play over 22 min/ game and shutdown best opposite line at low salary for a 3 season... what do you think it will cost?Retention will increase his value. But this is the McDonaugh of 2023, not 2018. He's not going to cost a Chychrun type return. He was given away for free this summer
Not to mention Tampa had 31 potential trade partners when they dumped him. It's telling that only one team was willing to take him on at full price.
This is just a breathtakingly bad take.If you want a mcdonaugh at 50% you will drastically raise his value and it will not be a modest price because you will need to pay for retention...the reason why nashville had him for nothing is because tampa didn't want to retain some salary. Get a mcdonaugh caliber of D at 3,375 M will drastically raise his value because hes becoming 1 of best quality/price dman in the league... would probably cost Sandin ( or knies)+ a 1st pick ...

Wouldn’t mind Watson at all.Would love Austin Watson with Accuri on the 4th line the hurt on the opposition.
Don't know what it would take to get him , just a thought.

Just no to pretty much everything you have said here. Do you honestly even like the Leafs?

He'd be an upgrade on ZAR that is for sure. The only problem I would have is that by the time playoffs role around on paper ZAR is my 14th forward. If Watson is an extra come playoff time I wouldn't want to invest much more than a 5th for him.Would love Austin Watson with Accuri on the 4th line the hurt on the opposition.

Yep agreed. Sure his contract is meh but he’s rock solid if healthy. That's what I want to see. McDonagh has 185 career playoff games and routinely goes deep.
Muzzin has 72 career playoff games. McDonagh is the real deal.
Sandin is terrible on the right side. This is why I didn’t want an o rielly rental.
Ekholm and Jeannette would be a better fit imo with term.
Ekholm brodie
Reilly lilly
Gio sandin
Would be ideal
I certainly don't care. But I still think it wasn't a bright move.Who cares? It's one more season and a season likely that will be a little different for them in terms of retooling. I'd easily take a gamble on a 3M Kapanen for 1 season only. He's only 26-27 years old.
Grabner went from a 9 goal season to a 27 goal season a few years ago. I bring him up because Grabner had the same naysayers, and I think Kapanen compares a lot to him.
I keep seeing the name Jeannot here and I ask myself is he really available? The Preds have a solid cap structure and no big deals kicking in next year.
I know he had a great rookie campaign and this year has been a non-factor, but he’s an RFA making 800k with a 750k qualifier and arbitration rights. Realistically I think he can be kept for 2.5 or less.
Of course if you can get him get him - but what are you giving up here?
Outside of being a hit machine why do people want Jeannot? He's not particularly excelling in a d-zone heavy role with the Preds and he's never going to be a steady 20% shooter like he was last year.
Given the price the Preds would ask there are likely better candidates out there with a much lower acquisition cost.
32 thoughts notes from the 2nd intermission of HNIC:
- Toronto wants a defenseman, they are now "more committed" to looking at the market for a d-man. Handedness is not an issue due to Brodie.
- Teams feel there is a lot of defenseman on the market, will hopefully lessen the price and become a buyers market
- Kane will be gone, likely before Friday. It will more than likely be NYR
- Preds are open for business, only untouchables are Josi, Saros and Forsberg. Mattias Ekholm is available!
- Teams calling for Jeannot, including Dallas. Price for him is high
- Meier talks heating up, NJ/CAR/VGK are interested. As of now, seems like Carolina is unlikely. Meier will likely not come with an extension
- JVR will be dealt
