I wanted Fabbro like 2 years ago. Didn't he play as Rielly partner at the World Championships a few years ago and looked pretty good together? Think that's what made me want him back then.

Retention will increase his value. But this is the McDonaugh of 2023, not 2018. He's not going to cost a Chychrun type return. He was given away for free this summer
A top 3 dman who can play over 22 min/ game and shutdown best opposite line at low salary for a 3 season... what do you think it will cost?

Ps chychrun we are closer of kind of offensive dman like klinberg than a shutdown d lime mcdonaugh. We just didn't talk about the same kind of dman

He was giving away because he was coming with a 6.75M not with a 3.375.

Trade tavares at 11M, you will get pratically nothing for it. Trade tavares at 5.5M, the price will be pretty high...

Not to mention Tampa had 31 potential trade partners when they dumped him. It's telling that only one team was willing to take him on at full price.

No? He has a full NTC. Columbus tried to get him. He agreed to the trade on the threat of waivers knowing CBJ would take hk

If you want a mcdonaugh at 50% you will drastically raise his value and it will not be a modest price because you will need to pay for retention...the reason why nashville had him for nothing is because tampa didn't want to retain some salary. Get a mcdonaugh caliber of D at 3,375 M will drastically raise his value because hes becoming 1 of best quality/price dman in the league... would probably cost Sandin ( or knies)+ a 1st pick ...
This is just a breathtakingly bad take.

Just no to pretty much everything you have said here. Do you honestly even like the Leafs?

Would love Austin Watson with Accuri on the 4th line the hurt on the opposition.

Don't know what it would take to get him , just a thought.

Im just not stupid

Tampa was in trouble with salary cap issues and had to move to clear money... they made a choice with mcdonaugh, with mcdonaugh nobtrade clause, tamap didnt have an option to trade him to maybe to the only team with enough cap space and with who mcdonaugh was agree to be traded

Not because im a leaf fan than im thinking than leafs prospect are better than every prospect in the other team because they are leafs prospect or thinking leafs player are better or worst than the same kind of player anywhere else because they are playing in Toronto..

Or being a hypocritical person who claim before ror deal, the price leafs paying was way too much because ror was not good anymore, but when leafs made the deal oh wow leafs made a great deal and 3 game later, oh wow ror is a beast who won the conne smythe.

He'd be an upgrade on ZAR that is for sure. The only problem I would have is that by the time playoffs role around on paper ZAR is my 14th forward. If Watson is an extra come playoff time I wouldn't want to invest much more than a 5th for him.

Pretty easy to suggest some suggestions give no credit to Leafs players, and so easy to see where loyalties lie.

Leafs are what 5th. best team in the league.

Habs on the other hand are in a hole and their fans need some way/place to rant.

Lafferty sat as well today for trade related purposes. I can't remember if we have been connected to him or not or if that was just trade proposals on here.

That's what I want to see. McDonagh has 185 career playoff games and routinely goes deep.

Muzzin has 72 career playoff games. McDonagh is the real deal.
Yep agreed. Sure his contract is meh but he’s rock solid if healthy.

One of ekholm or Mcdonagh bumps everyone down and they instantly play tough matchups instead of rielly or holl. Holl on the third pair, rielly on pair 2 is solid.

I still want to keep sandin and wouldn’t trade him for Mcdonagh, I would for ekholm though.

What does Robertson , kerfoot and a 2024 first get us?

If Robertson has to be included in a deal this TDL or this summer to upgrade the team I would be ok. Robertson is giving the Nate Pearson vibes. Good talent but can't stay healthy.

This is why I didn’t want an o rielly rental.

Ekholm and Jeannette would be a better fit imo with term.

Ekholm brodie
Reilly lilly
Gio sandin

Would be ideal

Who cares? It's one more season and a season likely that will be a little different for them in terms of retooling. I'd easily take a gamble on a 3M Kapanen for 1 season only. He's only 26-27 years old.

Grabner went from a 9 goal season to a 27 goal season a few years ago. I bring him up because Grabner had the same naysayers, and I think Kapanen compares a lot to him.
I certainly don't care. But I still think it wasn't a bright move.

I wouldn't gamble on Kapanen for vending machine change.

I keep seeing the name Jeannot here and I ask myself is he really available? The Preds have a solid cap structure and no big deals kicking in next year.

I know he had a great rookie campaign and this year has been a non-factor, but he’s an RFA making 800k with a 750k qualifier and arbitration rights. Realistically I think he can be kept for 2.5 or less.

Of course if you can get him get him - but what are you giving up here?

To Toronto-
Ekholm 50% retained
Jeannot

To Nashville-
Sandin
Robertson
Kerfoot
Voit
2024 1st Round Pick
2025 2nd Round Pick

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Jeannot-Tavares-Marner
Knies-O'Reilly-Jarnkrok
AstonReese-Kampf-Accari

Ekholm-Liljegren
Rielly-Brodie
Giordano-Schenn
Timmons

Engvall and Holl traded for picks

All speculation, but FWIW it was reported this evening that NSH is open for business and the only untouchables are Josi, Saros, and Forsberg.

Outside of being a hit machine why do people want Jeannot? He's not particularly excelling in a d-zone heavy role with the Preds and he's never going to be a steady 20% shooter like he was last year.

Given the price the Preds would ask there are likely better candidates out there with a much lower acquisition cost.

Such as?

Notes from 32 thoughts during the 2nd intermission of HNIC:

- Toronto wants a defenseman, they are now "more committed" to looking at the market for a d-man. Handedness is not an issue due to Brodie.
- Teams feel there is a lot of defenseman on the market, will hopefully lessen the price and become a buyers market
- Kane will be gone, likely before Friday. It will more than likely be NYR
- Preds are open for business, only untouchables are Josi, Saros and Forsberg. Mattias Ekholm is available!
- Teams calling for Jeannot, including Dallas. Price for him is high
- Meier talks heating up, NJ/CAR/VGK are interested. As of now, seems like Carolina is unlikely. Meier will likely not come with an extension
- JVR will be dealt

Ekholm needs to be the guy imo. Try to get 1-3m retention.

Guess the Leafs aren’t going after any more big name forwards

Thanks for the summary. Appreciate the work you put in

Ekholm would be the most ideal target for me
Price will be high but if other teams are willing to pay then we may have to as well
Boston just got tougher to play against. We all know Tampa will do something to get better
