be kind of a story telling pick up, Mac D traded to Nashville, comes to Toronto and helps beat the lightning in the first roundMacDonagh will be the emphatic mic drop add.

And if leafs have to give sandin for it, lets give sandin
For me a line a line up with mcdonaugh in and sandin out is much more better
MacDonagh will be the emphatic mic drop add.
What, has this place gone insane?
He's a cap dump and you want to give up a good young cost controlled defenseman for him?
All he's got going for him is name recognition and his contract sucks
There's a reason Tampa couldn't wait to get the **** away from him
With retention for $4-5 million, he’d be a real play off difference maker. Great potential shut down line with Brodie. Could move him in the off-season at that contract if necessary.Don’t even want him with that contract.
I'm not sure it would be Sandin. Nashville got him for pure trash with Tampa picking up no salary... so if we got McDonagh + 50% retention, I'd pay a modest hockey price for him and have him in the $3 million range as a veteran warhorse. He's still chewing up 20+ minutes in his sleep and oozes playoff pedigree.
If you want a mcdonaugh at 50% you will drastically raise his value and it will not be a modest price because you will need to pay for retention...the reason why nashville had him for nothing is because tampa didn't want to retain some salary. Get a mcdonaugh caliber of D at 3,375 M will drastically raise his value because hes becoming 1 of best quality/price dman in the league... would probably cost Sandin ( or knies)+ a 1st pick ...What, has this place gone insane?

Tampa had to move on from him because of the cap, not due to a serious drop off in play.

What are you talking about?
He's had a serious drop off in play?
Tampa aren't idiots, they got the best years out of him then sold him so they wouldn't have to live with the inevitable dropoff
Looks Pretty bloody smart right about now
They got rid of him because they saw him declining before there eyesAre you aware of Tampa's cap situation? They had to walk away from Palat and dump McDonagh just to get to the cap. They went to Game 6 of the finals with McDonagh playing massive minutes in the finals.
If you asking a mcdonaugh at 50% yesI doubt it will cost that much. Every time a team gets involved with the Leafs it's Knies +++ but no NHL deal comes close to that kind of value going out the door.
Even if true, how's Tampa's cap situation vastly different to the Leafs? Neither team wants to be stuck with a declining asset with a 6.75 million dollar cap hit. Why do the Leafs pay for the privilege of adding him?Are you aware of Tampa's cap situation? They had to walk away from Palat and dump McDonagh just to get to the cap. 3rd pair/secondary defensive matchups in Schenn vs Holl being on the primary shutdown pair and playing big minutes most of the year. QOC is a big factor here. Wouldn't be surprised to see an upswing in Holls offense playing with Sandin for a bit.Was kind of surprised to see Luke Schenn almost having double the points Justin Holl has from the blueline and he's very close to having a career year offensively.
Holl's on a top 5 team in the league while Schenn is on the porous Canucks.

Just curious, but what does us playing the Nucks next Saturday have to do with a Schenn deal? Why would that make it more likely he’s being traded to the Leafs?Considering the TDL is next Friday and Leafs playing Nucks on Sat. I think Schenn is a Leafs. Just hope he is not the only new Dman addition.

Of Holl's 10 assists, only 1 is a primary assist. Was kind of surprised to see Luke Schenn almost having double the points Justin Holl has from the blueline and he's very close to having a career year offensively.

Will never happen due to league structureReally want owners join together and a loan player agreement like Euro football between teams. It will bring more entertainment to the league.
With sergechev and cernak raise,Tampa had no choice to choose between sergachev, cernak, hedman and mcdonaugh... they didn't trade him because he was not good enough but because sergacehv and hedman was more important long term for the team
You can get rid of a player for more than one reason, they had a cap crunch and he's dropped off so he's the obvious guy to move
If those was 3 years ago they wouldn't have traded him for cap reasons, he was still really good so he would have stayed and somebody else would have gone instead
Getting rid of somebody so there somebody else's problem is good business, Tampa does it as well as anybody
