Any upgrade would have to be quite affordable in turn because Timmins being locked in for 1.1 M per for two seasons is great value for Toronto if he can maintain a regular role.
Timmins has more value to the Leafs as soon as next year than any value he would bring in a trade.

Right off the hop, he makes Holl expendable as a UFA this summer, saving us from paying $4-5 million Holl will get for a player that clearly shouldn’t be playing in our current defence any higher than 3RHD.

Timmins can be a very good piece for us for the next few years, which makes him more valuable to us.

In an alternate reality Jensen is already a Leaf but Mike Babcock discouraged the idea.

Gardiner and Dermott both suffered significant injuries shortly after and the D-Corps really struggled after the deadline passed and it was too late to add. Had Babcock set aside his ego maybe the Leafs would’ve fared better in the regular season and playoffs.

What’s his top 2 Mike Babcock stories?

I like the idea of cap certainty here (the blueline) as well because the forward group potentially stands to look quite different due to the amount of upcoming UFAs within it.

Very much agreed. My comment was simply to say I see value in Timmins as a trade chip. I view our remaining assets:
Knies
Sandin
1st
Timmins
Niemela
and then...
Timmins over Niemela because CT has played in the NHL, below the 1st because of age and injuries.

Matthews-Kane
Tavares-marner
O'Rielly-Nylander

Wingers?
Bunting
Jarnkrok
Knies

That’s what I used to do with those young and aggressive colleagues back in the days, lol. But after their deep dive research, they usually realize someone at the firm already proposed their ideas and were shut down due to various reasons from budget to people. And they will either let it go or work at it and let me see their reports, which I will read it and tell them it is too early for that change.

It's all about shareholders anyway, so when someone tells you to take a deep dive go to the lake for a swim, and a couple beers in moderation.

Florida lost again. They're the new team to watch as they should be clearly selling like the Capitals. They falling further and further away from a playoff spot, with multiple teams either ahead or between them

Gudas + Bennett or just individualy I can see being targets

Wonder if they’ll keep Montour?

Jack Han seems like a guy you want to send off on a deep dive given his recent breakdown of Huberdeau and Quebec trained players having issues pointing their feet in sub optimal ways. Where was this insight last year?

Did he really do that?
People just always want to find something out of nothing.

Looking at the leaf defense then and looking at it in hindsight, it seems that Babs would've made the right decision? Dermott sucks.

They are forgetting to note that Dubas traded Par Lindholm for Nik Petan; had the infamous high five after the Petan goal.

This deal rumored to piss off Babs and leafs lost a reliable defensive forward on their fourth line who played penalty kill too.

I'm a dubas fan overall, but trading Lindholm for Petan made no sense for a playoff team even more so in hindsight.

And people actually bought what he is writing.

How did he ever had a job with MLSE or any professional sports organizations.

Watching the D struggle with minnesotas big players in the crease really makes me want a big D that can clear the front of the net.
I don’t think a lot of teams can match Wilds size as a team. Maybe Rangers, Vegas and Bruins.

I'm interested to see what happens with Gavirkov because now that Boston has Orlov and Hathaway I don't know that a 1st round pick is out there for him.

If the Price is dropping I think we need to jump in.

This team does need some toughness and physical presence on defense.

Hell, if there was a way to do, I'd try to add Gavirkov and Nyquivst because as I've said before baring an absolute collapse by Boston you are going to play Tampa you might want 3 scoring lines.

And even if Boston went cold and went say 2-8 skid in their next 10 and Toronto got hot and went 9-1 or even 10-0 and caught them You'd still be playing Boston or Tampa in round 2, so you might want 3 scoring lines regardless.

Something like Timmins and one of Minten/Nimela for Jensen could make sense. If some desperate team like Edmonton wants to come in and give a 1st + 3rd for him, they can have him imo. But Jensen would be a great add if the price is reasonable and resigning him with Holl of the books is possible so I don't mind giving up a future.

A big blueline has been a big part of TB's success. The only two dmen they have under 6'2 are both 215lbs+.

Hedman - 6'7
Foote - 6'5
Cernak - 6'4
Bogosian - 6'2
Perbix - 6'2
Sergachev - 6'1 (217lbs)
Cole - 6'1 (225lbs)

Colorado had a big blueline last year as well. Montreal had a big blueline when they went on an unexpected Cup run. Leafs have gone out in the first round for what, 6 years now?

And during that time, the Leafs never put together a big strong blueline, and also during that time, we've seen repeated success from teams with big bluelines. It can't be repeated enough, but what makes a player and a team successful in the regular season doesn't necessarily translate to the NHL playoffs. Teams play WAY more physical, and refs legitimately call the game differently. It happens every year, and has for decades.

Bottom line is. Mike Babcock was absolutely right about way more than he was wrong.

He got way into line matching and didn’t play Matty enough in game 7.

But his reads on Hyman. Dermott. Sparks. Matthews/ nylander combo did turn out to be correct

Regardless of his personality flaws

Compared to the D used in the playoffs last year, Muzzin and Lyub out, Sandy and Lily in. Are we better and can this group compete with the Bruins for 7 straight games ? We will see if they get put to the test.

Kasperi Kapanen is on waivers. They're acting like he'll be picked up for sure but he's making $3.2M for another year and considered a big disappointment in Pittsburgh. I still like him for his speed and penalty killing.

I never would've guessed that both Kapanen and Johnsson would be placed on waivers by their new teams. Maybe Johnsson because he really did fall off after his career year.

Better target for a return to Toronto in the summer of 2023 might be Connor Brown on a 1 year $1.1M deal.

Colorado's 7 D who played in the playoffs in the cup run. Fun fact: 4 of the 7 D were 191 lbs or less.
