Wow Kapanen is going to be waivers shortly.

Leafs did great to sell high on his value.

Leafs could claim him and help make moving Kerfoot a bit easier. Kap's speed and PK ability would still be useful in the bottom 6.

We did well to sell high on him for sure... I don't know how well he plays in our system though... he's a ton of speed, ton of effort guy, with low IQ, and low shooting percentage.

I don't think we should have interest at him as a waiver claim, but at 50%, there is a conversation to be had. He isn't worth his $3.2 mil cap hit.

There isn't much difference between their cap hits, and Kerfoot does almost everything better that Kapanen... except for the speed skating bit.

Kapanen certainly doesn't seem to fit the mold of the typical player found on the waiver wire. Any team with the available space might be tempted to put in a claim. While he should be an easier sell with retention, I can understand why PIT might not want to go there. I wouldn't expect a reunion here though.

I still think McCabe + Lafferty is Dubas's target. With Kerfoot involved
Not really sure where Lafferty would fit with Acciari and O’Reilly in the picture.

Aston Reese - Kampf - Acciari

Seems like a solid 4th line. Lafferty might be a slight upgrade on Aston Reese but it seems like the team really likes him. Plus he’s actually looked good playing with Acciari.

He also moved out a player the organization had grown tired of, both on the ice and off. Some teams that were initially interested in Kapanen decided against the deal after digging a little deeper into some of that. But the Leafs still had plenty of suitors for him much of the year, given his package of size and speed. That interest was enough that the futures bundle became what it did.

So, zero chance we'd bring him back.

Washington has their own 1st and Bostons, they could definitely use both picks to acquire Chychrun. Would be a great addition for them.

One of the most jarring examples of "sell high" we've seen.

This does seem a bit extreme though from the Pens. I wonder if it has a bit to do with odd ice/attitude stuff from the player

Wasn’t there attitude issues even here in Toronto with Kapanen? Someone that just didn’t take the game seriously and just really enjoyed the fame outside the rink?

I think so - believed there was an incident of him missing practice (though may be misremembering)

Rutta is coming off LTIR, and they need to clear cap space. Of their under performing contracts, he is the most likely to be claimed.

Yes, there was off ice stuff, doubt it's that this time. From the Athletic...

Living his best life partying with Models. Hockey paid for it but was also secondary.
