4. Toronto Maple Leafs: GM Kyle Dubas added Ryan O’Reilly and Noel Acciari without removing anyone from his roster, and made it clear he’ll see how things develop before deciding to do anything else. The Leafs tried to sign Acciari last summer, but ran out of room after inking Calle Jarnkrok. Dubas added that Matt Murray is expected to be back next week, and has indicated he won’t trade for another goalie unless the acquisition cost plus the return is appreciably better than what he’s already got in-house.

Defence? Toronto isn’t left with much draft capital, so it’s either someone you can get for a late-round pick or a current defender goes in return. Radko Gudas and Scott Mayfield are two I’ve thought about, but their teams are in the race. Luke Schenn being held out indicates he’s priced out of their range. Generally though, teams believe there is a surplus of rental defence options and are betting costs soften.
Gotta keep the largest fanbase in hockey tuned in for deadline day.

I really hope I'm wrong though

You managed to make us significantly worse and badly overpay. Good work out there, keep it up.
I maybe over-paid but that is how you target needs.

I feel the added need for sandpaper escpecially come looking to beat Tampa and then possibly Boston/Carolina for a deepper playoff run than you imagine is in order.

He didn’t directly refute that rumour either. He said that he hasn’t heard Toronto has expressed interest and that you shouldn’t believe all the rumours you hear.
People blew that up into something else
In fact it was intentionally misconstrued by a reporter, it seems like

Holl and Kerfoot need to go for upgrades. They have that playoff failure stench. Don’t trust either in a do or die scenario.

You could make that argument about a lot of guys on this team

Those guys aren't the ones who decide if we win series or not, that falls on the shoulders of our big boys and goaltenders

We go as far as our core and goaltending takes us

psssst,..Let's not forget how 3rd lines become real important come playoff runs ;)

but,...that nowadays may sound old school, and maybe since the game changes/changed a bit/ the 4th line also plays the integrel key.

Yes the big boys have to out score whatever problems a team has but, in the playoffs, The best "team wins" 4 lines right down to hot goaltending ( as you knew)

I wouldn't even mind Parayko if the price is cheaper then the other options because of the contract. Re-sign O'Reilly for 4.5 x 5. Sign Acciari 1.4 x 2. Bunting 3.6 x 6.

If Kane comes to Toronto we are set.

If Kane goes to Bos/TB…… we are toast.

Let’s get him on our team and keep Stanley in Toronto.

McCabe and domi would round out this team nicely
Kerfoot, holl can all go for asset to trade and if u can convince Kane to come with domi even better lol

a sandin for tanev would also work out nicely for me!!!

Rielly brodie
McCabe tanev
Gio lilly
Tanev’s been horrific this year.

I was all on the Tanev bandwagon the last few years, but he’s a liability this year

Would Love Garnett Hathaway. Imagine a 4th line of Knies - Acciari - Hathaway

Complete opposite of Kase - Blackwell - Spezza

Hathaway is a legitimate possibility.

I know some cap fans think someone like Joey Anderson (if he clears) or a fringe nhl player like him and a 3rd would be doable.

Much better option that Jeanott because the impacts are the same, but people aren’t insane with Hathaway’s value like they are Jeanott’s because of a heater he had last year lmao

If you hate players like Engvall and Holl, you're gonna despise Parayko.

His contract is way too bloated to even consider taking him on anyway.

Could be but personally I don't think he would care. He wouldn't pass up on a deal just to wait for an announcement, he could end up missing out entirely.

For the most part I agree.

Only thing is whether the medical staff could only project so far into the future as far as recovery goes.

They had announced end of February for the update, perhaps they couldn't say until now he won't be cleared until after the playoffs at the earliest?

This may involve an insurance company that pays Muzzin's salary.

If Holl is so great, why didn’t he start against Tampa Bay last year in the playoffs? Is he better this year? He has really good stretches of steady play, but when he starts to struggle, he’s unreal bad and who knows what you’re getting in a critical series. We might be stuck with him, but I doubt Dubas is 100% comfortable with the prospect.

It makes a lot of sense to me. A much better version of Clifford and Simmonds, and a similar player to ZAR but definitely stronger.

If the Leafs want to bolster up even more, don't think Hathaway would be hard to get and definitely won't be hard to re-sign.

Not sure if they can find a defensive upgrade that fits, so might as well just load up upfront even more.

He's had plenty of time to move him. IMO they really like him. Same with Kerfoot.

Apparently he’s regressed substantially to the point that some STL fans have said they’d take pretty much anything to get his contract off the books.

He’s really just fine - he just has to play bottom pairing minutes. He’s a great 5 or 6, not a top 4.

At his best, he was a 2nd pairing D, that needed a defensive partner to get the best out of him. He has since regressed, and Rielly is far from a defensive partner to help someone else. That's a disaster of a pairing. I don't think he's the right guy.

Didn't they play together a bit on the World Cup of Hockey? Or was it at a World Championship?

I seem to remember Parayko and Rielly played together, and played pretty well.

But - having said that - to me it seems if they were going to explore this route, they would have expanded the otiginal ROR/Acciari deal.
