If Holl was on a different team he'd be the clear best defenseman on the market besides Chychrun. I swear if his name was Jim Smith and he played for Columbus teams would be lining up to pay multiple big assets and even the analytic guys would be pissed to not get him.

He's by no means perfect, and we'll almost for sure have to let him walk at the end of the year, but trading a top-4 guy who's numbers are consistently great with any partner in a shutdown role to maybe upgrade the bottom-6 would likely be an atrocious use of assets and cap space.

Why would Teams line up more if he played in Columbus than if he played here? I imagine any interested team would scout him the same in either city.

I can't see us trading Holl, there's no defenseman out there that provides even close to similar impact with the same cap hit.

Kerfoot I can't see being moved even though he's a bit redundant. They clearly love him, and he's relatively effective anywhere in the lineup (obviously more effective further down). It just feels like a guy that wouldn't make sense to move unless a playoff team wanted to do a contract swap for better fits with similar cap hits? Puljujarvi? Kubalik? Niederreiter? Kapanen? Johnsson?

Imo Kerfoot is worse the further down the lineup he goes, his main value is extending offensive zone time to let his skilled line mates go to work for longer stretches, he doesn’t have enough finish to do much other than kill time against an offensive unit if he’s playing with bottom-6ers that also lack finish.

If O’Rielly finds a home on 1LW or splitting C/LW with Tavares I’d rather move Kerfoot for a bigger bottom 6 wing and run Kampf/Acciari as your bottom 6 Cs.

I think that extra cap room is more just in case a bargain or two shows up at TDL or use it to help Western teams to retain salaries in order to get a mid round picks or two.

Hoglander is pretty much a stronger version of Robertson. He would be great on the bottom six for the Leafs.

I actually think he might be back bc from post games clips, you see Muzzin dressed in training gears in the background instead of suits.

Not to mention his overall game in the past two years was falling off quite a bit to begin with and then you add all of these injuries on top of not playing for so long… Wouldn’t be good.

Just realized all the big trades or big signings with Dubas usaually involve Captains, JT, Folgino, Gio and ROR. Muzzin being the exception.

I think either / or will make a big improvement: if they package Kerfoot and a couple assets for a legit 2LW, they are scary. If they upgrade their D, they are also scary. Either way, it’s not like we aren’t already in a much better place now.

Not sure how much I love giving up 4x draft picks but you can’t argue with the fact that we upgraded without giving any prospect of value up, which is wonderful. We still have those assets to use if needed.
