I think either / or will make a big improvement: if they package Kerfoot and a couple assets for a legit 2LW, they are scary. If they upgrade their D, they are also scary. Either way, it’s not like we aren’t already in a much better place now.

Not sure how much I love giving up 4x draft picks but you can’t argue with the fact that we upgraded without giving any prospect of value up, which is wonderful. We still have those assets to use if needed.
As long as knies, Niemela, Minten and Holmberg aren't traded.

Use assets for Kerfoot and Engvall

I did too. Many indeed have #6D who I’d take Holl over. Not all.
I see almost none. But then again, I don't judge him by his egregious horrific turnover when A) it doesn't happen to lead to goals against often, but it's usually a doozy, +and B) he really has excellent defensive numbers.

Not like I think he can't be upgraded, but most of the names being speculated would be equal at best, or a downgrade.

I don’t like holl either but if he’s on your bottom pair I’m okay with it. It’s when he’s top 4 that he makes bone head errors even if the numbers show he’s ok?
But he makes his worst errors when he's pressured fast and physical and that's exactly what Tampa's bottom 6 is going to do to him.

Our forward group is absolutely stacked, I think the work there is done.

Focus now should be on adding more quality on the backend.

If you're trading Holl, you need to get back a Dman who can play 21 min/game. Re: FAs, we're not getting Dunn, Gost would not be what we're looking for, Dumba at 6M isn't likely to move the dial substantially, Klingberg has been far worse than Holl at 3.3x the price, Kulikov is a left shot, Hamonic out of Ottawa? At his cap hit (3M expiring this year), is he an upgrade you want to spend a pick/prospect for?

Two years out: Montour at 3.5M might be an option, but an expensive one I'd think. Tanev @4.5 or Durzi at 1.7? We could go back to Zaitsev at 4.4 ;)

I'm simply viewing FAs, over the next two years, and am not sure any of them meet our desires. I'm guessing if a D move is made, Sandin will be out and a left handed Dman will be coming back.

This has generally been my thought. Though Sandin IMO is worth more than a late 1st given age, caphit, pedigree, etc, and so worth more than a guy like Gavrikov is worth as a rental. Would Columbus give us Gavrikov + a pick/prospect for Sandin? I feel like they wouldn't, so I'm struggling to picture a realistic trade for a rental that involves Sandin.

Sandin as part of a package for Chychrun could make sense, but that seems like an unlikely trade (would also require us to move probably Kerfoots caphit out for example).

I think that extra cap room is more just in case a bargain or two shows up at TDL or use it to help Western teams to retain salaries in order to get a mid round picks or two.

Hoglander is pretty much a stronger version of Robertson. He would be great on the bottom six for the Leafs.
Scott Laughton 4 yrs @3 mil if we could pry him away from Philly .

Trade Kerfoot I think you could get a 2nd rd pk for him

1 (2024) + 2 ( from kerfoot trade ) or Holmberg ( rather not trade him )

Sandin should only be trade for another controllable dman.

Once the playoffs roll around, he will cost us again. He’s been a detriment every playoffs.

If I’m Dubas, there’s no way in hell I’m leaving my job in Holl’s hands.

If there is an area to improve on now, it would be on the blueline. Not against improving on either Sandin or Holl.

Getting rid of Holl would mean more ice for Liljegren. We’re better even before you know who the replacement is.

Were it CBJ who were initiating a discussion about Sandin/Gavrikov, I might agree with you. But, if the Leafs are inquiring just before the TDL, I have to imagine that Columbus is twisting hard on that deal.

Sandin, Engvall/Kerfoot + Knies for Chychrun, if they are to be believed about their ask, might be accepted? Difficult for me to go in that direction after we've acquired O'R and A. I think I'd prefer a less costly, burly LD, to bolster. The leftovers to hopefully upgrade 2LW, or Murray.

We're now a really good team. Our C depth compares to anyone's. We can run 3 lines that can produce, and Kamph's line can concentrate on D, while cycling away in the Ozone to wear down. Give me two 10% bumps at 2LW and LD, and pray for a 3rd bump in net, and I'll take that over Chychrun's 25% bump over Sandin. Just my take.

That comment speaks to your dislike of Holl, your appreciation of Liljegren, but still leaves a hole in our D. That hole has to be filled. Are you comfortable with Timmins or Benn? I'm not, at least if the hope is winning. For me that means we have to pay to get someone else. What price are you willing to pay and for whom?
